how is your leg cinnamon?

I've not had much chance for longer runs, with the kids being off, and dh starts moaning if I disappear for too long. I've been doing 5-6k every other day though, and did a 9k at the weekend. Looking forward to next week though when the kids go back and I can run for longer. PB is down to 35 mins :)

I got a lovely blister on the bottom of my foot last week, sort of inside the arch of my foot - really nasty! Seems to be better now though, and I got some proper running socks. Apparently thick cotton wasn't a good idea.

Chopstheduck · 10/04/2013 08:43

Umbongo, I runtastic on my phone. If you have a smart phone the basic version is free. I am still at least two stone overweight and so burn about 550 cals doing 5k.

NurseEzzzaChapel · 10/04/2013 12:26

I?m back!

? and IT?S GRADUATION DAY!

I did W9R3 this morning so that?s me finished the plan. I can?t believe I actually saw an exercise program through!

It was a tough one today. I was due to finish the program during the park run on Saturday. On Friday night I really didn?t feel up for the park run, on Saturday I still didn?t feel up to it, but I foolishly made myself go anyway. I ran for less than 5 minutes before giving up and walking home. Sad Felt so glum I didn?t go out for my run on Monday either. Got out today though, but as I said, it was tough. I hung on for the 30 minutes and walked the rest of the way. Has anyone else had weeks like that?

Gonna try to just get out there and run my route three times this next week and never mind the time. I took note of the tree I got to at the 33 minute mark and will try to keep running until that point for the next week, then build my way back up to 5k again.

jchocchip, I?m a long way off the 50 shirt!

cinnamon, sorry to hear your leg is still impeding you. Those barcode things look fun to use though! Grin

Chopstheduck · 10/04/2013 13:38

well done Ezza! You have done fantastic.

I think the thing is that 5k in 9 weeks is incredible, and you are still building fitness, so there still can be off days. I got to 5k fairly quickly, but still had off days for a while after that where I couldn't quite manage it, and it's only been more recently where I know I can reliably run 5k every time without needing to stop to catch my breath or legs at all.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/04/2013 14:23

You've done really well NurseEzzaChapel, I still have bad runs and good runs. Sometimes I've just gone off a bit quick or I'm a bit dehydrated or it's just one of those things. I've had some of my best runs when I really haven't wanted to go and I've been mentally really unprepared it's just random sometimes! I wasn't running 5k but the end of c25k, finished and March and didn't run my first 5k until June. I just went out and ran for 30 mins and tried to get further each time, it was often hard at that time.
Congratulations on Graduating and enjoy the fact that you can run for 30 mins and longer!

Have just done Week 8/Run 3! It's weird knowing that I only need to run for another two minutes.

I couldn't get the MapMyRun app to work today, so I don't know how far I actually ran. Will try next time - which will be my first 30 minute run Grin I never thought I would get here, honestly.

How's your leg, cinnamon?

jchocchip · 10/04/2013 19:15

Well done nurseezza congratulations to you!! and Flowers!

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 10/04/2013 20:48

Well done Ezzza! Grin I know exactly what you mean about one bad run making you feel dispirited - it happens to me too. It really is so much about training your mind as well as your body, I don't think I appreciated that at the start. I think once you get your head round that idea though it helps a bit if you have a bad run, you can tell your subconscious you refuse to be defeated by it. And sometimes there just will be off days and bad runs - just don't beat yourself up about them. There will be a lot more good ones than bad ones and you have achieved such a lot already Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 10/04/2013 21:10

Better thanks BIWI but I still can't run :( I tried today again but although I ran without limping it was still very painful and I was too worried about doing damage as I'm very happy to be pain free during the day when walking around!

UmBongo · 10/04/2013 21:23

Well done Nurseezza I have just done W2R1, but with a bit extra running, 3 minutes last run not 1.5.

I like the idea of running (eventually) for 30 minutes and just seeing how far I get. Cos I don't have a smart gadgetty phone to tell me where I have been, and how many calories etc. Probably a good job as I would probably take the information that I had burnt 270 and go and eat 200 back again. In chocolate.

Debs75 · 10/04/2013 22:08

Didn't get chance to do W2R1 today as had an all day training day. I have however walked 20 miles this week, according to my weightwatchers pedometer, so I have had some exercise. I should be able to get out on Friday so hoping for a nice day

pennygallops · 11/04/2013 21:14

Hi guys, been away in The Lakes for the last week. Didn't do any running, but lots of walking. Back to it tonight, but I think my fitness has slipped a bit.
Well done NurseEzza on your graduation and running.

