Hi ILTMI, I'm a serial name-changer from the Apr11 thread (the one with the screamer).

Hope you're well

CruCru · 31/01/2015 14:18

NoShow, I am 100 kilos and wear a Boden size 20. You are doing a good job just getting out there. Soon you will feel awesome after every run.

I like to move it I also have the fear and haven't yet been bold enough to run in daylight, only under the cover of darkness Blush

I just did w4r1 and even though I was dreading it, I have to say that for the first time I really enjoyed it and came home feeling absolutely amaaaaazing!

Hooraaah!

Keep at it everyone! We can do thiiiis!

TheRealMaryMillington · 01/02/2015 20:07

I think the worry of being seen is more than compensated by the joy of being outside (especially on a gorgeous day like today) and how it feels underfoot. I could NOT be arsed to do this on a treadmill.

Friday didn't happen for me either. But I went out today, 1 mile fartlek with 4 kids 10 and under, then 3 of them bailed, and the last one did another mile and half with me. Lovely day for it and a nice little limber up for tomorrow - first proper run for 10 days.

Noshowofmojo · 01/02/2015 20:25

Thanks for everyone's kind comments. I went out today with a friend and did 2 min running / 1 min (sometimes slightly longer) walking x 8. It definitely was easier than Thursday evening but still very hard. I shall go out again on Tuesday but am having serious doubts about going for the group run on Thursday as I won't be able to make the leap to four minutes. But I'm very pleased that I've already improved from last Thursday :)

CruCru I look forward eagerly to feeling awesome after a run.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 02/02/2015 08:19

So that's week 2 finished for me!

And I've gone and entered the 5k Colour Run at the end of March Shock I decided that I really need to give myself something to keep going for, and at least the Colour run isn't all serious (a lot of people walk it). and full of proper-runner types. If I keep at it, I should finish the C25K about mid March which then gives me another couple of weeks to make sure I can do the 5k.

I can't back out now. It cost me $60. I am also going to try to get a little bit of sponsorship for a children's organisation I volunteer with to make my backing out even more tricky . . .

TheRealMaryMillington · 02/02/2015 11:04

Been out and done week 5 day one.

I have been just doing whatever/improvising up to now

So I think I need to get some structure to really know if I am improving anything at all and I thought I could remember this one. I got it a bit wrong in terms of planning as I ended up having done 3 x 5 minutes when I was a lot more than 5 mins walk from home, so I walked 3, ran 7 and then walked the last 5. But it made me think quite positively about getting through the next day which is 2 x 8 mins. Should be fine. Might do a bit more.

Any wisdom on music/earphones/big headphones - do either stay on/in when running?)- and also not for now but will be an issue in a few weeks - sunglasses?

Cru, I think I am going to look for a 10k training programme (not event I hasten to add) to do next, have you had a look around for a good one?

Admire your stake in the ground there Who would!

Hi, please can I join you all?

I'm going for my first run tonight. I have the app for my phone, but I have no idea where I will run around. Do I just leave my house and then go from there?

Also, I wish I had something to attach my phone to me. I need music!

cheapandcheerful · 02/02/2015 16:11

A million I started running about a month ago and bought some running leggings from primark which have a pocket in the bum for a phone/ipod.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 02/02/2015 16:38

Thanks cheap I've got some running/yoga pants from sports direct. But it's my birthday on Wednesday (day 2 run! Eek!) so dh is getting me a strap to hold my phone to my arm. He's a love.

I've just come back from my first run. I'm so slow, it's painful. The app tells me at this rate, it'll take me 55 mins to run the 5k. Which made me sad, but dh pointed out that you have to walk some and then run, so it might not be accurate.

Lagoonablue · 02/02/2015 17:01

I am back. Had 2 weeks off due to very sore knees and shins. So decided to start agin, from week 2. The run was fine, very cold though. Ran round a field which may be better for my knees. We shall see....

