suspect there are a few of us preparing for a spring marathon - any interest in chat about training schedules, black toe nails and so on?

I've had a pig of a year too, Deck, and i've definitely used running as a stress buster. i'm not sure about the physical health part, had hysterectomy in may last year, this might have been easier if i'd waited a year Grin Grin

Tired too! But always feel so much better once I've been out. The cold has gone and after 2 weeks of quite rubbish running, did a half this morning in 2.08. Went out too fast though and was dead by mile 11. Missed my PB by 40 seconds which was a little frustrating considering I'd pushed myself for nearly 2 hours before slowing down but hey ho. It's done and I'm feeling so much more positive for getting a good run back under my belt. Have a 20 next week, followed by 15, 10 and then the big one Shock

DeckSwabber · 22/03/2015 19:42

Well done, isittheweekendyet. I was at a water station for a local half this morning. Mostly picking up the paper cups before they blew into the river.

Then did my second 20 in the afternoon. Utterly exhausted and cold at the end. Early night for me! Ans I'm taking it easy this week.

isittheweekendyet · 30/03/2015 20:12

Very quiet on here! Hope everyone is well. Did another 20 yesterday. Tough is not the word. Super hilly and the most atrocious weather. The worst run I've ever done. Treated myself to a massage at the finish and they must have worked wonders as have not a single ache today. Going to get a few more of those done before race day. 3 weeks to go so am officially tapering! Smile

DeckSwabber · 02/04/2015 21:45

Getting ready for the big day next weekend (gulp!).

I had a few days rest after my 20, now tapering down. 7 miles tonight.

I have done 2 x 20 milers and they were exhausting. Am relying on the crowd to keep me going!

isittheweekendyet · 04/04/2015 19:57

Good luck Deck!!

2 weeks to go here. Have done 2x20 miles also, one 'easier' than the other. Also hoping for some serious atmosphere to keep me going!!

Going to do 13ish tomorrow, a few 10k's next week and have a 10 miler next Sun before the final countdown...

DeckSwabber · 04/04/2015 21:20

3 x 7 milers this week. Maybe one more on Monday then recovery and rest... can't believe we are nearly there...

isittheweekendyet · 05/04/2015 19:31

Struggled through 10 miles today. Found it unusually hard going which is a feeling I hope passes in the next 2 weeks!! Can't believe this time in 14 days it'll be all done Grin

DeckSwabber · 05/04/2015 22:41

Get to the start and then its just a few hours of keeping going...

DeckSwabber · 05/04/2015 22:47

I think it feels hard because we think it should be easy to run 10 miles or so at this stage. Its still a fair distance.

I keep worrying that I don't feel 'fit' enough. But I must be!

isittheweekendyet · 07/04/2015 17:19

Totally, Deck! Did 10 on Sunday and it was the tough. I must still have had the aches of the previous Sunday's tortuous 20 in my legs! Did a much easier 5k today just to keep the legs loose. I know I should be doing 7 milers during the week right now but as long as I keep moving and covering some distance then I'll be happy. Have been watching some YouTube videos of the Manchester Marathon today to keep me motivated and excited, as unjust feeling dread about it right now. But we've done 20 miles - for me that's 3.5 hours of running. In one go. I'm sure I can drag myself over another 6.2 with the atmosphere on the day!!

lovealotbear · 09/04/2015 07:26

I have not posted during training but starting to feel very nervous as marathon only 3 days away!It is my first marathon and at the moment it feels like it will be my last. The winter training has been tough.

Good luck for those who are doing a Brighton on Sunday.

isittheweekendyet · 09/04/2015 16:41

Good luck lovealotbear! How has your training been going?

JennyOnTheBlocks · 09/04/2015 20:35

good luck lovealot

DeckSwabber · 09/04/2015 21:43

Nervous here, too. Dodgy knee means I've rested this week and now I feel flabby and stupid for even attempting this - keep reminding myself I have run miles and miles and miles over the winter and should be fine. I won't be winning any prizes though.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/04/2015 09:15

I've had to rest more than I'd planned too, but trying to stay positive. I've come such a long way (literally), I'm not going to let some nerves spoil it Grin

are you managing any cross training, Deck?

DeckSwabber · 10/04/2015 10:59

No - I haven't found time this year. I'm sure it would have helped.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/04/2015 11:02

i tried swimming, but that knackered my knee Hmm

who knew breast stroke needed stronger hips than mine?

have you got any sports massages planned? i've got one booked for a week on monday, but wondering if i could do with one before then, feeling all sorts of niggles that i'm sure are nervous tension really.

DeckSwabber · 10/04/2015 11:06

My run is on Sunday so no time.

I think most of the niggles are psychosomatic. I've got sore everything, even bits that have never hurt while running.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/04/2015 11:07

ah shit, can you get in for a gentle massage then? even as a pamper?

DeckSwabber · 10/04/2015 11:14

I'm happy with some stretching. It'll be fine.... ! [gulp]

JennyOnTheBlocks · 10/04/2015 11:18

you WILL be fine Grin

knackered, but fine Wink

got a foam roller, using that is helping me no end

DeckSwabber · 11/04/2015 10:00

Race pack collected!

Anyone else running Brighton tomorrow? What are you doing today?

isittheweekendyet · 11/04/2015 18:14

Oooooh exciting Deck! That'll be me this time next week Shock How are you feeling? What are your dinner and breakfast plans - for some reason I'm becoming fixated on food right now!!!

lovealotbear · 11/04/2015 20:26

Good luck Deck! I have spent the day packing my kit, pinning my number on and sorting out my food. It has been lovely every time I have been out I have been bumping into neighbours and friends who are asking how I am and about tomorrow. Feeling very nervous. I have done quite a few half marathons and never felt like this.

Do you have anyone coming to see you on the day? I am thinking seeing some familiar faces will pull me through after 20 miles.
