Just done day 1 & I want to give up already! I'm 17 stone & it was so painful, my chest, hips arrrrrr I feel like crying has anyone else very heavy done this? I want to do it so bad, bought new trainers, psyched myself up for days, thought at least it would start off easy-ish GrinSad
Also I thought for accountability I'd post the automatic updates on my fb page (Even though it'll annoy some people I'm sure!) but i can't work out how to link it and in true 'me' style I'm now thinking well i won't bother then Angry

Time of day makes a big difference to me as I struggle to run on empty, and when digesting which leaves very few convenient time slots around small children!

I second walking it out if that particular run really isn't working for you. I do it a lot still. Some days my body is just more effective than others.

My body takes a while to warm up, for some people it gets easier when the running blocks get longer as your body lossens up in the flow.

Running is always an effort, but the progress is in how much further / faster you go with the same effort.

I went out running again today, 3rd one since your first post. Probably about 4k in 30 mins and I did intermittent walk/run although not specifically with the C25k timings, just based on what I could manage.

It felt really hard work today, it does vary a lot from day to day for some reason.

I have to run before I eat or I'll vom but it also means I don't really fancy eating until lunchtime, which is quite an achievement for me I make up for it the rest of the day though

Well done all for keeping going.

Strava is good for tracking your walk or run too, gives pace and hills etc but also tracks your own PBs and if someone else has done a similar route tells you how they did

You are amazing to be making such great life changes . I am an overweight runner and it's been hard. I've been running for over a year. Can't get my eating under control so still overweight. I've done 5k 10k and half marathon races. I still walk a lot of every race and I've come to the conclusion I won't be able to run this kind of distance without losing weight. My speed won't increase until I shed the lbs either . I've tried so hard. Can I make a suggestion without you taking it badly? Please do a lower impact exercise until you are down to around 14.5stone . You are at risk of seriously injuring your shins, knees and feet if you run at 17 stone. Could you do some walking, swimming or cycling? I'm sorry to rain on your parade. You are amazing to make these changes. I felt great when I did. Well done.

Well done Mint, you're an inspiration. Can I ask, how do you keep going in the worse winter weather? I gave up (for many reasons) as the darker nights set in

Tinwe I went out Thursday evening and it was torrential. The first five mins were horrible, but I then stopped feeling the rain. I looked like a panda after leaving my make up on though! I would advise shorter runs in the wet at first though - my legs were so cold at the end I couldn't judge my pace. The puddle dodging and worrying about slippingon wet blossom weren't great for the knees either. But it was still a good run, and there's a real sense of achievement when you run whatever the weather!

I didn't lose any weight when I started running. In fact I put it on in the first two months.

But then I did the old fashioned calorie counting with mfp and it's coming off. It's making a difference to my shape too, but means I'm having to buy new gear now!

Hi Velma! Well done on completing your run under the circumstances ?? I've had a few in drizzle but I found it difficult running in proper rain as my watch and iPod etc got wet! Mostly it was the dark nights in Winter. We live in the countryside and it's pitch black when it goes dark. I tried to switch to the gym but found treadmill running really boring.

Having said that, yesterday I followed my husbands direction for a "flat, easy run" which would be out of the main tourist routes... I ended up being out an hour and a half as I got totally lost. I waded through three streams right over the top of my trainers, sunk in countless amounts of mud and scared about 1 million sheep. Not to mention three scary climbs over barbed wire where I thought I'd end up walking back in shame with ripped pants! I'm bitten to pieces as well from various assorted insects. It was impossible to run so I just wandered/hiked about until I found a road and then ran/walked back. My knees are so sore today!

Worst part is that I was out of GPS for a good part of it so it looks like I did LESS than the other day ?? plus the bit it did record shows me walking really close to the road several times but then wandering off in the wrong direction. My husband finds it hilarious ??

Velma - thanks for the reminder about watching your diet. I've been indulging since I started this again so the weight's not coming off- I need to focus! How far/long are you running now?

Well done Amy, you seem to be doing well in the 30mins. I wonder what your equivalent in C25k would be. I'd love to run/walk in my own time rather than according to an app but I wouldn't trust myself not to give up sooner than if I had a set target. Grin

Mint - well done on your running achievements! Especially if you are overweight as that makes it even tougher! You might be right regarding the low impact until under 14.5 stone but I know nothing helps shape me up like running and I'd be unlikely to lose it unless I did this (I'm not much over that weight either). I'm thinking of the longer term benefits of my weight loss on my knees. Need to focus on my diet now to speed things up a bit I suppose.

Mrs Mook - totally agree. Although it was hard going all that way yesterday, I actually found it easier running at the end because I'd warmed up so much!

Tinwe. Darker nights definitely make it harder mentally. I hired a treadmill this winter which helped a lot as I didn't need to leave my living room! I like the rain as it's natural cooling! I don't like soggy feet though but I just have to put up with that! I am still 13.5 stone so a long way to go.

Tinwe I've done one 10k now, mostly run 5-6k sometimes 7-8. Today did race for life and got a PB, said 27.22 when I crossed the line for the 5k. Mega chuffed.

And I recommend Karrimor women's light hiking socks for rain - they were ace even though I was soaked through beyond belief. I quite enjoyed the rain, just hurt my knee a bit puddle jumping and wish I'd taken my mascara off!!

Well done Fresher! Both on your run and weight loss! I completed run 1 week 2 yesterday and although I can't say I enjoyed it, it went fine. I prefer it to week 1 as there's less runs Grin Sadly I'm not losing any weight yet but then again I'm eating more "treating myself" for running and cos I've been stuck in all week with a poorly child.

Velma - I wish I'd kept up the running last time, I might've been like you with the runs. There's one locally here that's just finished and each year I plan to join it the following year

I'm resting from running this week. Pulled my knee a little running in the rain, and the fast 5k Sunday has aggravated it. Have it strapped up and limping a bit so resting it till Sunday. Going to hit the bike and cross trainer in the gym instead this week, and going to hopefully order a road bike on Saturday too ??

I also run with a huge group of c25k-ers. I need the motivation of the group or id give up!

I was getting a stitch when i first started week one just rhnning 60 secs but a few weeks
Before the end of the programme
I was runing 5k 3 times a week around the 33 minute mark. Stick with it. It really works!

Thanks tinwe. I did 8.5k on the exercise bike instead today, can jog on the spot with no pain or movement now and jump up and down with a tiny twinge, so aiming to get out on Sunday. Not sure what distance though.

Call - I think I'd hate running with a group. I'm normally sociable but I'm so conscious of my physique at the mo I'd be too embarrassed! I've thought of joining a park run later, though the nearest is quite a drive away and early on a Saturday morning! Grin
