It's cold, it's dark, but that's not going to stop us pounding on through Jillian's many evil exercise programmes however much some of us may hate them. The goal is to be in shape and looking fabulous at this year's Christmas parties! Come on, you know you want to...

Nope - couldn't do anything tonight. Sore back from baby in a sling all day, while also chasing toddler or pushing him in a pram, and a crashing headache.

Showmethewonder A non-sleeping DS1 is the reason I fell off the exercise wagon in the first place. Sleep deprivation is unbelievable, plus I was back at work FT when he was eight months old and still waking upwards of six times a night. He'd finally started sleeping, and I had started doing Ri30, when I fell pg with DS2. He's no better a sleeper than his big brother ever was, but I'm slightly more hardened to it and knowing that 'this too shall pass' helps!

sometimesyouwin · 09/11/2014 22:34

Come join me on my sick bed ShowMe! I think we're leading parallel lives at the moment! It's beyond rubbish isn't it. I'm still pretty ropey and still on antibiotics. The mastitis in my left boob causes me pain just moving so no exercise for me. I've just started on a full multivitamin regime to try and boost me up a bit whilst I'm getting no sleep and breastfeeding. I'm sat here on second wake up of the night already Sad. I remember between 6 and 9 months was the peak of DS1s hideous sleep patterns so guessing I'm following the same pattern with DS2. Just hope he improves quicker than his brother who didn't sleep through till he was 3!
Sounds like you've been through the same Elphaba! It's rough going!
Here's to getting back on the exercise bandwagon! Hope you're feeling better soon ShowMe Thanks

ImogenQuy · 10/11/2014 07:09

30DS L3D5 done.

Thanks for everyone suffering. I also had one who didn't sleep through till he was three (he's now four and at school and a reliable sleeper, but it's been a long time coming). I'm astonished by anyone who's been through that and can face having another one! Kudos for even thinking about exercise in the circumstances - ShowMe, would you tell a friend going through this that she was a failure for not exercising?

Nutcracker, do you have good trainers? I've just swapped my crummy cheap ones for a decent pair, on the basis that I've stuck to this exercising lark for five months so it's justifiable, and the difference on impact is quite surprising.

Hi all. I'm a 30 DS newbie. In fact I just did my first ever level 1 this morning. I thought I was going to give up during the warm-up!!

So I thought I'd join this thread for a bit of motivation.

1 down, 29 to go! :D

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2014 09:58

Welcome gingerbread! You may have gathered from this thread that you can expect to ache a bit for the next few days but it really does get better and you begin to feel stronger pretty quickly. Smile

Ri30 L3 D1 at last. I can nearly do the full 30s of jumping lunges now! Shock - but as ever I pause between most of the cardio intervals to get my breath back, HIIT style (that's my excuse). Duck walk is as evil as ever of course.

Fullsteamahead · 10/11/2014 10:08

Morning guys, 30DS L1 day 1 completed! I didn't actually find it too bad...

I followed Jillian's video on YouTube for level 1.

Can somebody tell me is this what you get on Shred DVD or are there several different workouts for level 1 on it? If it's the same then I'll stick with repeating this workout using YouTube rather than buying DVD.

At what point does she recommend to move up to level 2?

Thanks everybody and have a great day :)

Fullsteamahead · 10/11/2014 10:10

Hi gingerbreadpixie! Waves hello! Let's try and stick together since we are both newbies :)

yadahyadah · 10/11/2014 10:11

Morning oldies and newbies.

30DS L1 D1 - done (have improved so much since I last did it in March). Even the dreaded anterior raises.

Okay I am stowing BR until the spring when my bear motivation wakes up again. Until then, I aim to just keep my fitness levels up and not going backwards altogether with the relatively friendly agony of 30DS. Lambzig boldly go forth and report back ...

ErrolTheDragon · 10/11/2014 10:36

Well done, fullsteam!

The DVD contains one workout each for L1, L2 and L3 so you can stick with youtube a bit longer, but it's only a fiver so TBH if I was you I'd order it so you've got it when you're ready to move up. Most people do 10 days at each level, but you can move faster or slower as you wish. You don't have to get everything perfect 'natalie' style before moving on (just as well as I still can't do full pressups!). So if you do 5 days a week with two rest days the whole thing takes 6 weeks.

Corneliusmurphy · 10/11/2014 10:50

Am currently on my second run through of Ri30 - I completed it last month but started from the top again this month - I feel like it get more out of it/more coordinated this way.
I did 30ds over the summer - am wondering which to pick next? Really like the 30ish minutes over fivish days - can someone recommend similar?

ElphabaTheGreen · 10/11/2014 19:22

Cornelius I do like the Davina DVDs (obviously, from my PPs Blush). I know some people find Davina herself a bit annoying but the DVDs are great. Not quite the bootcamp that Jillian's are, but still very effective and lots of mix and match options for an all-over workout.

I am going to try 30DS L1 D1 tonight DS2 let me have a 40 min nap today (had to sleep holding his dummy in his mouth to get it, but hey...Hmm) so I should have a bit of extra energy.

Gingerbreadpixie · 10/11/2014 20:38

Thanks for the welcomes. :)

Fullsteamahead - yes, let's keep each other motivated! Are you going to aim to do it every day with no rest days? Also, are you dieting with it? I'm not dieting as such, just trying to make healthier food choices (basically less chocolate, cheese and wine!)

My shoulders are aching and I think the tops of my legs are going to be sore tomorrow but as I can see that's expected.

I do NOT like the jumping jacks btw!

