Hi all.

W2R2 done this morning. Gorgeous morning for it!

It was ok. Second to last run I found hard again but managed it and then was determined to do last one.

migrant · 19/06/2013 15:00

Hi Chopin,

The c210k I was using is by Zen labs and is free. The Hal Higdon programme that I'm now on is also free and he has half marathon and full marathon programmes too. It really does seem much kinder on the body. My Kms are still going up but I feel much better. Could be coincidence of course, heaven forbid, I could even be getting fitter??!!

FoundAChopinLizt · 19/06/2013 16:08

Migrant

Thanks, I will try Hal Higdon to get me over my post race anticlimax!

I'm sure you're getting fitter-how long have you been running? I'm on about 12 weeks since starting C25K, never ran before.

I wonder how long until you hit a plateau of fitness? I'm quite geeky so I like to know the 'science bit'.

Bakingnovice · 19/06/2013 18:05

W2d1 done today. Feeling really tired today and seemed to have gained 2lbs!! Am hoping its just water retention. Really looking forward to run 2 but know I need some rest days.

eminemmerdale · 19/06/2013 19:14

just done W3 r2. Hard!!! the first 3 min run defeated me :( had to stop at 2.20 but managed the rest so pretty pleased!!

amigababy · 19/06/2013 19:49

w3r2 done here too, I had a change of location while filling time during dd 's ballet exam. It was much flatter than usual. Which was nice. But lots of traffic which made it very noisy, so actually I missed my tiny rural hilly lane that I normally run.

it could prove handy in week 4 though, the hills look a bit daunting for a 5 minute run.

pennygallops · 19/06/2013 20:49

Good evening guys. How's the running going? This thread is just getting bigger and bigger. Grin

I'm a little miserable tonight. I was going to go out for a gentle run but my knee is causing problems again. So I've decided to rest it until Saturday (park run). Thinking about seeing a sports pysio.

queenjellybelly · 19/06/2013 21:11

Completed w2 r1 this morning. Struggled but did it! Bakingnovice I seem to be gaining a little weight too! It's so unfair!!!!! Was hoping the fat would melt off like butter. I swear I must sweat more than 2lbs in weight each run!

SneezySnatcher · 19/06/2013 21:38

Week 1 R2 done (complete newbie)! Went with DSis and DSIL and really enjoyed it. Lovely SIL is a great runner and can easily do 18 miles but stuck with us, bless her (she has just had a baby like me).

It was very warm tonight, which was tough going. I did find that I was recovering quicker than the 90 seconds but I stuck with Laura as I really don't want to push myself. My section scar feel fine but I'd hate to cause any damage (I'm 9 weeks post-partum).

So envious of those of you who are further on. I hope I manage to stick with it.

eminemmerdale · 19/06/2013 21:51

It's taken me five weeks to get to week three! I think we all have to go at our own pace to keep with it!

UmBongo · 19/06/2013 21:58

Bakingnovice and queenjellybelly Muscle weighs more than fat, thats why GrinGrin

Sorry for the knee pain penny I hope it recovers quickly.

Well done for starting Sneezysnatcher Amazing at only 9 weeks after a section, I didn't start until dd was nearly a year!

I've just run a pb! 5k in 34min 36. I am pleased with that, I was consciously trying to push myself so I would have been severely hacked off if it wasn't quicker!

Off for a shower now before anyone comments about the smell Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2013 00:14

Well done everyone who's running and those not quite making the runs don't worry you'll manage it next time! I've had a shit evening and busy few days so not really time to read back through sorry.

Sorry to hear about your knee pennygallops and well done UmBongo!

I did the 5k time trial with my club tonight, 27.24 so getting back to my pb finally! Only 36secinds to go! Ran there and back plus warm down so 10 k total. Came home got boys to bed and settled down with dh as cat came down and Billy attacked her :( she ran off and spent rest if the evening looking for her. No sign and now can't sleep :(

Morning all, just completed w3r1 and I'm amazed I managed to run for 3mins without the use of oxygen Smile

I was wondering what everyone's reason for starting the plan was? Mine was I promised myself Id be able to run at least a mile aged 40.

