Is there a general running thread?

I am pretty new to running (started in Septmember) but have some pretty ambitious targets in 2014 (10k and half marathon) so looking for other runners to advice, kick up the backside and generally chat about all things running.

I have seen a few couch to 5k threads but I didn't get on with that so can't use those threads so thought a thread for all runners whether they are new to it or experienced runners would be good?

I only managed 2 k today BUT it was done in 13 mins which I was happy with. Had to cut short as was running in rain and as a glasses wearer that left me blind!

Have fun cinnamon Smile

Well done Sirzy Smile

Feel that my cats won't make good running companions. Can I still be on this thread as a non-dog-person? Must confess I'm weirdly fascinated that there are people able to run without something to listen to. I think I must be v boring as I definitely need distraction. But maybe you just get used to it.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/02/2014 21:16

We did 4.5miles tonight with my two plus 4 others, was pretty slow one of our group did 18miles yesterday training for London marathon.

I find it clears my head EATmum, I sometimes find myself a bit down the road and not sure how I got there! One of my cats often comes with me when I walk the dogs but never when we're running :)

MerryBuddha · 18/02/2014 08:28

Fishandjam unfortunately Eau and I aren't doing the same HM. I am doing mine on my lonesome but am wishing I knew someone else who was doing it. Two friends had said they would do it with me but both dropped out. I will be travelling there by myself, running and travelling back by myself. Would of loved to shared the experience but that hasn't worked out Sad.

Plan today is a 5 mile walk/run up hills.

EauRouge · 18/02/2014 08:34

Are you doing Silverstone? Could you post on their FB page and ask for a running buddy?

cinnamongreyhound · 18/02/2014 08:43

The guy who's doing London marathon is doing silverstone half, he did it last year in preparation but had to defer his London place as he injured his Achilles. He said its a fast course and very clever how you never run the same bit if track in the same direction twice, I actually felt tempted talking about it last night :)

EauRouge · 18/02/2014 08:51

I'm tempted by Silverstone next year. I love motor racing, but it's sponsored by Nestle (that seems near enough impossible to avoid though) and every time I've been to Silverstone it's been really, really windy. But I might be tempted to do it next year if I've got company...

ThursdayLast · 18/02/2014 08:53

Ha!
We watched the moto gp at Silverstone in 2012. Oh my gosh it was June and it was bloody freezing!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/02/2014 09:03

I quite fancy Silverstone too Smile

Buddha - if you aren't doing Eau's half, are you doing the one cinnamon and I are doing in the same neck of the woods? I could do with some company at the back Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/02/2014 09:07

Sorry, that suggested that you are as slow as I am Buddha, I didn't mean it like that.

I also have to get home on my own - DH was going to drive me to the start and meet me at the finish but he is now leaving for an overseas work trip on the Saturday. According to the race info there is transport from the half marathon finish back to the start - I hope they wait for me!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/02/2014 09:10

My hubby is a motoGP fan ThursdayLast, we went in 2006 at donington park but it got so much more expensive after that. We paid £6 for dss's ticket Shock! I'd love to take him again sometime though. We cooked, took an umbrella just in case and ended up using it as shade!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/02/2014 09:12

There's no time limit at all as far as I could see OhOneOhTwoOhThree, I'm sure you'll be fine. Did you register for transport? I didn't as dh is going to pick me up, I'm sure we could take you too. I can't really picture how it's going to work though. Two of my club mates are doing the marathon, they've both done it several years now and one of them was the one who persuaded me to do it :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/02/2014 10:02

I think I registered for transport cinnamon, on the off chance that DH might not have been able to make it. He's usually at the finish for me - we used to run HMs together so he'd have to wait. Although he hasn't been able to run since last year, he's been at the finish for me whenever possible.

ThursdayLast · 18/02/2014 15:27

I love the Moto GP cinnamon, but that year is was beyond cold. And Crutchlow fell off and broke his ankle Shock

Anyways...

Just took DS to see his GPs which translates as i dumped DS on his GPs and took myself off for a run before he could notice i was gone Grin
6.5 miles in an hour. V happy with that. Feeling confident I'm not going to make a massive tit of myself at the Sport Relief mile.

Anyone else out today?

Sirzy · 18/02/2014 16:07

Just done 4.5k in 30 mins. Happy with that!

Well done sirzy, thats quite a pace!

Sirzy · 18/02/2014 16:26

Faster than I have managed before, knackered now! Supposed to be at bootcamp in a few hours aswell!

OP posts:
EATmum · 18/02/2014 17:42

Good one Sirzy. Feel like a total slacker now (but really don't mind so much ...Smile)

cinnamongreyhound · 18/02/2014 20:23

When we went to donington there was no English rider ThursdayLast, so the whole crowd were cheering for Valentino but he started right at the back of the grid and eventually came second, was a great atmosphere!

I've been tonight did 4.5 miles in 46 mins, very muddy in places and with dogs but lots of fun. Don't normally go two days in a row but had itchy feet today!

Fishandjam · 18/02/2014 20:58

Wow sirzy, that's speedy!

Bootcamp instructor told me I had a surprisingly strong core today (not sure whether to Hmm or Grin!) This was after managing to hold a V sit for 2.5 mins. He didn't see me barely able to get the door to the ladies' open afterwards though, hehe.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 18/02/2014 21:18

Another 3 in 30 mins here, another run in with snarling dogs! I'm putting my feet up t

MerryBuddha · 18/02/2014 23:31

Thanks everyone. Yes, I am doing the Silverstone HM. I think I would of pulled out by now but signed up to raise money for a charity. I am sure I will be fine, but stand around on my own until it starts is a bit unsettling but I am sure I will be fine.

Finally managed to go out at 9pm at the gym. Walked 1k, ran (at 11.5k pace ) for 3k, the fasted walked (7k) for 3k. Then got chucked out as they were closing.

Cocochops · 19/02/2014 15:02

Hello runners can I join?
Just getting back into running after a few years off having dc.
Am signed up for a 10k in may and half marathon in September. At the moment doing about 3 miles 3 times a week but will start upping the distance soon for 10k training.

Love using map my run but bit sick of phone jangling around in my pocket so thinking of treating myself to a gps watch. Any recommendations? Quite like the look for the garmin 10 as not too expensive

Sirzy · 19/02/2014 15:17

Hi coco!

I am doing the same - 10k in May, 1/2 marathon in Sept.

No idea bout the watches, hoping Santa will bring me one this year.