Fullsteamahead · 10/11/2014 21:23

Thank you so much for the advice everybody :)

Gingerbreadpixie, no way! I'm way too lazy to do it without rest days! Lol

I'm not dieting either but could do with cutting back on wine, though not sure if that's going to happen :)

I've got dodgy knees so I tried to take it a bit easier with jumping jacks today. Not feeling any pain anywhere just yet but let's wait till the morning!

Gingerbreadpixie · 10/11/2014 22:04

Fullsteam - I'm a bit worried about my knees too. Definitely felt "twingy" during the jumping parts.

Ah, the morning. What hellish aching is that going to bring??

I'm going to try without rest days but I can't imagine that's going to last too long.

Squeakyheart · 10/11/2014 22:05

Nice to see I am not the only one struggling with sleep deprivation though I am desperately ignoring the not sleeping till three comments!

Managed today though have a shoulder injury that is niggling, am doing box press ups as can't think about full ones for fear of Jillian laughing at my attempts!

Gained a pound at SW so not fair!

ElphabaTheGreen · 10/11/2014 22:12

I did it! I did D1 L1 of 30DS! Grin

OK, I'll confess I bottled the jumping jacks and did an energetic low-impact version in the first circuit because they just hurt me from head to toe and not in a good way. I did them all out in the third circuit, though. I'm glad Jillian has 400lb people doing full jacks, but I'm guessing they probably didn't have major abdominal surgery resulting in a baby three months previously Hmm

Squeaky I have given upon being ashamed of my box press-ups. I used to be seriously fit, and even at my fittest I could never do plank press-ups. I blame my big boobs Grin

ZingOfSeven · 10/11/2014 22:17

just seen this in Active and wanted to say hi.
if anyone remembers I joined very briefly last October before I discovered I was pg with DC7.
he is now almost 4 months old. Smile
I've had surgery 2 weeks ago but planning to get back to Shredding in the New Year.

hope you are all doing well - keep going, you are an inspiration!

DeliciousIrony · 10/11/2014 22:43

Can I join in? Today I have done the first day of the shred level 3. It wasn't as awful as I'd feared - although there are some tricky moves, the cardio side of it wasn't as bad as level 2. Smile

I have done the shred every day so far, but am thinking of reducing it to every other day, alternating with going to the gym. I read that JM herself advocates having regular rest days, and surely your muscles need time to recover? Or is it better just to press on and shred every day that you can?

I'm also definitely feeling a strain in my right knee...all those bloody lunges in level 2.

I am trying to hold off taking measurements until the end, but I do feel a bit more toned (although definitely no six-pack yet!). Have ordered Ripped in 30 today, perhaps that will do the trick...

ImogenQuy · 11/11/2014 07:11

30DS L3D6 done. Should have been a Killer Abs day, but I had to put the bins out and I have to leave by 7.30, so there just wasn't time to squeeze it in.

Welcome, everyone - this thread has got really lively again! DeliciousIrony, I think it's helpful to have at least one rest day a week to give your muscles a chance to recover and repair themselves - on the Ripped DVD JM suggests you do it 5 or 6 days a week. I don't know why there isn't anything similar in the Shred introduction. ErroltheDragon is the guru on this and will probably have more advice.

yadah, I recommend Killer Abs if you're undecided (even though I moan about it no end). Still no six pack here but my waist is definitely better defined and the flab at the front has reduced. It doesn't have any cardio to speak of, though, so you'd probably need to alternate it with something else. I'm wondering what to do next myself: I should have finished Shred and Killer Abs by the end of next week. I've got NMTZ waiting, and I'm wondering whether to alternate it with another run through RI 30 (aaargh) or try Kick Box Fast Fix.

Gingerbreadpixie · 11/11/2014 08:31

L1 D2 done!

I was expecting to be all seized up and hobbling today but apart from some stiff muscles I'm not too bad!

Fullsteamahead · 11/11/2014 09:44

Me too, gingerbreadpixie!

I did have sore shoulders when I woke up this morning but after doing the workout I seem to have loosened the muscles. Even jumping Jax weren't too bad today!

yadahyadah · 11/11/2014 15:47

30DS L1 D2 done ouch my buns are sore from yesterday but I have managed to squeeze it in despite a busy morning and an unexpected lunch with my partner. Glad I snaffled that brownie for pudd now.

imogen thanks for the tip. The lack of cardio is a concern but I guess I could intersperse it with the occasional BR cardios. How long is each session tho? My motivation is finding the 30-40min commitment a bit too demanding at the moment which is why I have chosen to go to Shred.

Lamby where are you? I am fretting that my program switch has left you feeling betrayed Blush

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2014 15:50

You definitely should have at least one rest day per week - I take the weekend off JM (though I usually do something active one of the days). It's not being lazy, it's good for you! My guru (BigChoc on the 5:2 threads) also reckons that taking a week off occasionally is a good thing - time to really rest&rebuild.

My lower back was a bit sore again doing Ri30 L3 today so I may take tomorrow off.

DeliciousIrony · 11/11/2014 20:20

Apparently JM suggested on a podcast that it's good to do: shred, shred, cardio, shred, shred, cardio, rest (throughout the week - not all in one day!), so that is what I will do from now on.
Shred D22L3 done :)

Anyone here do the Biggest Loser wii game as well?

ElphabaTheGreen · 11/11/2014 21:13

L1D2 30DS done, and I did the jumping jacks full tilt! Grin

Natalie's an Amazon, isn't she? Thighs like tree trunks with nary a jiggle.

I saw an infomercial ages ago for a Jillian Michaels DVD that looked like another progressive 3-2-1 thing. It looked like she did it in a room full of quite a few people. Is that a thing or did I imagine it?
