Just done day 1 & I want to give up already! I'm 17 stone & it was so painful, my chest, hips arrrrrr I feel like crying has anyone else very heavy done this? I want to do it so bad, bought new trainers, psyched myself up for days, thought at least it would start off easy-ish GrinSad
Also I thought for accountability I'd post the automatic updates on my fb page (Even though it'll annoy some people I'm sure!) but i can't work out how to link it and in true 'me' style I'm now thinking well i won't bother then Angry

Velma - well done for persevering. I had knee pain this last run but took it really easy and made it through ok. Think it loosened up a bit as I ran. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience

FresherThanYou · 21/05/2015 09:28

Sounds like it's on the mend velma? Hope so
I know where you're come from tinwe about running groups. Someone needs to start a club for those of us with wobbly bits!
Just completed week 2 day 2 and could've done more Smile
Bit embarrassed about the title of this thread now but I'm GOING to keep updating for accountability

I'm nursing an injury too Sad. Did week two run 2 and it was horrid so I didn't go out last night. Next run is scheduled for friday but if I'm still hobbling Im thinking I will go for a swim instead. Mine is shin pain.

CalleighDoodle · 21/05/2015 20:30

timwee the group
Im with is a huge c25k group with all ages shapes and sizes so its great that way.

Tinwe · 21/05/2015 23:35

Calleigh - your group does sound interesting ??

Tinwe · 21/05/2015 23:37

Your hand - poor you. Sounds tough. Have you got good running shoes? Did you do many inclines?Keep up the gentle stretching and exercise

Tinwe · 21/05/2015 23:38

Good on you Fresher! Keep up the good work. I'm going to go onto week 3 early tomorrow after my app error so I'll let you know how it goes.

ChrissieLatham · 25/05/2015 00:47

Completed week 2 day 3 tonight but was so desperate for a poo halfway in that I couldn't run properly, nightmare! Know what Paula Radcliffe felt like now!!!

JessiePinkman · 25/05/2015 09:15

Grin chrissie what a nightmare were you far from home?! I haven't done day 3 yet, will do it tonight.

AmyElliotDunne · 25/05/2015 11:12

Fresher you're doing brilliantly! See how far you've come when even doing day 2 seemed like a challenge and here you are on week 2 and actually feeling good about it.

I'm humbled, as I haven't been much at all since I last posted due to pain in my ankle and heel. Have started a healthy eating plan though and hoping that losing some weight will make running easier and vice versa!

Tinwe · 25/05/2015 18:32

Amy - I need to do the same with a healthy eating plan, the weight isn't coming off as I'd hoped. I need to reign in the splurging! My knees ache after runs and I think that'd be improved with some weight off.

ChrissieLatham · 25/05/2015 20:06

Jessie - yes I was at the halfway point so about 1.5 miles away! Still, it kind of made me want to run faster just to get back home! Smile

Hi can I join you? you sound like my kind of people :) I gave up smoking in March, I am 14 Stone on the nose and started C25K the end of March, I am on week 6 day 3, I have had a few set backs, such as during week two my ankle swelled up like a water balloon, so I too two weeks out whilst it healed and it was the easter holidays anyway so I just made sure I kept it raised but walked 3-4 miles a day round various child friendly attractions.
I have struggled this last week as I had a horrible bug tues and wednesday, which meant I did not do my normal Wednesday run, thursday I was still not great, but I did it had to walk a couple of times, same happened yesterday, Dh pointed out that running after the illness and Eurovision where I might just have drunk rather more than was good for me, if I did have to walk a couple of times it really wasn't surprising :)
in other news I haven't lost a ib, or any inches, but...I am feeling amazing (when not ill) eating better mostly (might be guilty of a large fish and chips tonight) have got so much more energy and have started cycling again.

if I really get my arse into gear I will start swimming and riding again, but I think these might be my winter alternatives to running.

I have made the school run, the school run, I used to get to the school 1/2 hour before kick out time and park in a street away from the school so my boys could start to be a little independant getting to the car, but also to ensure I could park! we live away from the school but I realised I could use that 40-45 mins from leaving the house and sitting in the car, to run, I now find I am having to run out of my way, to make the timings right, :)

I have also found a route across fields which is only 1 1/2 miles to walk home, which is lovely this time of year, and the conversations we can have whilst walking are lovely.

I have had one day with the school run which was howling a gale, so I drove to an industrial estate 5 mins from the school and ran round there making sure my precious poppets did not get too wet Grin

sallysparrow157 · 26/05/2015 00:23

I started couch25k at about 17 stone, week 1 nearly killed me, about 18 months later I did the great north run - 13 miles in 2 hrs 40 which I thought not too bad for a fat lass! (About 3 1/2 stone less fat than when I started though!) Lost my running mojo a bit in the last few months - work and practicalities and health have got in the way a bit, getting back into it now having gained a fair bit of the weight I lost and having not been to the gym since January I can do 5k quite happily and feel so much better for it, actually planning my life around runs again and it's doing my mental health as much good as my physical health.

sallysparrow157 · 26/05/2015 00:40

I would definitely advise investing in good shoes though. good sports shops will do a free gait analysis for you and advise you on the style of shoe you want, there are online gait analysis tools too. i started with shitty old cheap trainers and the day after a run I pretty much limped, decent shoes made the world of difference

ChrissieLatham · 27/05/2015 20:08

Runners who have been doing this a while... Have you lost any weight doing this?
Have you toned up at all?
I feel more energetic now and am surprised at how far I can actually run compared to 3 weeks ago

EdithDickie · 27/05/2015 20:35

Yes, lost about 20 lbs in the last year since I started C25K. And definitely toned up, especially thighs and bum Smile

Keep going everyone!

VelmaD · 27/05/2015 22:05

How you doing fresher?

I've lost weight since running, but only since using myfitnesspal tbh to count calories. I'm about 4kg down, and a dress size down and a lot more toned.

Knee still a little twingey, but ran a 10k Sunday in 1hr 7 in the heat by the river (gorgeous) and then a 5k Monday in just under 28 mins which was a strava PB. Haven't been since, came down with a reoccurring virus (never rains) but heading out tomorrow evening hopefully. Can't decide between 5 and 10k so might do about 8!

ChrissieLatham · 29/05/2015 21:19

I was just wondering as a lot of people say you can't lose weight by doing running but if you're burning calories I would've thought you can?

ChrissieLatham · 04/06/2015 23:03

How's everyone doing? I'm on week 4 now and certainly noticing its harder doing 5 min running!

YourHandInMyHand · 08/06/2015 16:35

I haven't started back since I hurt my leg! I'm doing 5K pretty muddy on 4th July! Sad My leg felt better but then went for a long country walk with DS and DP yesterday and today my calves are killing me.

I need to get back to it but can't seem to find the motivation, I was doing so well before....

MeDented · 09/06/2015 22:00

Just started this last week but finding it really hard. Did W2R1 tonight and still only managed 3.96 km. how on earth am I supposed to do 5k?

EnchantedBunny · 10/06/2015 17:11

MeDented, I did W1R1 today and managed a tiny 1.82km, excluding warm up/cool down. To be doing almost 4k in W2 is amazing! You've still 7 weeks of the program and are already doing 80% of the distance!
