I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Welcome to the thread! I'm a fairly recent graduate of C25K. I was told to leave rest days between running, but you can do other low-impact exercise like walking, swimming, yoga etc. As Chopin said, it's important to rest to help prevent injuries.

I understand the temptation though, I can't wait until I'm fit enough to run more often. I think when you are more used to it it's OK to run more often but to do slower, shorter recovery runs in between longer runs.

jellybrain · 07/05/2013 14:45

Ok will stick to walking on alternate days then. I'm impatient to get going but it's probably best to stick with the programme Grin that means I can do w2run2 on Thursday.
I cycle about 2 miles to work 3 days a week so I will still be doing something even on my rest days.

wibblyjelly · 07/05/2013 18:39

Halfway through week 3. Found it hard, but that's because I stupidly got to an uphill part for one of the 3 minute runs! 2.21 km though Grin

FoundAChopinLizt · 07/05/2013 18:49

Wibbly I often find myself at the bottom of a hill/flight of steps for my 90s recovery...

At least we're pushing ourselves, I suppose Grin

dementedma · 07/05/2013 21:03

Week 5 run 1 done but it was a struggle. Doesn't help that there are bloody hills everywhere.
This is going to be a tough week....

jellybrain · 07/05/2013 22:41

Wibbly and Founda I think there must be something weird going on with hills. I too find myself at the bottom when it's time to run.

sparkle12mar08 · 08/05/2013 08:05

Morning all! I have w5 r2 coming up today and am looking forward to seeing how I manage the 8 minute sections, because I'm slightly nervous anticipating Friday's 20 minute run! It's also raining here and this will be the first time I've ever run in the rain so that will be very different.

On hills, I have a short 400m hill that I usually end up doing at the start of my final run sections. It's good in a way because I try and maintain my rhythym and I find that my pace doesn't slow particularly much, I think it helps build your stamina for the end of longer runs.

FoundAChopinLizt · 08/05/2013 10:33

Back from wk5r1...I am skipping forward to keep up with running class. I am covering more distance per 5 min run, though.

The 'homework' was meant to be 4x4mins with 3mins walking breaks, so I did 3x5mins on the podcast. Tomorrow night's class is 4x5mins, so it steps up faster than the podcast. I can't wait until I can do 20 mins solid, so I can just put on my own playlist and not think about times so much.

It was raining today, but actually lovely to feel cool rain on my hot sweaty face! Also ran in shorts for first time, exposing my glow in the dark legs!Wink

sparkle12mar08 · 08/05/2013 10:44

I'm just back too - the 8 mins seemed perfectly fine, I really surprised myself! So I'm now happily anticipating friday instead of bricking myself Smile I'm going to take it fairly slowly first time though and may repeat the day to gauge a slightly quicker pace that I can actually sustain for the whole time. Does anyone have a pacing app, something that beeps or vibrates to set a pace for you? Does anything like that exist?

FoundAChopinLizt · 08/05/2013 13:10

There is something called mapmyrun which analyses your run once youve done it, I think. My itouch doesn't have gps but dhs does and he uses a bike version.

sparkle12mar08 · 08/05/2013 13:31

I have endomondo which I use for after the event, I guess I want something like am actual metronome, to count the beat out for me? Will have a look round, cheers.

HunterWellies · 08/05/2013 18:23

Hi everyone :)

I did w8r2 this morning. I set myself the aim of going a bit faster, think I knocked about 10-15 seconds off each km, so that's good (I think).

One more 28 minute run then the big 30!

LIZS · 08/05/2013 18:27

Need to rejoin , I lost no weight last time I tried and floundered but really need to do something now as am the heaviest and lardiest I have ever been Blush Can anyone tell me how to download the app onto my phone please.

EauRouge · 08/05/2013 18:35

What kind of phone do you have? If you've got an Android then just go to the playstore and look for running apps. There are loads of different ones. I used RunDouble, I think you have to pay but it's only a quid. There are other free ones, I think, but I don't know if they are any good. Or you can just download the podcasts from the NHS site here but the music is really crap.

Good luck!

5madthings · 08/05/2013 18:39

I use the zenlabs ones, they are free and follow the same routine as the nhs one with the bonus that you can play your own music with it :)

LIZS · 08/05/2013 18:45

yes Android . ok will investigate and what about the one that measures how long/far ?

5madthings · 08/05/2013 18:50

I use mapmyrun also free and i can run it in the background with the couchto5k by zenlabs. I am doing the zenlabs 10k app now :) it carries on at the end of the 5k one basically and builds you up to running for an hour.

EauRouge · 08/05/2013 19:05

I think most running apps do that. I used RunDouble for C25K and now I use RunKeeper. They both measure distance, pace and time and do a breakdown of pace over the whole distance. It also saves the data so you can compare how you've improved over time.

5madthings · 08/05/2013 19:09

Yes mapmyrun does that, it has a function to tell.you how you are doing as you are running ie distance, time and pace and split pace. You can tutn it on/off.

Saves the workouts and routes etc. They are great apps :)

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 08/05/2013 21:14

Just back from W4R1 and it nearly killed me. No idea why, I was fine last week. I made the mistake of wearing old maternity leggings which rode down exposing my giant granny pants every time I broke into a run, fetching!

wibblyjelly · 09/05/2013 17:36

Am waiting for dh to get his arse in gear and go out for his run first before I go out. This has consisted of playing on the laptop, and then deciding he needs new music on his phone. What's the betting it starts raining by the time I get to go out ?

wibblyjelly · 09/05/2013 17:38

And he is now watching The Chase!

FoundAChopinLizt · 09/05/2013 20:56

Just go Wibbly!

jellybrain · 09/05/2013 21:01

Dragged myself out of bed early (6.30) this morning to do w2r3. Set off, pressed start etc and listened to Troy(the Aussie bloke on runmeter) I waited and waited for his cue to walk... Turns out I had that app set to w4.r1 doh! After scrolling through to see what was in store for me. Anyway I lived to tell the tale and actually felt pretty good at the end of it.Blush

wibblyjelly · 09/05/2013 21:14

I went Found but had to wait for dh to come back to look after dsGrin .
Found it really hard going, but it was raining and windy. It has made me slightly nervous for week 4 though.....
