It's cold, it's dark, but that's not going to stop us pounding on through Jillian's many evil exercise programmes however much some of us may hate them. The goal is to be in shape and looking fabulous at this year's Christmas parties! Come on, you know you want to...

Sound advice Errol, thanks.

I've had a couple of sessions with a physio who believes my knee problems are caused by weak inner quads and overnight IT band which is pulling the knees out of line when I flex them greater than 80 degrees (i.e. squats, standing from sitting, big steps and stiles etc). So I'm having a few treatments of electrotherapy to isolate and strengthen the quad and daily foam rolling for the IT band after he has massaged out all the knots. Bloody agony.
But I'm relieved that it's not arthritis or cartilage problems so hopefully will be treatable.

Working Thurs & Fri but may venture into JM World at the weekend…….

Hey guys, just checking in on the new thread. Sounds like you're all doing great.
Well done ShowMe for making it to the end!
I'm just recovered from my awful cough but have tonight started on my 4th bout of mastitis (oh joy!). Bet you're all sick of me! Not much exercise going on this end! Will check back in if (sorry when!) I manage to resume my shred.

ImogenQuy · 06/11/2014 07:05

30DS L3D4 done. It's cooold here! Took me half way through the workout to get warm enough to take my fleece off. And I so didn't want to get out of my cosy bed.

sometimes, really sorry you're still feeling rubbish. Four bouts of mastitis seems extraordinarily bad luck. Keep checking in from time to time - we'll be here when you're well enough to get back to the Shred.

Hi all, could I please join too. I'm mentally preparing myself to start 30DS on Monday! Haven't been working out for a while and have dodgy knees as well :( so feeling a bit scared but desperately want to tone up!

Should I do it 5 times a week? Is it 5 consecutive days or do I take breaks in between?

Thanks girls

standingonlego · 06/11/2014 16:10

A shred returner after a long absence..got up to L3 d2 last time then fell off the wagon. However, Christmas is on the way and I need to do a more than just run to get into my party frocks! Done gym today so starting tomorrow - DH is going to do it too Hmm

Lambzig · 06/11/2014 20:10

No exercise for me today.

I was putting together a ride on tractor for DS's birthday last night and I lunged for a part on the floor while trying to hold it upright and did the thing Jillian tells us never to do, let my knee go much further than my ankle in the lunge. There was a horrible tearing pain and a massive click when I straightened it. I could hardly sleep last night for the pain and have struggled today. Not good.

Hopefully, back on it by the weekend.

ElphabaTheGreen · 06/11/2014 20:51

I think I need this thread...

Hello! Can I join?

I used to do the 30DS (L3 was no problem ) in the days before DSs 1&2. Now I'm fed up of feeling like fifty shades of flabby shit.

I did Davina Fit in 15 a couple of nights last week, but baled with the excuse that I couldn't find my 2kg hand weights and I needed a nursing sports bra. I now have both of these, but thinking I may need to build up to Jillian by using Davina for a bit. I had a CS with both DSs so my core is not what it was, and DS2 is only 13 weeks old. Any impact just hurts, and DS2 is up a lot in the night, so I think I need a gentle lead up to The Michaels Hell. I'm doing a post-natal babywearing exercise class once a week (got it tomorrow) and am doing a bit of walking could/should be doing a lot more in addition to running around after DS1 (2.5yo) but I really miss proper cross-training.

Help me keep going! Grin

ImogenQuy · 07/11/2014 07:14

Killer Abs L3 D5 done. Man, the last two circuits are hard. I was feeble today: skipped the clapping mountain climbers altogether and did tricep dips instead, and also just bailed out of the last set of squat thrusts. She would definitely not be impressed with me.

Lambzig, I winced just reading your post - hope the pain's easing off a bit now. Thanks Wine Cake for you.

Welcome, everyone!

Fullsteamahead, people do it differently. I do five consecutive days, in the mornings before I go to work, and give myself weekends off. Other people have two separate rest days. It mainly depends how it fits in with the rest of your life.

Elphaba, is there a Pilates class anywhere near you? I didn't have a section so know nothing, but 13 weeks sounds a bit soon to start full-on JM hell, especially since you say impact hurts at the moment and JM is big on her jumps. Pilates is very low-impact and really strengthens the core: I'm a big fan, but you really need a class with a teacher who can check that you're doing the moves properly.

