what shall i wear if its raining? i don't really want to have to wear my rain jacket (although have trained in it quite a lot). I wanted to just wear shorts and vest but am worried il get cold if i have to walk any towards the end. but don't want to end up running most of the race with it tied around my waist if it stops raining or i get too hot

any tips?

I have no idea!but ive been wondering the same thing. Not for a maranthon but just a 10k.in the blurb it says arrive an HOUr befroe. But i will get cold standing about for all that time beforehand.

And it says " come by public trnasposrt, no parking blah blah blah" . But are you supposed to run with a belt with house keys, bus fare, inhaler etc etc in it and a jacket /fleeece tied around your waist??????

Hopefully an expert will coem along soon to advise us Grin

DH is running it for the second yr in a row. I am worried about what to dress the DS's and myself in. Grin

You will be given a large bag at registration you can put your stuff in before the race begins and then its taken by lorry to the end.

In terms of waiting for the start and getting cold loads of runners wear bin bags which they then rip off and throw to the ground at the start. According to DH the adrenaline buzz is enough to keep you warm. But this is from the man who in the snow ran in shorts, nutter.

Good Luck!

supernannyisace · 19/04/2012 20:14

As above. Ihave been reading up on running a marathon and lots of runners use a bin bag -which can then be discarded once the run actually starts.

chocoroo · 19/04/2012 20:16

When I did the Great North Run lots of people wore old t-shirts and discarded them at the start.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 19/04/2012 20:17

Binbag! Genius, I'd been wondering what to do for dd who is also running. The metcheck forecast doesn't look too bad for the morning so we might be OK..

SixtyFootDoll · 19/04/2012 20:58

I did reading half and lots of runners wore bin bags to keep warm at the start. Maybe carry one to stick on if it rains then chuck.

Kristina2 · 19/04/2012 21:20

Thanks that very helpful. I dont mind getting wet while im running but its aftrewards. Im used to running from my house so these things never occur to me-i just come in and stetch and jump in the shower. Luxury!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 20/04/2012 16:46

Take an old sweater for the start that you can dump at the side when you start running. A bin bag is a great idea if it's wet.

Stick some crocs/comfy sandals and a fleece in the bag you hand in so when younfinish you can get warm and comfy. I was so sore after and would have done anything to slip out of my trainers. Pack plasters too. When I finally got my trainers off I couldn't get my sandals on because my feet were so sore.

It's very unlikely you will get cold running, much more likely to be too hot.

I had a running belt for phone and some money and a gel belt for gels and jelly babies.

Arrange a meeting point too. The end will be ridiculously busy and the mobile phone network will be down. Dh and I arranged to meet under 'x' butnit was too busyntomfind each other. He managed to text me and said he was under a treeHmm There were loads of trees.....

Good luck to all running. Best advice is to enjoy it! It's an amazing experience, I never forget turning the corner and running over tower bridge, it was unbelievable!

juicychops · 20/04/2012 18:09

hi everyone i got my running number today from excel its all getting exciting now! I got a poncho from my charity which is just a more glam bin bag so will wear that over the top. Il try and find an old jumper that i can dump - might try and find a cheap one at the charity shop tomorrow. I think Il still just run in my vest and shorts Hopefully Il be ok. Il pack warm clothes to put on afterwards. Im nervous!

We're getting our number tomorrow, she's 40585. Maybe we could share numbers so we can track other runners on Virgin's site?

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 20/04/2012 18:20

We're swinging from excitement to nerves back to excitement at the minute.

juicychops · 20/04/2012 19:07

i didn't realise u could track numbers? Im 10094 starting in blue zone

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 20/04/2012 19:51

We're red. I didn't realise you could track either until a colleague asked for DD's number so they could track her then we got an email from our charity today confirming the fact (provided of course we can get a signal in London on the day)

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 21/04/2012 07:40

Another tip.....

Get to the start early and use the loo's a couple of times. The queues get a bit ridiculous nearer the start time and they are unisex portaloo things so can be a bit revolting by then anyway.

Good luck!

I feel excited and I am not runningBlush Do come back and tell us all how you got on please. I love reading people's race stories.

supernannyisace · 21/04/2012 07:48

I am overexcited about this - and I'm not running either!!

Looking forward towatching you all tomorrow!!

Good luck.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 21/04/2012 08:35

Excited? I haven't slept all night and I'm not running! I am so bloody nervous for her, is that normal?

MrsSnaplegs · 21/04/2012 08:45

Looking forward to watching this
Can you all pin a bag of Bear to your vests? Grin

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 21/04/2012 11:00

Another tip if like me you suffer from ahem.....digestive issues. Immodium. I didn't try in training because I didn't want to block myself up for a week so took a risk and took it on the day but it did the job and I had none of the usual issuesBlush

The queues for the loo's on the course were really long and running against the clock, I was stopping for no man or bodily functionGrin

I can't wait to watch it on the tv. I've run today so will be sticking my feet up and watching the elites compete for the Olympic slots, swell as everyone else doing their thing. My sister spotted me on the live coverage last year, trundling over tower bridge at a very slow paceGrin

BeaOnSea · 21/04/2012 11:04

Good luck!

Will keep an eye out for you Smile

juicychops · 21/04/2012 13:18
