suspect there are a few of us preparing for a spring marathon - any interest in chat about training schedules, black toe nails and so on?

Well done! If you can do 20, the rest is conviction and will.

Remember that On The Day you don't have to be worried about being fit to train within 48 hours - you can put your feet up!

Today I was worried about my aches and niggles because it might scupper the next training run, but on the day I'll run through that.

runmummyrun123 · 09/03/2015 07:17

Hello again, how are your longer runs going DeckSwabber? I managed 12.5 at a mostly run/walk. I am ok with that, as that is how it is going to be I think. My problem seems to be blisters on the ball of my foot. Any ideas? I get to about 10 miles and it just gets really sore, do I just have to suck it up do you think? Well done on the 20 isittheweekend.

DeckSwabber · 09/03/2015 07:51

My right knee is sore now, while I'm barely noticing my left sore hip. But I can walk so its all good.

For blisters have you got twin-skinned socks to reduce rubbing? Also I find it helps to rotate shoes. I get pain in my left foot when I wear my blue pair!

runmummyrun123 · 09/03/2015 18:48

Ok, I have just bought very posh socks so will try my older shoes next time out. Sore knee can be linked to sore hip, lots of stretching? A man said to me yesterday, as I pulled up in a sweaty heap, "you aren't supposed to stop". I just smiled sweetly through gritted teeth. My feet were sore and I was't in the mood for happy jokes :)

DeckSwabber · 09/03/2015 19:35

I think my body has 'a pain' which moves around my legs and hips depending on its mood.

Someone mentioned 'referred pain' to me today.

Anyway, feeling ok today and looking forward to my next run...

LadyBlaBlah · 10/03/2015 17:49

Oh I did my 18 miler yesterday. I guess it was OK. I did it anyway. Just one more super long run then it's all plain sailing right? (just say yes)

I can't wait to do it now though - if I never see my training routes again it will be too soon.

I AM EATING LIKE A FAT PIG !

Can't stop. Food is on my mind and in my mouth constantly.

runmummyrun123 · 10/03/2015 18:08

Well done you! Good luck and keep eating.

isittheweekendyet · 10/03/2015 18:44

Well done ladyblahblah! After my 20 on Sun I hope it is all plain sailing now!! I am also eating like a pig - have put on 7lbs since starting the training in Jan ShockShockShock I thought the weight would fall off doing all this running?!??

LadyBlaBlah · 10/03/2015 20:01

I am so with you on the weight gain.

I have thighs of steel, totally flat chest and bulbous calves. Not a good look :-(

LadyBlaBlah · 10/03/2015 20:04

How many 20+ runs are you doing?

I'm only doing 1. Is that enough? My training plan only had 18 but I feel I need to do a 20

isittheweekendyet · 10/03/2015 21:17

Agreed! Same here...so hungry all the time and eating any carbs that aren't nailed down. Bit worried about the effect the extra weight is having on my knees but too scared to cut down at the moment! Actually looking forward to scaling down the miles post marathon and trim down a bit.

I'm due to do another 20 miles in 3 weeks, followed by a 13 and a 10 before race day. I think covering 20 is a big milestone mentally as although everyone says the last 6.2 are the toughest, knowing I've done 20 has given me a lot of confidence in myself

JennyOnTheBlocks · 12/03/2015 14:24

found you all again, this thread is much like my race style, i'll catch up eventually Grin

all raring to go in (yet another) pair of running shoes, but have done 40+ miles in these so far, and all seems well

all stoked up for Silverstone on sunday [cheerleader emoticon}

DeckSwabber · 13/03/2015 07:28

I've lost about 2lbs and have noticed my face and waist are leaner. Would love to lose my tum while I'm at it but am simply too hungry at the moment!

DeckSwabber · 15/03/2015 16:45

Staggered round the park today = 21 miles. Very slow but I got there in the end.

Knackered.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 15/03/2015 18:38

silverstone was great! did anyone else do it?

LadyBlaBlah · 15/03/2015 20:46

I was supposed to do it! But never quite made it. Just did my own half today and got another formal half race next Sunday.

After all my whinging about eating horses, I've actually lost weight too. Yay.

4 weeks today til the big one for me ??

DeckSwabber · 16/03/2015 08:03

How is everyone this morning? I'm not feeling too bad, to my surprise. Glad I got my new training shoes!

I did Silverstone a few years ago and got horrendous shin pain afterwards - very unforgiving terrain, but flat and at least there was no mud.

3 more training Sundays until Brighton...

JennyOnTheBlocks · 16/03/2015 08:40

my knees know i did 13.1 miles over hard ground yesterday, but other than that i feel really great!

spot of indoor cycling later as recovery, give the joints a rest i think

isittheweekendyet · 16/03/2015 16:43

Well done on the weekend running all. I intended to do 16 yesterday but am full of a cold and only managed 6.5. Felt hideous and like I was dragging a tyre behind me. Going to have a few days rest and get back out there Thurs and Fri before my half on Sunday. So frustrating to have a good 20 miles done last weekend and this weekend can't even get out. Grrrrrr Confused

DeckSwabber · 16/03/2015 16:51

If you are ill, you are ill. You'll feel full of beans again soon.

LadyBlaBlah · 16/03/2015 22:12

Saaaaaame isittheweekend.

Had running gear on for hours today and just didn't make it out.

Gonna do a 12 miler tomorrow. Got. To. Confused

DeckSwabber · 17/03/2015 22:27

How is it going, everyone? Planning another long one on Sunday so thinking about doing a couple of medium runs before then. Then it's time to taper off....

JennyOnTheBlocks · 18/03/2015 14:18

Tried intervals today - not the best session I've had but it's done now. Maybe trying 6/7 miles slowly tomorrow but might save the legs for 15 on Sunday. I'm still a week ahead on the training plan, so even if I repeat this week next week, I should still get a 18/20 miler in before the taper.

I am so very fucking tired though

DeckSwabber · 18/03/2015 21:54

Did 7 miles this morning. Beautiful day. Planning on another 7 on Friday.

I think the key for me is plenty of recovery time!

DeckSwabber · 18/03/2015 21:59

I'm tired, too. Don't know if its 'life' or the running and the high carb diet.

I've had a stressful year and was wondering this morning while I was running what my mental and physical health would be like if I wasn't doing this.