Nearly there BIWI!
And well done everyone else!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/04/2013 21:17

Did you have a nice break pennygallops? I think my fitness will have decreased too, gone from 15-18 miles last week to nothing this!

OP posts:
pennygallops · 11/04/2013 21:54

We had a lovely break thanks - great weather and I taught the children how to skim stones. I did take my trainers, but those hills and after a day out walking...I just didn't fancy it. Far less runners over there than at home.

I hope our fitness comes back quickly cinnamon - I think it will, we were doing quite a bit.

Chopstheduck · 12/04/2013 07:10

I'm sure you will be fine. I was worried after a week off at half term, and I was nowhere near your levels of fitness (still aren't!) but it was fine.

Glad you had a good time, pennygallops, sounds lovely. Please can you teach me to skim stones too?! Grin

pennygallops · 12/04/2013 09:05

chopstheduck it's all in the stone and the flick of the wrist. Smile

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 12/04/2013 19:12

What's everyone doing today? Have to admit I opted not to run this evening Blush due to a combination of DH just being back after a week away and the colour of the sky when I got home from work (dark grey). It's now raining stair-rods so I feel justified, but also strangely deprived Confused

BIWI · 12/04/2013 19:53

I didn't run today as planned - every time I had a 'window' with work, it was raining. And we're not talking ordinary rain. It was horizontal at times!

We're away tomorrow and Sunday, so the earliest I can run will be Sunday afternoon/evening.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/04/2013 21:31

We've had some amazing rain today! I tried to run this evening and managed 6 mins before it hurt too much. Pain was worse after but improving as the evenings going on. Looks like I won't be a parkrun tourist this weekend :(

OP posts:
fromheretomaternity · 12/04/2013 21:47

Evening all!

Went out this morning for my W3 run (think I am rather behind most of the others on this thread, but am enjoying being inspired by your stories). Got back just as it started raining. I kind of don't mind running in the rain, it's quite invigorating, but it was only a few minutes of rain at the very end so I wasn't completely drenched!

My right knee still worries me, it's not painful exactly but definitely can feel it. Am taking joint supplements and just ordered a neopropene knee brace online. So will probably wait till that arrives on Monday, then go out Monday evening.

DH can't quite believe I've been getting up at 6.30-7am and heading out for my walk/run but I can honestly say I really enjoy it, I love being out and about, and it's a little me-time which is very much otherwise lacking due to 2 kids + work!

pennygallops · 12/04/2013 22:15

Don't worry fromheretomaternity you'll soon be through the program and running like the rest of us. My left knee sometimes feels exactly how you describe - not painful, but something there. It doesn't hurt enough to stop me running. Might try some joint supplements. I too, like a morning run whilst the rest of the world is asleep.
I'm on rest day today - parkrun tomorrow. It's a shame you won't be running cinnamon. DS collects his 10 T-shirt tomorrow - he's very excited. We are cycling to our local parkrun!

UmBongo · 12/04/2013 22:55

You are ahead of me fromheretomaternity, I did W2R2 tonight. It is still COLD here, although the weather is supposed to be warming up at the weekend, but probably accompanied by the wet stuff.

Chopstheduck · 13/04/2013 06:48

aww that is a shame, cinnamon, I hope it is better soon. I'm in Norfolk end of May and really want to do that run, though not necessarily with park run. I used to tear up and down there on my bike as a kid, and go crabbing off the jetty at the harbour Smile

I really wanted to run yesterday, but had run the day before. It was raining really heavily too, so didn't get out on my bike neither. Hoping to go later today when dh gets home (jsut left to visit his gran in hosp), maybe do a forest run.

pennygallops · 13/04/2013 11:37

Well, we cycled to the parkrun today Smile. No PBs but managed to do it in about 28mins. It was a lovely sunny morning, a little wind chill but good conditions. We had fun.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/04/2013 14:50

I was an evening running until I started going on my clubs Saturday run just before Christmas and now I love running in the morning. It's very peaceful and you have the rest of the day to feel virtuous and full of energy! Hope your knee doesn't develop into anything more fromheretomaternity.

Yarmouth is our closest seaside but I have never been to gorleston until yesterday Chopstheduck! We are back today after 2 hours in the caravan park pool and late lunch. Ds2 is sleeping so I'm in the car at the minute with him while dh, dss and ds1 are on the beach. Plan is to attempt another short run tonight, even if its 6 mins rather than 5 as groin feels back to what it was yesterday before I ran so I'm assuming I haven't done lasting harm.

Yay for your cycle and run pennygallops, it was a lovely morning here for a run. Glad you both enjoyed yourselves.

We have a handicapped 5k series with my club starting weds, really hoping I will be able to take part.
