Is there a general running thread?

I am pretty new to running (started in Septmember) but have some pretty ambitious targets in 2014 (10k and half marathon) so looking for other runners to advice, kick up the backside and generally chat about all things running.

I have seen a few couch to 5k threads but I didn't get on with that so can't use those threads so thought a thread for all runners whether they are new to it or experienced runners would be good?

Hi Amber, I admire your ambition!
Oh Sirzy, so you were coming down with something, that's a bummer. I ran on sat morning full of cold and it was a v unpleasant experience, so I diagnose rest for you?

I have a busy morning in real life, so I'm hoping to get out this arvo if I don't eat too heavy a lunch. I finished my micoach plan on Saturday, so am hoping to get out and give Runkeeper a whirl.

Fishandjam · 10/02/2014 10:03

I feel like poo today too, not helped by non-sleeping kids

Amber, you sound like you're making huge progress in a very short space of time - well done! Were you already fairly fit? (Though I really only have two words to say to you - bootcut jeans Grin)

AmberNectarine · 10/02/2014 10:12

I didn't think I was fit at all, but I'm 29, so have some vestige of youth on my side!

Bootcut jeans are coming back - I won't be trialling them though was they make my legs look stumpy (well stumpier!)

Sirzy · 10/02/2014 11:27

yes Thursday lots of rest, I am annoyed as today was my best chance for a long run but even the idea of walking the half mile to get DS from pre school.

Fish - hope you feel better soon!

Good run this morning - only 5.5km but legs felt light so I had a strong fast finish. Last week was tough and knocked my confidence a bit and put me off my run. I'm enjoying the boxing classes, they'd a bit of a break from the drizzle. Bootcamp in the park tomorrow looks very wet.

Feel better soon poorly heads. No run for me today, but I've pencilled DP in for DS breakfast duty so I think I'm just gonna go for it no matter the weather.

I was thinking of your poor knees earlier yoube, when I was watching the mogul skiers, that is a truly scary sport Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 10/02/2014 21:19

Hoping to go in the early hours tomorrow morning, going to be very wet under foot even if it has stopped raining :(

Get well soon those who are poorly.

Morning all.
Just did my first run with Runkeeper, that woman's voice is so abrupt! It was good though, did a route that I would normally do with some intervals of walking, but without the walking today. 4.3 miles in 42mins with a reluctant staffy Smile
Treating myself to malt loaf for breakfast Brew

I hope you're all safe from the weather, stay safe

Fishandjam · 11/02/2014 12:20

Ugh, my couple of days of not feeling fight has accelerated into D&V. DD had the V bit too, just to make life interesting Hmm. Thank heavens for washing machines!

youbethemummylion · 11/02/2014 15:49

Thursdaylast I watched the moguls with added sound affects of ooh ouch eek etc. Their poor poor knees!

Sirzy · 11/02/2014 15:55

Fish - hope you feel better soon.

I feel much better today, waiting until tomorrow or thursday to go running though trying to be sensible!

My 6.5k did not materialise as DH came home from work at 9 and by then I was knackered. Managed 3.3k at the gym at lunch in about 20mins though so not too bad. Need to improve that pace if I'm to make a sub-60 10k though!

Sirzy · 12/02/2014 11:26

I wanted to run this afternoon, finally well enough and have time and now its blowing a gale and pissing down. I think the world is conspiring against me running this week

TwelveLeggedWalk · 12/02/2014 15:37

Haven't run for days here, just beyond knackered - think a lot of it is time of the month for me. And it is blowing a HOOLEY here. Seriously, 60 knots. Argh.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/02/2014 21:26

I ran yesterday morning and fell asleep on the sofa at 8.45 Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 13/02/2014 13:23

Wore my new trainers this morning and for 4 miles they were very comfy! Have seen a chiropodist today too to sort out my mangy feet and she said they're in quite good condition :)

ThursdayLast · 13/02/2014 14:32

Well done cinnamon, I'm glad one of us is getting out still!
Nice feet btw Wink

Snowdown · 13/02/2014 14:47

Yes well done cinnamon - a combination of crap weather and ds being very poorly has me slobbishly hanging around the house and half term next week will not improve things!

Fishandjam · 14/02/2014 12:23

Parkrun is cancelled tomorrow again, boo! But my new trail shoes have arrived at the Collect+ pickup point, yay! Please let at least one pair fit; I've ordered a 7.5 and an 8, as I've already sent the 6 and 7 back for being too small!

Mind you, I planned a run this lunchtime but I've just looked out at the louring sky, howling gale and spitting rain, and thought "nah". (My excuse is that I know I don't have a towel with me and I don't want to get all damp and chilled and then have to change back into work clothes.)

ThursdayLast · 14/02/2014 12:37

Absolutely no chance of me going out today, despite having nothing planned whatsoever. The weather is brutal today, and we've got Environment Agency hi vis lurking around which us never a good sign.

I wanted to try out shiny new park run, but I just saw it's been cancelled boo.

EauRouge · 14/02/2014 12:41

Dragged myself around for 4.5 miles today sans headphones. Was a bit dull and took ages to find my rhythm but my pace wasn't too bad in the end.

This weather is miserable and I want it to go away Angry Where are those lovely bright, crisp winter mornings that are perfect for running?

cinnamongreyhound · 14/02/2014 12:59

I agree EauRouge, it's horrible! I haven't run today but went for a miserable grey walk before the rain started with all the kids, I want sunshine even if it's cold! Angry

EauRouge · 14/02/2014 13:09

Thursday Oh no :( Have you had flood warnings? Hope things don't get too bad, although the forecast for the next week isn't looking great.

ThursdayLast · 14/02/2014 13:49

The river looks likely to burst its banks, but to be fair it's already dealt with the rain much much better this year than last.
Our house is inches above the flood line, so fingers crossedShock
I just took the dog out and didn't end up in Oz, so if my lunch goes down ok, I might risk a half hour jog...

ThursdayLast · 14/02/2014 15:12

Spamming the thread a bit today, but I just did my first sort-of-time-trial.
I ran away from my house for 15mins, turned around and came back. The aim was to push for speed rather than distance.
I did 3.25miles in approx 30mins, Runkeeper is telling me that's an average 9min mile!
Amazing! I totally didn't think I had it in me!
And I didn't get swept away Grin
