A thread for anyone thinking of starting, doing or completed the c25k plan!

The last thread had so many new people starting and working through the plan it was lovely. As well as those who had finished and working towards faster times or greater distances. Everyone welcome no matter age, fitness or ability.

Peanut and I did 5k tonight and I let him off for most of it so he ran like a loon to catch me up after getting so engrossed in something worth a min or two's sniffing :)

In my hotel near JFK airport, the end of my 5 week holiday is here and tomorrow we'll be travelling back to England. I can at last get back into a running routine and re-engage with you guys (and a better diet). Looking forward to parkrun on Saturday. Going to spent some time on Thursday catching up with this thread...
Hope you are all good and still enjoying your running.
For my holiday reading, one of my holiday reading books was Born To Run by Christopher McDougall - if you haven't read it, DO!! A great read.

watchingout · 28/08/2013 07:16

You can't go cinnamon! You're the guru with the advice and motivational stories Smile

Welcome back pennygallops. Lots of graduates and a few newbies.

I'm sure some of the regulars will get back from hols soon. Currently got a cold/sore throat so really not inclined to run his morning. I walked my normal route yesterday, so the dog was pleased. Can't see how you can run with a lead cinnamon, I couldn't even fast walk. Far too many sniffs...

FoundAChopinLizt · 28/08/2013 07:29

I'm lurking on the sidelines as I can't run Confused I got bitten by uk Mosquitos (yes, they do exist) then my legs swelled up with blisters and weals. Had to take steroids, antibiotics and now can't get my shoes on and feel like crap.

But I will be back, so don't go cinnamon...

People are probably on holiday and dashing around panicking about back to school.

jchocchip · 28/08/2013 07:44

Well done drama Flowers

I wrote a post and lost it. I have one more week of pills for my bursitis and fingers crossed will be able to start running again. If not gp has promised referral. Have volunteered twice and dh has run so he has done 14 parkruns now but he has a way to go before we have matching t shirts Grin. Have ordered mine and hope it will come next month Grin So missing running, NEVER thought I would say that! Hope I can ease back into it, I'm stressed and grumpy without my run :(

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 07:44

That's rubbish FoundAChopinLizt, hope it settles down soon!

I usually let him off after I've got a bit into the forest watchingout then sniffs and canters up to catch me when he's done. When we run with other dogs he's far too interested in playing with them to notice much else :)

I love being here just feel a bit daft sometimes that I graduated such a longtime ago and perhaps I should move to a general running thread rather than c25k!

Nah cinnamom, we are graduates off this fred and proud of it Grin

jchocchip · 28/08/2013 07:53

Ouch found they usually bite me. Sounds a severve reaction. Sending healing vibes to you. And Cake

FoundAChopinLizt · 28/08/2013 07:57

Thanks for sympathy everyoneThanks

theladylovescupcakes · 28/08/2013 10:11

Hi everyone, I've just started this again after so many attempts where i've just dwindled away. Doing wk 5, ran on mon and again last night. Planning to do run 3 tonight. I know I should really be resting in between but I do combat on a thur and fri and really can't fit it in anywhere else. I feel great though, like I can really do it this time! My question is, I'm feeling a little sore in my hips/groin. Anything to prevent/help this? Thank you!

LizzieVereker · 28/08/2013 21:38

Don't go Cinnamon, I need you and Scarecrow, you've really kept me going!!! Did W6 R3 today, ready for W7 :)

scarecrow22 · 28/08/2013 22:18

leaving two days between runs and did today's 30 mins real slow for me - got to end but hip quite uncomfortable tonight and was seconds from a spasm at end of run. I'm going.to split the difference in two earlier w9 runs and not count first but do count second. So next run is my Graduation Run. but instead.of Grin and Thanks I'm feeling v low about aches and pains since time.got over 20 mins and wondering if I should abandon running and accept my crappy old.frame.is not made for it ( though I think I'm okay at it in mental sense). Had a glass of wine which doesn't help but very Sad about it all.

Sorry v self.obsessed post. Don't leave cinnamon. They won't appreciate you as much as we do!!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/08/2013 22:27

You're all so kind :)

Sorry you're feelin down about it scarecrow22, my dh is of the opinion pain shouldn't stop you doing anything but it does get you down I know. Is it worth going to see a physio to see if its something that can be worked on or perhaps add in something strengthing such as Pilates or yoga?