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/02/2015 17:03

Indomitable - you'll have give me a further clue about your identity! However, I'll always welcome an Aprilite with a big smile Grin How on Earth are they 4 in a couple of monthsShock

Thank you for the welcome to the thread w4r1 is tomorrow, wish me luck!

butterfliesinmytummy · 02/02/2015 17:07

Holy crap, just got back from week 5, run 3. Dear NHS, last time you asked 8 minutes of me. I struggled but ran all the way through to 8 whole minutes. Twice in one run. Now you want 20 minutes straight. I love this programme but 20 MINUTES WITHOUT WALKING ShockShockShock. I am slightly large and all the good intentions in the world cannot get me to run 20 minutes straight. I did 10 running, 5 walking, then another 10 running. I will get there but this was a shock to the system!!! Has anyone else found this?

I'm not keen on the NHS music or the speaking on the app so I have printed out the plan and enter the details of the C25K into an interval timer app that allows me to listen to my own music, podcast, radio etc.

I also joined WW today (yes, again!) because I'm thinking it will be easier to run if I weigh less and put less strain on my knees and have a 5k fun run coming up on 14th March - argh!

I'm really impressed by the number of posts and good feeling on this thread - can we officially call ourselves "runners" now?

Indomitable · 02/02/2015 18:14

butterflies - I'm using the Get Rubbing app and its been the same jump from 8 mins (I had to stop at 7) to 20. I specifically found a flatter place to do the 20 - it really helped! I did have to have a tiny walk around 18 mins but still.

It hasn't got any music, but will lower or stop your music for its announcements. It was about £2 which is a lot less than I've now spent on trainers/lights/jacket etc! It's working for me!

So I'm on to Week 6 tomorrow (six!). And back to sensible short runs (back on the hills) till next Sunday when it's back to 25mins+.

ILTMI I've had a series of NCs. I was one of the final few posting on our last April thread. And one of the few with only one DS.

Indomitable · 02/02/2015 18:15

Ha ha! Get Rubbing! Obviously I meant Get RUNNING (fat fingers)

Lagoonablue · 02/02/2015 19:22

The NHS app lets you play your own music though and just interrupts when it's time to change.

butterfliesinmytummy · 02/02/2015 19:29

But I like my radio app, podcasts and audio books, I can't listen to them through the NHS app. I use a free app called "Interval Timer", works well and there is a sounds (buzzer, chime etc) when it's time to change speed.

CruCru · 02/02/2015 20:30

TheRealMary - I'd love to do a 10k programme. Shall I have a dig around and see if I can find one?

addictedtosugar · 02/02/2015 21:09

bridge to 10k if often mentioned, but I've never tried it.
Still working my way through the NHS C25K+ pod casts (I actually quite enjoy their tacky music!), and have gone from the stamina one, up to about 8, and once 10km by just running into the next podcast. Not the most scientific!

CruCru · 02/02/2015 21:28

Ah, I've downloaded Suz's From 5k to 10k running podcasts. I have no idea whether they are good.

OP posts:
TheRealMaryMillington · 02/02/2015 21:51

Yes that would be great Cru, you are a bit ahead of me, but I'm certain I will be sticking with it. Love to hear how you get on

stilllearnin · 02/02/2015 22:30

Hi I am still resting (zzzz...) I liked the idea of the suzy podcasts but my ipod was too ancient for it. The advice from the general running thread was to increase your time/ distance (not worrying about speed at all) and stick at that for 2 weeks, before increasing again. I put two podcasts together to get up to 8k before christmas. But I will be back to the stamina podcasts again hopefully when I get the go ahead from the gp, as that's my favourite.

stilllearnin · 02/02/2015 22:31

Although I also like to run to the more or less podcast Smile

butterfliesinmytummy · 02/02/2015 23:22

Hold the phone.... There's a 5k bubble run in May..... Like mud, but rainbow foam every km. I'm tempted.....
