Is there a general running thread?

I am pretty new to running (started in Septmember) but have some pretty ambitious targets in 2014 (10k and half marathon) so looking for other runners to advice, kick up the backside and generally chat about all things running.

I have seen a few couch to 5k threads but I didn't get on with that so can't use those threads so thought a thread for all runners whether they are new to it or experienced runners would be good?

Im normally a size 3 but my Adidas are a 4.5! so comfy though and excellent for trail.

Off to look at some Brooks ( I saw them on the back of my magazine last night and liked the look of them)

Thanks, they're not too pricey either- only £21 online.

ElvisJesusAndCocaCola · 05/01/2014 11:05

That's fab though, rudolf. It's so easy to put if off, isn't it?

I've left my trainers at my parents' house after christmas Angry. Can get them back In a couple of weeks but had to go out and buy new ones as couldn't not run for that long. Cheapos - I hope they don't rub or give an injury :(

Eau - are you doing a Cambridge half, did you say up thread? I live in Norfolk, always looking for local-ish runs. The Lydd half is near my parents, can't really travel too far for a run these days. At least our runs will both be flat!

EauRouge · 05/01/2014 11:11

I'm not doing the Cambridge one, I'm doing the Swavesey one. I think the Cambridge one is pretty popular. They do a boundary run as well as the main half, which is either a full or half marathon.

EATmum · 05/01/2014 12:09

Can I join? Doing HM in Richmond in about 10 weeks. Even if I have to bloody walk the thing! Off for a run shortly, but nervous that it'll be too little too late ...

MrsSippie · 05/01/2014 13:22

I supposed to be doing the Cambridge one Grin Unbelievably, have ricked my back - cleaning my stupid teeth. I did it on Friday, and it seems 'ok' now, so I may have a trot later. It seems like it's one thing after the other - I have tennis elbow anyway, my calf has been playing up for weeks and now this :(

ElvisJesusAndCocaCola · 05/01/2014 13:39

EAT, I think 10 weeks is fine. How much running are you currently doing? Lots of plans in women's running mag are not much longer than that, though you may only be running the full distance for the first time on the day. Sounds a bit hilly to me!

ElvisJesusAndCocaCola · 05/01/2014 13:40

MrsSippie, poor you. So frustrating, isn't it? Especially when you just want to get on with running. When I got injured I went to a specialist before starting again, as I would rather be running for years from now than muck it up through impatience. Having said that, I have run plenty of times when worrying about niggles!

Hope you recover soon.

EauRouge · 05/01/2014 14:08

DH has tennis elbow and an osteopath sorted him out. Hope your back and calf are better soon!

9 miles in the bag despite my toe being a bit sore, going to have a fry up and relax now- DH has taken the DDs out so I have the house to myself!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/01/2014 14:38

I am doing the Cambridge boundary half, as the other Cambridge one was full by the time I thought about signing up. From memory they are a week apart.

Well done on your 9 miles Eau - I was thinking of running today, but legs are tired after a few consecutive days running so I will go tomorrow.

MrsSippie · 05/01/2014 14:40

Thanks. Well I bit the bullet - did a load of stretches and pilates stuff and have just been out Grin I ran for 24 minutes, but the stupid GPS wasn't working for some reason so have no idea how far I did! However, not too fussed really, chuffed I managed so long after a break. Back ok, elbow ok, calf a bit sire, but hopefully I can get back on with now. Sitting with leg up and frozen peas on!!

MrsSippie · 05/01/2014 14:41

sore! not sire..

Sirzy · 05/01/2014 14:48

Glad you managed to get our MrsSippie.

I am looking forward to DS returning to pre-school in the morning so I can go out for a long(ish) run.

Very pleased as I managed 8 miles today. I am massively inconsistent in what I can manage - last time I went out I struggled with 3 miles! but 8 is the longest I've done so far.hopefully this makes the half more likely... NB the route is NOT the hilly bit of Richmond, it follows the river route - not that I checked that specifically before booking or anything ...

Fishandjam · 05/01/2014 15:51

Just found out that a friend of mine is doing a Janathon - min 5k every day during January Shock

Well done to eau, Mrs and EAT on their weekend runs. I'll go out tomorrow night and then our office twice-a-week bootcamp starts again Tuesday. I have a feeling the instructor will brutalise us as a punishment for Xmas mince pies...

Blimey, if my school PE teacher could see me now!

Sirzy · 05/01/2014 16:05

lol Fish, I would love to run passed the field at my old school when they are out and stick two fingers up to the dragon PE teacher as I go!

Haha EAT, first 10k I ever did was in Richmond Park, about 10 years ago. First 2k was uphill :(

Well done to those who ran today. I do love the headspace of a long run at the weekend, combined with the need to go slow and not push myself. Relaxing. I struggle with speed sessions so don't do them as often as I should.

10k with running partner tomorrow.

MrsSippie · 05/01/2014 17:23

I like the look of Janathon - may give it a go...

EauRouge · 05/01/2014 17:40

I'm already doing Jantastic. I can't run every day, I must not deviate from my HM training plan

ElvisJesusAndCocaCola · 05/01/2014 17:46

What is Jantastic? Janathon sounds interesting but exhausting!

EauRouge · 05/01/2014 17:51

Jantastic. It's one of those things where you pledge to run a certain number of times per week and score points on how many you manage. I wasn't going to bother but loads of people on the running forum I go on are doing it so I joined the team.

karatekimmi · 05/01/2014 18:17

I'm doing Jantastic I think you could always make a mumsnet team (I am already with Telford parkrun though).

I'm braving a running club tomorrow night, I am sure they will be friendly, and they are doing a couch to 5k club, so they must want really slow runners Grin

I think the Janathon as I understand it is any exercise everyday for January, so 30DS and other cross training counts i'm not doing it, and I could be wrong ...

MrsSippie · 05/01/2014 18:30

Bugger. I keep forgetting I will be 'out of action' from the 13th until the beginning of February :( will do something like Febletic (just made that up!)

karatekimmi · 05/01/2014 18:34

Love Febletic, you should patent that!!