ElphabaTheGreen · 07/11/2014 07:23

I'm an ex-dancer, Imogen, so I've done more Pilates classes than I've had hot dinners Grin The problem at the moment is getting away to do one as I'm EBFing a Velcro baby. Plus I'm on maternity pay...

On paper, I'm OK to return to normal exercise but I think I've still got a lot of relaxin washing around (I believe it takes longer to go when you're BFing) which is what's causing the pain on impact. Hence my plan to build up with Davina. She's a bit more OK with low-impact alternatives than Jillian (I'm not the only one that feels like they can glare at you disapprovingly through the TV, right?)

ImogenQuy · 07/11/2014 08:02

Sorry, Elphaba.

Birgitz · 07/11/2014 10:59

I'm in - have done one day of level one on Weds, but already missed doing it on Thurs. Need motivating!!

PorkyMinch · 08/11/2014 11:20

I'm joining in too. I have had a few (ok, several) weeks off exercising with depression. Now getting back on it.

I did level one day two this morning. My back hurts now and I feel very sleepy, but I am going to stick with it.

I have completed it twice before, so I know it will get easier. But seriously, ouch!

ElphabaTheGreen · 08/11/2014 12:53

Good one, Porky Smile Been there, glad you're emerging.

Went to my baby wearing exercise class yesterday. I will do a Davina tonight after the DCs are asleep.

Has anyone alternated 30DS with Ri30 during the same time period, just for a bit of variety?

yadahyadah · 08/11/2014 13:16

marking my place for monday. lambzig I remain undecided on how to proceed. My own semi-tidy mind is unsettled at the thought of not finishing BR.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 08/11/2014 13:55

Hi everyone, can I join. I have just done day 3 of level 1 shred. I am also cutting down on food and starting SW again on Monday.

This is the first exercise I have done since I had a total hysterectomy in June. My stomach is awful so that is my main focus. I think after I am done with shred I will do the ripped in 30 dvd.

I did the shred a couple of years ago and along with dieting lost over a stone. Just hoping I can stick at it this time to.

Does anyone else find the jump rope move crippling ?? It looks lke the easiest move but kills my ankles.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 08/11/2014 13:56

Oh, I am also going to do 15 min hula hooping per day too.

ElphabaTheGreen · 08/11/2014 17:37

Nutcracker I cope with the jump rope by swapping feet, kind of like a soft jog. You still get pretty puffed but it's easier on the ankles (voice of painful experience of having done Shred with bilateral Achilles tendonitis in the past)

ElphabaTheGreen · 08/11/2014 20:26

Legs section of Davina Fit in 15 done - really high impact at times and I'm still alive so I may be back to Jillian sooner than I thought!

Going for a big walk around a city with DS2 in a sling tomorrow, so I might just do arms tomorrow night and maybe start with Shred or Ri30 on Monday...?

The other thing I thought of Nutcracker is I'll sometimes do those skips as a bouncy jog around the livingroom - it transfers the load around different joints a bit more.

OublietteBravo · 09/11/2014 10:40

30DS L1D6 - still not getting many sessions in (RL keeps getting in the way). Still, I'm working on the assumption that a couple of sessions each week is better than none.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 09/11/2014 12:02

Thanks Elpaba, I will try that Smile

Do you all do it every day or do you have a day off ??

Toizzy · 09/11/2014 12:57

Thanks Imogen that does make me feel better actually Smile

Theoriginal when I started the shred I did it everyday but I am now doing RI30 and so far doing 5x a week, resting on Wednesdays and Sundays.
JM actually says in RI30 to exercise 5-6 days a week but to always take at least one day off.

Im still on week 2 of Ri, but starting week 3 tomorrow, looking forward to the change!

Squeakyheart · 09/11/2014 13:56

Hi

Can I join in? Have started the shred and am on day 4 (consecutive!) of level one. I ache!!! Am using a one kg weight only as need to still be able to pick up DD nine months.

Am also doing SW badly as an attempt to feel better by my DB's 40 birthday party at the end of November!

Experience has told me I will need support to keep it up!
