I can't believe I managed to do it! I am very unfit and about 3 stone overweight. But I did it Grin

Just wanted to share with someone as I'm very proud of myself at the moment Blush

Well done business. Agree that running in a group is different and second sticking to your own pace. In a race for life you will find yourself catching up and overtaking all those who whizzed past you at the start and who are now walking.

wibblyjelly · 05/05/2013 10:48

Congratulations Business!
I've just completed W3 R1. Really enjoyed having a larger chunk of running to do, made the time go much faster!

dementedma · 05/05/2013 14:57

Just completed week 4 run 3 so facing up to the dreaded week 5! Rest day tomorrow then we will tackle W5R1 on Tuesday

viewwitharoom · 05/05/2013 15:07

Hope its ok for me to join in. I am interested in what works post c25k to keep up motivation. I completed this last year and then lost my way a bit with the running petering out fairly quickly! I restarted in March once the days got longer and will do W7R1 tomorrow. Just need to plan a little for beyond week 9 so I don't do the same as last year. No parkruns or race for life nearby (am Northern Isles) but will look into these when we travel south on holiday in July.

EauRouge · 05/05/2013 15:18

There must be other races you can do, have you looked at Runner's World or The Running Bug? They have lists of races, you can search by postcode. Otherwise how about doing a 5-10k training programme? Or if you're in a rural area I bet there are loads of places to go trail running.

viewwitharoom · 05/05/2013 15:38

Will have a look around at those two you have mentioned and I think a 5 to 10k plan is the next step. I like getting the encouraging comments from Laura although the music isn't that great! I think my problem is that I run on my own ( well with the collie ). There are running clubs here but I live some way away from the meeting points and to be honest I find the best times for me to run are very early or late evening! I do have lovely places to run though and if the sum ever comes out it will be perfect!

CoteDAzur · 05/05/2013 16:03

Hi everyone. May I join you? I'm an ex-graduate of C25K who was benched for over a year due to a hip injury. Now I'm slowly doing C25K again.

I finished W5 today. Roll on W6 Smile

Hulababy · 06/05/2013 08:16

Week 2 day 1 later this morning - eek!

sadlovedgirl · 06/05/2013 11:07

Got up early this morning to do w4 r1 I normally run in the evening but decided to get it out of the way cos its DD2's 2nd birthday, and I have to say I really enjoyed it! I wasn't looking forward to the 5 minute running stretch but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, thinking positive really helps and I felt great afterwards knowing I'd achieved something I couldn't do a few weeks ago!

FoundAChopinLizt · 06/05/2013 11:28

I'm really starting to feeling the benefits of this fitness lark now. More energy and just feeling positive about life. Also legs feel like a new pair in a good way.

One of my friends could not believe I'd taken up running, she just kept saying 'you ARE joking?!' Several other people I know well have not recognised me running past even when I say hello, it's just so far from what they expect, they can't process it.

Wk4r2 complete, going faster now...discovered that a better arm action speeds up my legs, also not 'braking' going down hill helps-doh!

Am going to fit in wk4r3 before next class.

HunterWellies · 06/05/2013 18:38

Started week 8 this morning, a 28 minute fast walk run! I feel much better about it than I did a week ago. I felt I could go faster but I wasn't sure for how long. So, having finished all 28 minutes at today's pace, I will try and step it up on Wednesday. Just an increment at a time...

With week 9 looming I'm wondering what to do next. I know I want to build up to a 5k run, then work on doing it in a faster time, but I notice a lot of people lose motivation after they finish the programme. Maybe something with a proper structure would suit me? Not there yet anyway, just thinking out loud I guess!

A weight-loss running programme might be good, but I have to finish breast feeding first I think. It seems almost impossible to do both at the same time! I am just about 3 pounds lighter than when I started c25k. I thought it would be more like 7-10 by now but I'm so starving all the time (and tired) I struggle not to snack.

Oh well, one step at a time eh?

EauRouge · 06/05/2013 18:43

Are you just using weight to measure your progress? I haven't lost any weight (well, maybe a pound depending on when I weigh myself) but I've dropped a dress size.

I do like working towards a goal and I think I will enter races regularly and try to improve my times. I don't think I'll have the time to work towards a marathon or even a half but I think training towards a 10k is definitely doable.

Hulababy · 06/05/2013 19:01

Did run 1 of week 2 earlier. Yet again morning after drinks night before - not a good idea! Hard going for first half but second half better.
Found mapmyrun so apparently we did 3.6km today and did about 12.35 min miles for the running bits. Not fast but geting there slowly

HunterWellies · 06/05/2013 19:05

Good point Eau. I haven't measured but my waistband in looser. So, maybe I'm doing better than I thought?

I have a medium-term aim to start doing park runs when I can do 5k, and a vaguer plan to do 10k next Spring.

Hulababy · 06/05/2013 19:07

There is another set of podcasts for 5k+ apparently

HunterWellies · 06/05/2013 19:13

Thanks Hula, and well done on your run :)

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 06/05/2013 19:20

Hi everyone, well done on progress. Have any of you run with a hangover yet? Is it worth it? W3R3 is waiting for me but I still feel awful after a big night out and waking with my babies at 7am..

FoundAChopinLizt · 06/05/2013 20:52

Ran with hangover today, no problem!

I'm aiming for 10k next March, 5k next month.

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 06/05/2013 21:01

Thanks Found, just did it and it hurt but not horribly and I feel better (and smug) now. Slightly in awe of you training for a 10k! Feels impossible to imagine I'd ever get there.

Theyoniwayisnorthwards · 06/05/2013 21:02

I'm about a week behind you, maybe I need to start dreaming bigger! Smile

FoundAChopinLizt · 06/05/2013 21:20

The only way
I'm sure the 10k is doable ten months away...my dd (14) did one recently which really inspired me. She's my best coach!

wibblyjelly · 06/05/2013 21:50

I've been considering signing up for a run, as I think I'll need more of an incentive other than being able to run after my son when he starts walking. My sister did this last year, and is planning on doing it this year as well, so I think this may be the one....

EauRouge · 07/05/2013 08:38

That looks so much fun. I thought about signing up but the entry fee is a bit pricey for me. Maybe I'll do it next year.

jellybrain · 07/05/2013 14:16

Can I join in tooGrini'm not using the Nhs podcasts but have downloaded an app called Runmeter which seems to work the same way.
I started last Tuesday and have also run fri, sat, sun and today. I haven't really settled into a pattern yet in terms of pace. Though really want to build stamina first. Finding it ok though.
If the plan is based on 3 times a week is it ok to do more? I figured if I'm walking the dog anyway I might as well go for it.

FoundAChopinLizt · 07/05/2013 14:19

Welcome!

C25K and my running class teacher say leave a day between runs. You can walk on the off days, in fact it's encouraged.

I think the rest day is supposed to help your body, especially muscles to recover and prevent injuries like shin splints developing.
