Ive started this for all of us crazy enough to sign up for a race and then needing a little support and motivation with ongoing training up to the race. :-)

I'll be doing the great north run in September

Leeds Half for me on 13 May! Yikes!

I need some support - my longest run so far has been 10K. I did two 10K runs last week on my own - so am dedicated. Just need to up the mileage!

HowlonguntilFriday · 12/04/2012 19:32

Count me in! Cardiff in October. Just tried first run - 2 miles! Some way to go yet but I survived.

supernannyisace · 12/04/2012 19:45

2 miles is good for a first run!

good on ya!

Idocrazythings · 12/04/2012 22:09

Great stuff! I'm definately going to try 5km this weekend now- have been putting it off for way too long. I'll have to get my head around miles I think :-)

Oh so nice to see everyone on here. Ido - I like to think in Km on an "I'm finding this hard" day, miles on an "I'm finding this easy day" - like eugh I don't feel like running, but I'll do 5km sounds like a long way and a very good achievement, whereas 3 miles just doesn't justify how hard I've worked IYSWIM. Also the Great North Run is fab, you'll really love it.

Supernanny - I'm also doing a half on the 13th may. Can't wait!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 13/04/2012 01:16

I'm doing the Brooklyn Half on 19 May

Supernanny and Dr, looks like you will be first to go. Keep up posted on your training!

camdancer · 13/04/2012 07:32

I'm doing Ely in September
I've just had a week off - DD2 wasn't sleeping so I couldn't get up at 6am to run. Tomorrow it starts again with 5km.

The Great North Run is great. I'm very jealous.

supernannyisace · 13/04/2012 07:51

The Brooklyn Half looks more exciting route than mine around Leeds :) I had to have a peek.

Just back from an early morning 3 miles with a friend. We meet at 7am - and it takes us about half an hour. It's a bit of a pain to get up at 6.15 - so I can scarf a slice of toast - but worth it - as now my day is free.

Shower time first!!

Idocrazythings · 13/04/2012 16:35

I've been doing boot camp to get my strength and fitness up; but the Only times I can do it are 6am (eek) on a Friday and 7pm on a Tuesday. Let me tell you 6am is not my friend- neither is boot camp actually. Pretty tired now and counting down the hours till the kids can go to bed. :-)

OP posts:
supernannyisace · 13/04/2012 18:13

Ooh - I have always quite fancied the boot camp thing. there aren't any near enough to me though to make it doable.

I try and do other training in and amongst - the 30 Day Shred gets my abs strong - and helps with movement I think. But I can't fit it in always - and it is hard at first - gives me muscle pains bad enough to stop me running/walking. Hmm...

parkrun in the morning. That is worth getting up for! I need to beat my PB.

Idocrazythings · 13/04/2012 19:16

The boot camp is really good; the guy who does it is a running coach too. He focusses a lot on your running style and does a lot of exercises to strengthen you specifically for running. I haven't been game enough to tell him about my GNR aspirations yet though as he might laugh (ive only been going about 3 weeks).

I'm a bit of a sucker for program's and things as well though - your 30 day shred looks good (and it's on sale in amazon- I googled it)- how long is it for every day? I'm thinking about revisiting couch to 5k though- that's what got me into running in the first place.

KristinaM · 13/04/2012 21:16

30dayshredis about 20 mins a day. Though i take another 5 mins to stretch properly at the end

DrSocks · 14/04/2012 07:17

I'd highly recommend Shred too - you feel like you've had a really good workout in a relatively short space of time.

Shovelling porridge into my gob at this antisocial hour to go and get [whispers] 10 miles out of the way. Was meant to go last night when it was lovely and sunny, but was just too tired. Now it's grey, raining and a bit misty. That'll teach me. Wish me luck!

DrSocks · 14/04/2012 09:19

Well that didn't go brilliantly. It was more downpour than drizzle, by 6 miles I was just too soggy so had to come home. Ah well I'll try again on Monday... trainers in the tumble dryer and off out for bodypump in a bit.

Idocrazythings · 14/04/2012 15:09

Oh dear! Hope they dry quickly! I've only ever had to run in the heat (and worry about the sunscreen drips into my eyes) so not sure how I'll go in wet weather!

snowybun · 14/04/2012 23:00

I have signed up for Swanage half marathon my first one. Furthest run so far 6 miles which was part of the route from corfe castle back to swanage that was hilly!!!

snowybun · 14/04/2012 23:01

sorry should have said that is in July.

golemmings · 14/04/2012 23:10

Do you take lightweights too? I've recently graduated from c25k, did a 5k bmf event last month, bought shred which is protecting the top of the telly from dust and I'm doing the 2 castles 10ks in June. I'm managing to run about every other week ay the moment and I need someone to kick me up the arse every now and again...

camdancer · 15/04/2012 07:04

Ok, I'm going out for a run. I can't decide whether to do 2km, 5km or 7km. Will probably do 7 just to get out the house for longer! It's 0.5 degrees though, so got to find my gloves and hat. Brrrr.

DrSocks · 15/04/2012 08:02

Good luck Cam and have fun! Sounds like it will be a bracing one.

Cross training for me here today... monster sesh spin, pilates, body pump and cx works. I'll deserve a massive lunch after that little lot I think!

camdancer · 15/04/2012 12:16

Did the 7km. It was lovely out - chilly but bright and dry. It wasn't fast, but I'm pleased I got out.

DrSocks enjoy your mega cross-training day.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 15/04/2012 14:04

Well done all of us Grin. Dr you are working very hard!

I didn't have much spare time yesterday, so just did 4 miles. As I was leaving DH kindly reminded me to push myself - so I went a bit faster than I might have done on a longer run. I'm a bit achey today, which is unusual for me, so I must have worked harder than I thought!

Am off to buy new running shoes later - I've only had my current ones about 6 months but they have lost their bounce and I noticed yesterday that the lining had worn through on one heel and was rubbing me. I bobbed into the running shop on my way back last night red faced and breathless to check their opening times today and could barely speak Grin.

This thread has also inspired me to get shredding again Smile. I did it all the way through last year, but then stopped over Christmas and didn't get going again. I've had a couple of half-hearted attempts but will give it a proper go again.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 15/04/2012 14:07

Hey supernanny, do you do one of the Leeds Parkruns? I did the Roundhay one a few weeks ago when visiting my parents. I really enjoyed it.

supernannyisace · 15/04/2012 17:28

Ihave been taking it easy this weekend. Just my parkrun yesterday - missed a new PB by 1 second. grr... :)

neither no I don't do it in Leeds - am in W Yorkshire though ;)

New running shoes for me this week too. I just checked and have had mine since July 2010 - so I think I deserve a new pair. they don't feel as supportive as they originally did. If I get them worn in now they should be good for my half marathon.