BIWI · 20/06/2013 08:17

Sorry to hear about your cat, cinnamon - but don't worry, cats are pretty hardy and I'm sure she will be back soon.

Well done on your time!

Bakingnovice · 20/06/2013 08:42

Aw cinnamon I hope your cat gets home ok. Well done on your run.

Pollydon - I wanted to run mainly to lose weight but also to increase my fitness.

BIWI · 20/06/2013 08:44

Pollydon - it was in response to a call-out from the Woolly Hug crew, to raise money for World Child cancer (a charity suggested by MrsDeVere, who lost her daughter to cancer). It's an extension of a training programme that I began 18 months ago in a bid to get fit, stave off the effects of getting older (I'm 53), as well as help with my weight loss/maintenance of my weight loss - I lost just over 2 stones last year. I have another half stone or so to go and am hoping that regular running will help me shift it.

queenjellybelly · 20/06/2013 09:40

Pollydon, I had more reasons to start than not so knew I should just bite the bullet and get on with it. Basically, wanted to lose weight, tone up, get fitter and improve my health. Lost my best friend to a heart attack recently when she was just 39 and definitely made me understand the importance of looking after myself. Running early morning before kids & dh are awake is my only option. Hubby's and my work commitments make it impossible at any other time. Would have loved to get to the gym or pool though to mix it up a bit but they don't open until later.

eminemmerdale · 20/06/2013 10:35

Oh no - hope the cat comes back - they do tend to know their way thuogh :( I started because a couple of ladies in local mumsnet sent out a plea for running buddies! I thought why not basically - have never been able to run ever! I have been a big swimmer for a few years now but suspended my gym membership as it wasn't worth it - could hardly ever get there - although I am returning at the end of this month so will swim again. Anyway, we all started off beautifully and then I seriously injured my knee which meantIi had to take a month off. By the time i restarted, they were well ahead so i decided to start again with a mum freind from school. She comes along sporadically but I am religioulsy doing it every other day. I am already noticing my legs a bit more shapely (actually dh commented, I nearly fainted!) and i feel loads better. It's a personal challenge and a two fingers up to the sporty lot at school (who were all my best friends) who could do 100 metres in 12 seconds whereas my pb was 22!!! I was never terribly sporty...

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 20/06/2013 10:37

QueenJelly- sorry about your friend, that's so scary at that age Sad

Just done W1R3, but for some reason it hasn't ticked it off on my app. Might actually do it again, rather than move on, as I'm going to struggle for the next one- think I left it too long between runs, but had a busy week at work so I've just not been able to fit it in. Need to get ready for work now, would rather sit with a cuppa!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2013 13:01

So nice hearing everyone's reasons for starting.

I was babysitting and found a c25k thread on mn while looking at active threads, never heard of it before. As I was loosing weight I thought I might as well start trying to be fitter too. No money so running was perfect as it cost nothing (although slightly more expensive now I've bought a better pair of trainers), I joined the thread and did my first run 3rd Jan 2012 and here I am!!!

OP posts:
CiderwithBuda · 20/06/2013 14:05

I started because its something I have always wanted to do but thought I wasn't fit enough to run. And I thought I was too heavy for my poor old knees. I lost weight so some of that excuse went I and started in April. Gave up after two runs as the weather was so bad. Started again 3 weeks ago and have graduated to week 2! My sister runs and we are going to New York next year for my 50th and we want to run in Central Park. I also want to lose more weight and tone up and then have something that wil help me keep the weight off.

Naebother · 20/06/2013 14:09

I'm thinking about starting this. Do you really need trainers to start with?

Would converse do to begin with?

BIWI · 20/06/2013 14:23

No - you definitely need good trainers.

CiderwithBuda · 20/06/2013 14:43

I agree with BIWI. If your trainers are not supportive and cushioned enough you run the risk of injury. Converse don't have any support so wouldn't be suitable.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/06/2013 15:57

My cat is home Grin