Rest days will probably help Theladylovescupcakes Wink. I get achy hips if I push myself but in a muscles have worked too hard way not in a sore joints way.

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2013 22:53

cinnamon you have to stay - this thread wouldn't be the same without you & your wise words & encouragement.

scarecrow sorry you are feeling sore. Hope you feel better soon & that your graduation run goes well.

Lizzie good luck for W7 and thelady for W5R3.

Found mozzies love me, too. You have my sympathy Cake.

I did my first post graduation run yesterday. Took myself off to the park feeling nervous after graduating on the treadmill. Then felt intimidated when I met a group of women I know slightly getting ready to set off for their run. They are all younger, slimmer and more glamorous than me... I wanted to turn round & go home, but I set off after them, nervously. To my astonishment, when they had all stopped for a walk or a breather, I was able to carry on running past them doing circuits of the park. I was fitter than they were!

I managed about 20 minutes without stopping, then had a quick breather and ran for another five minutes. Was very pleased, because the park has slight inclines & I'm fairly sure I was going faster than I would on the treadmill.

I felt great afterwards, and am still on a high now!

MsVestibule · 28/08/2013 23:17

I'm a newbie! Classic 'can't run for the bus' type. I go to Curves 2-3 times per week but not during school holidays. I'm 42, and sliding into an overweight, unfit middle age. My 6yo DD can run faster than me, so hopefully C25k is the programme for me.

But TBH, I find it impossible to imagine that I'll be able to run 5k by the end of October. Then again, if everybody else can do it...

In the past, I have had dodgy ankles and knees, so I'm going to have my gait assessed this weekend and buy some suitable running shoes. I'll start next week and report back!

jchocchip · 28/08/2013 23:26

yay go for it MsVestibule

MaireadnotMermaid · 28/08/2013 23:31

week 7!! (nc)

Bakingtins · 29/08/2013 07:53

cinnamon please don't leave, your encouragement has kept so many people going.
scarecrow hope your hip is settling down and you are able to enjoy a graduation run.
drama that must have felt great! well done on beating not just the chimp but the glamourously runners!
Good luck MrsV

I have been slacking whilst visiting my parents but will gt back on track with some of the 5k+ podcasts now.

MaireadnotMermaid · 29/08/2013 21:38

ran 3k for the first time (w7d2)! delighted.

DramaAlpaca · 29/08/2013 22:17

Great stuff Mairead!

Good luck MrsV!

This thread is very quiet today. Where is everybody?

FoundAChopinLizt · 29/08/2013 22:29

I'm still sidelined, waiting for my mosquito bites to heal enough to get my trainers-or any shoes on. Meanwhile I'm housebound, and decluttering like a mad woman. If it's not beautiful or useful, it's gone watch out dh/dcs.. SmileSmileGrin

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2013 08:35

I went to training weds night and we did 1min fast, 2, 3, 2, 1 each with 1 min recovery. Did this twice then 1m fast, 2min recover 3 times and warm up and down lap was 8km in total :)

Planned to go this morning but spent most of yesterday walking and not really drinking enough so felt awful this morning and didn't go. Parkrun tomorrow :)

Well done MaireadnotMermaid and DramaAlpaca!

Welcome MsVestibule, it really is a great plan!

I'm back from the worst holiday of my life. Thank heavens for the running - it gave me my only chance of escape (from MIL) every other day.

I didn't run as well as I'd hoped - not so far or so fast - but ran at least 30 minutes each time. Unfortunately, the campsite was at the top of the only hill on the western coast of France, it seems. Although that kept me in practise for the return to Dartmoor. Looking forward to running tonight. Have had two days off now.

Sorry to hear of all these injuries. Hope you're all recovered soon.

Potential first parkrun tomorrow...?

watchingout · 30/08/2013 10:11

Feeling Envy of those planning Park runs tomorrow. Never thought I'd feel that. Three months ago I didn't even know what parkrun was! Picked up a bug after getting so cold last Saturday and am now sat in bed nursing Lemsip Hmm

On a more positive note, welcome back Judy, go for it MsV, and congratulations Mairead!

Love your account of your post graduation run Drama GrinGrin

MaireadnotMermaid · 30/08/2013 19:18

I find running excellent for getting away from MIL. I see myself running Mo Farah stylee away from the mad woman.
