A thread for anyone thinking of starting, doing or completed the c25k plan!

The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

WEM your stepping stones podcast was much more reasonable! Thank-you for pushing me to try again! The stamina one is definitely one for a month or two, when I've picked up the pace!

Treadmill run on the continent was out as I forgot to set the alarm clock..... So still not done a 30min 5km......

Keep going everyone, look at us all go!

wem · 30/08/2013 21:23

That's great nextphase. I've certainly found stepping stones enough of a challenge for now. I managed to do the full 30 mins on Thursday, but the last 5 minutes at 160bpm is a killer. From the looks of it that's pretty much where the stamina one you tried sets off! There's always something to aim for though ;)

I'm off to my first parkrun tomorrow :)

nextphase · 30/08/2013 21:33

Not quite - starts at 158! Goes up to 165, and is 35 mins!

wem · 30/08/2013 21:39

Blimey. Mind you, I looked up AudioFuel - the people that make the music for the NHS podcasts - and the tracks available on their website seem to start at 175bpm!

wem · 30/08/2013 21:41

That might not be true actually, I think I was just looking at 10K training plans...

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 30/08/2013 22:25

There are definitely slower tracks than 175 bpm I bought one! I don't think my legs could actually move at that speed, even if they weren't trying to lug the rest of me along with them Wink

DramaAlpaca · 30/08/2013 23:29

I went back to the park for a run this evening. It was raining, and there wasn't a soul around, so no glamour mummies to feel intimidated by!

I plodded around the park quite happily for 30 minutes non-stop and loved both the solitude and the rain, which kept me cool.

Very happy as I didn't think I'd manage the full 30 minutes outdoors. I'm enjoying a glass of Wine now - I reckon I deserve it Smile.

So Envy of those of you who have park runs in your area. They don't exist here, unfortunately.

pennygallops · 31/08/2013 08:06

Yeah, I've beaten the jet lag and I'm up and getting ready for parkrun. DS has just told me he has forced himself to get up - he loves a parkrun. Not sure DD will be able to make it. We are not expecting great times this morning, just going to enjoy ourselves. Oh and we'll be half-way to 50 after today. Grin

Happy running everyone.

LizzieVereker · 31/08/2013 11:28

Did W7 R2 this morning, and got 3k badge Smile. However (you'll think I'm silly now) I always go extra early on Saturday to get done before the Park runners start. I was a bit late today so they were all streaming towards me to the start as I gallumphed along for my last 5 mins.

I still feel a bit "not ready" for running with other people, but one day!

cinnamongreyhound · 31/08/2013 13:13

Feel better soon watchingout!

Well done DramaAlpaca! I love running in the rain in the summer but hate it in the winter especially if I've already got wet a couple of times before in the day!

Glad to hear you're settling back into normal life pennygallops Wink

Well done for week 7 and 3k LizzieVereker! Park runners are really friendly people and just want everyone to get involved so you'd be fine! We try to collect up people running while we're setting up Wink

I got up too late to take Peanut for a walk before parkrun so took him with me! First km was 4.41m!!!!!!!!!!! One of the dogs we run with was there and his owner does a 21m 5k so knew there was no way we were keeping with them but peanut didn't! Managed 28m + I think with a poo stop and 2 wee stops :) that's 13 for me so quarter of the way to my t-shirt!

graduated! Not an elegant or satisfying run, sadly - was in notable pain from 18mins and was 100-200m.shy of 5k. But I have done the 27runs and stuck at it and I have a physio to see so hopefully will get through this. I'm going to focus on the fact I've had some lively runs and joyous moments doing it, loved your support and company, and am defi.Italy fitter and more energetic than if I was still on the couch Smile Plan now is to keep up some slow steady jogs and work in pelvis, then think about progress to 10k after that. Thanks for all the support.

watching feel better soon. Judy sympathy re MiL and Envy at Dartmoor running. Drama set one up Grin Really.

pennygallops · 31/08/2013 16:10

Managed 30mins14 for my parkrun - happy with that. That's 25 for myself and DS. It is great to be back in the swing of things cinnamon. Your dog sounds lovely (and energetic).
Well done Lizzie - parkruns are great, keep it in mind for when you are feeling a little more confident.

DramaAlpaca · 31/08/2013 16:48

cinnamongreyhound · 01/09/2013 09:00

Congratulations scarecrow22! Hope the hip gets sorted soon.

You should start your own DramaAlpaca might not allow you to run too much though.

He's a greyhound pennygallops so energetic for short periods!! Well done on 25 parkruns. Our has been going for 25 weeks and I've run 12 and volunteered for 11.

Hi all

Well I managed to get my trainers back on after my insect bite reaction...ran 6k and felt fine! It's surprising how you can retain fitness even though I'd not run for 10 days..

The scabs are bleeding now, but on balance I'm pleased I did it. I've got running class next week which is quite challenging so I need to keep it up.

Well done to everyone-and please keep posting, I love hearing about everyone's progress!

And to all lurkers, delurk and say hello..WinkGrin

LizzieVereker · 01/09/2013 11:25

W7 R3 done, but ouch, owwwwch!

I will have a rest day now, but am syarting a new job tomorrow so I wanted to get to a certain point iyswim. Glad you were able to graduate Scarecrow , hope your hip is feeling better gradually.

Very inspired by all you park runners, I will be brave enough one day.. Drama - you are my current inspiration - I want that feeling you described when you graduated!

scarecrow22 · 01/09/2013 13:22

drama you can pit on your own showWink www.parkrun.com/about/startyourownevent/

Oddly hip not too bad today, though not right. Gives me confidence that keeping up some slow running not a bad choice - speed seems to hurt more than distance.

Good luck with new job LizzieV

8 mins running, along with some walking is all that is required for week 1 - and thats running in 1 min blocks.

I've not suffered with knees. What sort of trainers have you got?

Generally I suffered with aches and pains (exercise related, not damage related) at a similar level all the way through - but I was doing more and more.

If they are painful, I'd look into it. If they are protesting slightly to unaccustomed exercise, you should be OK?

A couple of folk here have really suffered with knees tho, and I'm sure someone will be along soon with proper advice.

PS whats the size 12 thread? I'm looking at trying to get my BMI back to normal. Not sure if that will get me into a 12 or not.

I find I am not losing weight because basically I eat the calories I burn. I need to limit what I shove in my gob. Basically. BMI 28.

Hi sunshineMMum I have suffered with my knee, but it is ok again. I would recommend getting your gait analysed. When my hurt I was doing about 30k a week (sometimes more) and running up to 5 times a week. I now make sure I rest a day and I also changed my trainers.
I haven't lost any weight with running (but I was trying to either) but I have definitely toned up.
