I am SO inspired by this woman! and wondering what, maybe less daring, plans and goals others have for the coming year?

Don't be fooled by 'lazy'suzanne Mitchy, she is super fit! She's probably run out of all the other goals mentioned Grin....hence the crochet!

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 10:04

Kind of you to say Sleep but I'm a lightweight when it comes to running

Sleepwhenidie · 31/12/2013 10:45

Me too, but at 40 I've come to the conclusion we should all stick with the exercise we enjoy rather than forcing ourselves to do the ones we think we should be doing - for whatever reason - but feel like punishment (though I am occasionally taken by the urge to go out and do a quick half hour round the park and I enjoy it, that is usually how running feels to me Smile). I actually think doing exercise we don't enjoy is ultimately counter-productive.

VivaLeBeaver · 31/12/2013 10:46

I have the same trike as the South Pole woman.....I have thinner tyres on mine though! I want to bike 50 miles.

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 10:50

Viva that trike looks brilliant, I've never had a go on that style of cycle, never even seen one anywhere!

Piffpaffpoff · 31/12/2013 10:56

My main goal is to get faster at things - I can run a 10k, I can cycle 50 miles but I go slowly. This year I want to up my speed and get out of my comfort zone. I have three specific goals:

I want to do a 10k in under 1hr 10, which would be lightening speed for me.

I want to do a sprint triathlon.

I want to do Ride Like a Grrl.

All of this depends on sorting out a bike vs car related injury to my foot though, but I start physio for it next Monday so fingers crossed!

Mitchy1nge · 31/12/2013 11:32

you couldn't possibly run out of goals!

I still like the inner tube goal. It's almost like putting 'make a list of fitness goals' at the top of your list of fitness goals so you're already winning.

am thinking of something with WEAPONS but when I googled local martial arts things it all looked a bit regulated and blokey, any ideas anyone?

LazySuzanne.

[[

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 11:41

My limited experience of martial arts classes is that they are 80% men and the instructor will be having an illicit affair with one of the women.

Sorry I've nothing more useful Confused

I can't get that link to work Viva :(

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 11:45

I always fancied judo now I come to think of it :o

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 31/12/2013 11:48

My goals are to get more muscle definition, get a bit leaner (not too much as it is starting to make me look a bit older) and work on my strength. I am planning on entering a pole comp next year so need to work on a routine for that and learn some cracking new moves.

I am loving my exercise regime at the moment and it does me good to have goals to work towards :)

Mitchy1nge · 31/12/2013 11:51

I think there is a martial arts person at the party am going to tonight so will see what he suggests. Can you get a personal trainer like Mr Miyagi in real life, so you don't have to go to classes?

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 31/12/2013 11:54

My kickboxing dojo is about 70/30 men/women but extremely friendly. It's no contact (and light touch sparring but only if you want to) so you don't get so many macho types who really just want to fight. The young teenagers who are good join in with the adult classes too, great atmosphere.

Mitchy1nge · 31/12/2013 11:55

I just want to fight Grin

I probably won't be allowed

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 11:56

One on one martial arts tuition could be rather erm.. .intimate!

RiojaHaze · 31/12/2013 12:14

To run 5k in 30 mins.
To run the race for life and my first park run.
To do a pull up! Been focusing on increasing my upper body strength to do this but still seems totally beyond me at the moment. Any tips appreciated Grin

Sleepwhenidie · 31/12/2013 12:20

Mitchy - MMA for you maybe-hardcore Grin!

Naebother · 31/12/2013 15:14

Hi mitchy

I'm doing my second 10k in February and am toying with the idea of a half next October.

Bit scared of taking on such a big challenge as I've only been running for 6 months.

Lazysuzanne · 31/12/2013 18:50

I'm revising my goals, I just want to keep on keeping on and stay injury free.
50 is waiting to embrace me (excuse the overly poetic phrasing) I just want to stay as I am for as long as possible, so it's going to be listen to my body and dont push too hard

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 31/12/2013 18:57

To do pistol squats: can get down but not up.
To train 2x week with my new bar bells and learn how to use them.
To master 10 new pole moves inc 5 new inverts.
To have very strong core.
To be very strong generally.
To stop smoking completely.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 02/01/2014 10:26

Hey trucks - nice to see another pole fan.

What moves you working on? I am still trying to master Iron X...been working on it for ages, so frustrating although I am there, just need to hold it there :)

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 02/01/2014 17:26

Iron x is hard!
Yogini, various butterfly combinations and nailing shoulder mounts and different twisted grips current focus. Also splits up pole. :)

Mitchy1nge · 02/01/2014 19:36

pistol squats! I spent a big chunk of time at NYE party showing off doing those, on a full tummy and not too easily (my elderly knees both sound like noisy bubble wrap :() I didn't know they were called that, we were preparing for a cossack dance of course) you do have to lean quite far forward to steady yourself, it's more about balance than strength I think?

am quite enthused by everyone's goals here, my main one is the marathon but have signed up for a new dance class with a friend and the martial arts will have to wait - it sounds like something you need to put quite a bit of time into before you are able to kill with your bare hands you can do much with it and I don't think I can commit to it now

OP posts:
Lazysuzanne · 02/01/2014 20:10

pistol squats as far as I can see depend, in part, on hip and ankle flexibility, which allows you do shift your weight in a certain way, but you still need the strength to do them.

I'm not even gonna try, thats just too much pressure on the knee's, I'm way too old for crazy shit like that :o Blush :o

Mitchy1nge · 02/01/2014 20:16

quads ached more yesterday from those than they ever have from running for A Very Long Way Hmm

go on, try just one Grin
