Hope your DS had a good party cinnamon. Hope the injury heals quickly.

My DS took nearly a minute off his PB today at the parkrun - 26.15! I have no hope of catching him now. I was doing really well, pacing myself for a PB, when I was struck by the worst stitch I've ever had (including all my hockey playing years) for the last km. That is the penalty you pay for having cheesecake and beer the night before - but it was my birthday. Finished in 27.50

Hope everyone else had a run today.

Chopstheduck · 27/04/2013 21:11

Wow that is amazing! How old us your ds ?

Well done both of you, great times!

pennygallops · 27/04/2013 21:21

My DS has just turned 10. He loves the whole parkrun thing. We cycled there and back again, about 9k round trip. He loves the one to one time with me, the cafe afterwards, meeting people and trying to get PBs. He started in January has now knocked 6 and a half minutes off his time. I started in December and have knocked three and a half minutes off my original time.

Chopstheduck · 27/04/2013 22:22

That is so good! I have one ds ( out of three!) who likes running and he wants to go to the running track so I will go with him once he has a weekend free. He is 8 but way faster than me, on the school team. It will be good speed training for me!

Cristiane · 28/04/2013 07:40

Hello i did run 3 of week 1 yesterday. Do I really have to leave a day between each run? Because of childcare and work issues I want to run when I get te opportunity - I could today and I won't be able to tomorrow or Wednesday or Thursday probably...

Park run sounds cool

pennygallops · 28/04/2013 09:53

Hi cristiane well done on starting C25k (that's I how I got going). I didn't always leave a day in between, just like you it was a balancing act, mine is between work and children's activities. I now like to run 5 times a week, some of them with my DS so definitely no rest day.

parkruns are great, once you get to about week 7 or 8 you'll be able to manage one.

Cristiane · 28/04/2013 17:00

Thanks penny I'd love to try a park run. Would feel a bit silly about getting a sitter on a Saturday morning but actually it might be ok - I could ask a neighbour to watch the DDs and the run is very nearby so I wouldn't be gone long

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2013 19:53

Well done cristiane, you have to do what suits you. If you find you're ok without rest days after every run then that's fine. I did when I was doing c25k but don't alway now.

Good news, I went for a run with my friend today a bit slower than usual but did 4miles in 43 mins so not bad. My groin hurt but not too bad and I didn't limp afterwards and it feels fine now! So happy and hopeful that its finally healing!

Cristiane · 28/04/2013 20:26

cinnamon I think I'm some way off doing 4 miles in 43 mins, that's great well done! And must be awful to have had an injury so glad you are kn the mend

I plan to run Tuesday here at home and Wednesday if I can whilst I'm travelling on work or maybe Thursday morning if I can. Then Friday if possible too. Sorry for boring you all with my plans but I feel if I write it down here I am more likely to achieve it?!

lardybum · 28/04/2013 20:42

Thanks for the tips on preventing stitches, and glad your injury is healing cinnamon

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 28/04/2013 20:54

Hi, I've been lurking on this thread for a week but just wanted to post that I did my first run of C25K tonight, and I loved it! Which is saying something coming from a life long non-runner.

Thanks to all of you for the tips and motivation on this thread - you got me out of the door this evening (it really was the hardest part!).

UmBongo · 28/04/2013 21:30

Well done Cinnamon I am really pleased that you have managed a pain free run! I bet you are too!

I have done w4r3 tonight so by this time next week I will have done the 20 minuter for the second time in my life! (I got to the end of week 5 about 2 years ago, then my ankle was really painful, then I got pregnant!)

I too am a life long non-runner CoffeeandChocolate Well done on your first run. Keep at it, I am even beginning to [whispers] enjoy my runs, not just the after-effects!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2013 21:36

Well done CoffeeandChocolateplease! I was a life long non-runner until last January and then I started c25k :) I always looked at runners and thought they were crazy and now I've been driven mad the last few weeks not being able to do what I wanted running wise so things really can change!

Week 5 is what everyone worries about UmBongo, you've done it once so you know it's mostly mind over matter :)

I am going to do w2 r1 today , I feel a bit knackered but I know I will regret it if I don't do it today . Wish me luck.please , I could do with a kick .

cinnamongreyhound · 29/04/2013 07:32

Good luck travellingwilbury I've had some of my best runs when I really didn't feel up for going!!

travellingwilbury · 29/04/2013 10:21

Thanks cinnamon , I did it , and it was actually good . I really can't believe that I am enjoying this . Long may it last .
How are you ?

MrsYoung · 29/04/2013 14:06

Hi all, I just wanted to come on and thank you all for motivating me to start C25k. I did my first run today and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! It was this thread that got me out of the door today, so thank you all!

Chopstheduck · 29/04/2013 16:00

welldone mrsyoung and travellingwilbury!

So glad it is finally looking better for you cinnamon!

I feel rough. Had a manic weekend, and dd has kindly given me her cold. I have a sore throat and dripping nose. Ran 5k this morning, but took a lot of willpower not to stop and head home for chocolate!

JH1967 · 29/04/2013 16:15

Well done Chopstheduck you put me to shame, I tried W4r1 this morning and was abysmal! came home in tears, so frustrated. DH did point out that I did walk the dog up a very steep hill yesterday and my legs may be tired. But still feeling a bit down (and very achy)

Chopstheduck · 29/04/2013 16:31

JH1967, we all have rough days, and your dh may well have been right. I struggled last monday, didn't realise my legs hadn't quite recovered from the 14 mile walk I had done the day before!. It's surprising how it can hit you. Put it behind you and try it again tomorrow or weds.

yetanotherworry · 29/04/2013 19:39

Well done for sticking with the run, Chopstheduck. I wouldn't even have attempted to leave the house with a sore throat.

I did W2R1 today. After the second run. I could feel the aches starting and thought I'd end up walking some of the end runs but I didn't! I managed to run them all.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 29/04/2013 19:46

Well done MrsYoung, we are at the same point then! I am looking forward to my next run tomorrow, I never thought I'd say that. Got my Race for Life things through today, I've done it about 10 times but always walking - this will be the first year I run.

Hope everyone's aches, pains and colds are disappearing.

travellingwilbury · 29/04/2013 20:44

Yetanotherworry , we are at the same stage :) I will be off out again tomorrow as its my day off , I am looking forward to it which is stupidly weird .

rusmum · 29/04/2013 20:47

A still plodding on,,,, slowly! Done week 5/2 3 times, SCARED of run 3! ConfusedConfused

cinnamongreyhound · 29/04/2013 21:03

Well done travellingwillbury, MrsYoung and yetanotherworry!

Sorry you struggled JH1967, don't let it out you off have a rest and try again weds :)

That's one rare occasion I was stopped chopstheduck when I last had a cold, got the most horrendous stitch that I couldn't shift!

I did my parkrun route tonight, went out yesterday so didn't want to do too much but know I can't go again until weds. It was lovely, warm enough for short sleeves but I didn't get warm at all. Missed my buddy as her dh is working late but enjoyed a bit of Avril Lavigne that I haven't listened to for ages!
