Support/lust after our lads cycling in the Tour of Britain here!

We watched Team Sky and Brad win the Tour de France, we're watching Froome in the Vuelta (bless him) and we took an Ode to the Olympic Time Trial (which inspired them to win medals Grin).

And now (to fill the massive hole left by the superb Olympics and Paralympics) from Sunday we can watch Team Sky and Team GB cycling heros here in the UK!

I thought I'd start this thread for lusting supporting our team faves and having a laugh.

TOB starts this Sunday 9th Sept!

TOB website here

Stage 1 Ipswich to Norfolk - Live on ITV4 from 1.45pm with highlights at 8pm .

The rest of the stages are also live everyday on ITV4 with highlights at 7pm.

Well, true, but I daren't get my hopes up too high! I will spend the whole race anxiously bouncing up and down and feeling sick anyway. Do we know if it's going to be televised?

I'm going to Cardiff for the weekend so will probably be desperately following via twitter. I know 'they' say that it's not a course suited to him but I still think ToB was just a training ride and he won three stages, could have been more. When he passed us just short of the summit of the final climb he was still chatting happily with Bernie, looked very comfortable. (Not that I could hear what he was saying because my friend was jumping up and down squeeing in my ear Grin)

About half a day late but YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

champagne a poppin

Overall Winner JTL GB
Stage Winner Cav GB
Peter Williams and Kristian House won the sprint and king of the mountains titles respectively to ensure a British clean sweep of the individual jerseys.
How brilliant is that!

My respect for Cav is renewed after he got a puncture and had to make his way all the way back to the front.

I think the WC are on Eurosport. I've got it recording. I think it is on live though rather than a highlights programme.

Are we carrying on with this Thread for the WCs then ladies/cycle nuts?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he could have done that hill better, and ensured he no longer had to wear the gold jersey (he loves his stripes!) not sure if he meant to end up 12mins back though!!

There are a lot of strong competitors for the worlds, but it is also the end of the season and a lot of them are absolutely shattered - look at jens voight and David millers tweet bless their old legs!!

So is JTL going to sky? Is that what all the insinuations are?

Seashells - The rumors are that he is going to Sky but he was quite illusive in the post race interview.

re Cav, I was disappointed at the 12 min back incident but he made up for it on Sun in my eyes. DH thinks I was harsh on him, especially after such a tough year and helping wiggo so well as a domestique in the TdF still love wiggo best. Best of luck to him in the WC's.

I think the presenters basically said JTL was headed to sky, he was staying tight lipped himself, he's a very exciting talent, not just good on the bike but tactical too. Where will Cav end up then? I have to say I was very pleased when he was in the rainbow jersey again the day we saw him, wouldn't have been the same if he was in that vile gold creation.

It was a fantastic Tour of Britain and utterly amazing that so many people got behind it. The difference in the crowds from when we went only 2 years ago was incredible. Although it did turn my friend and I into shocking old hand snobs, we were working out who knew what by whether they could pronounce the surname 'Knees' properly Grin Blush

It's going to be on the BBC?! WICKED Grin

I'm away from tomorrow evening until Thursday so will miss the TT, but will catch the road race! Oh dear though it will clash with the formula one, arrrrgh. I suspect it's going to be F1 on the ipad and the cycling on the telly next weekend - so exciting!

I was in the bookshop today and looked at all the photos in Boy Racer. There's the most adorable picture of Cav as a toddler, and he actually is recognisable despite being a gorgeous little bowling ball of a boy. SO CUTE. I would have bought it (because the first chapter was pretty readable), but I suspect DH might get it me for our anniversary, or possibly my birthday, so am going to hold off for a while...

Okay, so trawling through the BBC sport website, following links, I've come across this. I challenge you to watch it and not smile, he really does have an infectious giggle. And especially at the end, I predicted his school report content!

I wonder what his REAL embarassing moment is though - that one's clearly chosen to be child-safe...

I've already lined that up for DH's Christmas present, plus the Brad one (I'll refrain from reading them first)!

Did you realise JTL couldn't race for 3 years as he had Epstein Barre virus.....no idea what it does to you, but it's amazing that he's got back to such a level of fitness, but what a shame that he's lost those 3 years.

LostInWales · 17/09/2012 18:21

Wow frosty, I think that's going to be my favorite fact of the day. I was wondering how he had become relatively old before he really came to the fore, Epstein Barr being the posh name for Glandular fever or 'kissing disease' as we charmingly called it at school Wink. Really wipes you out though.

That Cav clip is delicious, he was ace doing the BBC comentary as well, they started doing those little 'Cavsplains' (?sp) sections where he tried to explain complex cycling stuff and he giggled away merrily then.

They were CavFacts, Lost! The "sextathlon" had me in bits Grin

Yes, I read about JTL - apparently he spent some of that time working in a cycle shop, which amuses me. He'll be able to be his own mechanic!

frostyfingers · 18/09/2012 08:38

I didn't know that it was the fancy name for glandular fever - certainly sounds better!

Love that Newsround interview - he looks so embarrassed and awkward, but so cute......

I'm going to look for those CavFacts again.

Morning cyclefans. The news today is that Froome is not doing the WC time trial to focus on the road race...is getting Cav to win their aim we wonder???
Hopefully yes!

Neither Froome of Wiggo contesting worlds time trial. Had a brief awful thought that it might not be Cav but Froome who was going to get team support but it was just a moments lapse. Go Caaaaaaav!

frostyfingers · 19/09/2012 13:05

I'm beginning to wonder what the plan is - are Brad and Froome likely contenders for the jersey do you think, or will be they be giving Cav a chance?

The tension is building here!

Sad news that Victor Cabedo who rode in the ToB had been killed today whilst training. Don't know what happened but awful tragic news.

That's terribly sad - he was only 23.

Awful news. Obviously don't know the circumstances but had hoped that all the interest in cycling at the moment might mean that other road users may become a bit more thoughtful about how vulnerable cyclists are. Very very sad.

LostInWales · 19/09/2012 17:10

That's so awful, I had a quick google and it looks like he was coming downhill on a practice ride and was hit by a car and fell into a ravine. How utterly, utterly tragic. RIP.

Thanks Lost will read that in a bit.

Did anyone see the Road To Glory last night. Team Sky are so good. There was lots about Cav and his role in the team. Really interesting.
