Good luck to the RFLifers!

11.3 miles today in blustery wind and torrential showers. Didn't really enjoy it to be honest, but at least I kept going. 1 hr 33 in the end. Only a few weeks until I can join a running club and start learning how to do all this properly Grin

thecoo · 08/07/2011 15:47

Lol at Quenelle in sweaty shirt Grin

Had a slightly better run yesterday eve - bit faster and slightly longer though still nowhere near where I want to be.

Is 30 day shred harder than Nell McAndrew DVDs? Could do with some toning...

Good luck to those racing this weekend.

madeindevon2 · 08/07/2011 16:28

Hi peach! I used to live in Devon until I moved in my early 20's to the south east. Still lots of my family still there. I visit fairly often! I've only really got into running over past year so wanna keep it up... Only done one race a half marathon.. was planning next one when found out pregnant. I put on way too much weight in my last pregnancy so this time I'm trying to do things differently!

notyummy · 08/07/2011 17:34

Shred is a lot shorter than Nell McAndrew and less cardio involved, but more intense, with more 'OMG I am think I am going to DIE moments IME.' I could never stick with Nell McAndrews because they had so much running on the spot in that I got bored. I also rate Billy Blanks Bootcamp workout. Pretty tough - HOW many press-ups?!

sfxmum · 08/07/2011 17:41

Good Luck Madamecastafiori & Wheelybug & bonkers20 & anyone else I might have missed hope you all have a good one

happy running [hsmile]

squix · 08/07/2011 18:44

Blush Quenelle - oh dear - I can't wear my favourite shirt to work for the same reason.

Good luck, N4NNY, bonkers20, wheely, Madamecasatfiore and anyone else racing.

I had a lovely run this morning too - out first thing, early morning sunshine, did about 4 1/2 miles with some 5 min intervals at 5k pace - back for breakfast and of to work with a spring in my step.

futurity · 08/07/2011 22:04

Hmmm..am contemplating doing the shred over the summer holidays when I have more time to be in the house (with the kids) and have less chance to get out by myself.

DebiTheScot · 08/07/2011 22:54

sfx I was baffled for ages by your halloween smiley!

Shred is ideal for days like today when I had planned to go for a run but went to the pub for tea and ate a huge burger and didn't get home till 8.30 (late for wee boys). I'm still doing level 1 but have moved up from 400g tin of beans to 2kg weights. Most of it is fine apart from the press ups and 1 of the weights ones and the skipping (almost get cramp in calves every time). Not sure when to go up to level 2.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 09/07/2011 08:07

Ah... that's better! I was feeling a bit despondent about running last week (tapering) but went out yesterday with no plans just out for 20 mins then back for 20mins. Ended up doing 4 miles in 39mins which is fast for me and felt easy and fun. I am finally beginning to see that the half-marathon training has been working.

Also feel like a proper runner as bought myself some body glide (be careful when Googling this, it is very similar in name to various sex lubricants!). Does anyone else use this stuff?

drivingmisscrazy · 09/07/2011 08:42

chewytoffee - great stuff! I am away (DD visiting her dad and his family), so sharing a room with DD, too hot, mega headache, DD awake at 6.30. Everyone else in the house asleep Hmm have already done 2 hours solo childcare. Grrrr. And I wonder why my running doesn't improve.

sorry - just feeling a bit moany and hard done by

cestlavie · 09/07/2011 09:11

Oh yes, good luck all runners this weekend! Conditions look lovely for it here in London so hope it's equally lovely where you all are

DrNortherner · 09/07/2011 11:26

Morning all Smile Welcome to newbies.

A few racers I see tomorrow, good luck guys. Am chuckling at Quenelle in her sweaty shirt at work. At least you were sweating from physical exercise and not just a sweaty office bod Grin

We have had some horrendous weather here. Ds had an inset day yesterday so I was all set to run when dh got home from work, but just as he arrived home we had the most awful storm. Black skies, thunder and fork lightening. Now I don't mind running in rain but I am not that die hard Grin So I just got back from 7 miles, and tomorrow I am planning on doing 10. Just swallowed a fly whole on that run. Gross.

Happy running everyone Grin

MoshiMoshi · 09/07/2011 14:25

Yes, welcome to newcomers!

wheely - I have gone to Liquid Leisure at Datchet which is just by the M25 off the M4. I have not heard of the place in Ham?

sticky - well done and am pleased you seem encouraged. Stick around and keep it up and keep us posted!

DrNo - if you will live in Yorkshire... Smile

driving - I am guessing so could be totally wrong but think it is possible you could be a bit more selfish about sticking to getting your runs in and if you have scheduled runs, eg intervals or long runs, then to be pig headed about getting it done before everything else.

Ran with my dog for the first time today. I took her and my sister's dog on a 4.75 mile loop this morning while everyone was still asleep and then dropped the dogs off to do a further 8.25 miles. It was much faster without the dogs (7:45-8:10m/m compared to 8:45-9:15m/m) but I guess stopping to collect poo does that.

Looking foward to the race reports!

sfxmum · 09/07/2011 14:30

moshi & Wheely open water swimming in [[http://www.rgactive.com/ Ham]

sfxmum · 09/07/2011 14:30

Ham better

sfxmum · 09/07/2011 14:31

bit more direct here

DrNortherner · 09/07/2011 15:40

Moshi did you enjoy running with the dogs? As you know I always take mine, I do leave him at home when doing long training runs for a HM though, as you say, it makes you slower Grin Great excuse to stop and chuck sticks in the river I find.......

Peakrunner · 09/07/2011 21:19

Good luck to all race for lifers and anyone else racing this weekend!

I'm looking forward to a long club run tomorrow because I've been stuck in all week with poorly DCs including a night in hospital with DD who couldnt shake off the sicky bug and needed rehydrating (all back to normal now, phew). I need to get some fresh air in to my lungs.

I've ordered Shred dvd, summer holiday entertainment for the kids... watch mummy exercise!

DebiTheScot · 09/07/2011 23:00

poor juniorpeakrunner, that doesn't sound nice.

There's a lake near me where you can do open water swimming, my mad friend goes but has yet to persuade me! It's in Mychett which is not far from junction 4 of M3 so might be helpful for SW Londoners (although I guess Richmond would be better for you all).

I haven't run since my race on Wed, need to plan this week carefully as have the tri next Sunday. For the last one I did 4 or 5 runs straight off the bike and haven't done any this time. I just haven't had a chance to.
Today I cycled 25 miles back home from the rugby we were at in Twickenham (not the Middlesex 7s, the Harlequins RL game). Took 1hr 50mins and was into the wind all the way.

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/07/2011 04:15

Just about to pop off for my half. It cost me £1.50 to register Grin. Good luck everyone else.

drivingmisscrazy · 10/07/2011 08:37

good luck m&m! I am rapidly revising my plans - we're away, DD keeps waking up at 6am, and well, it's just not working out. I also realise that I run to keep fit and to keep my weight down, and for my mental health, and obsessing about times and paces is standing in the way of achieving these objectives. So next year I am going to keep it simple, and not do very many races - it's not what I'm at, really.

In any case, we are going to have 2 tiny children, so I need to be realistic (and no real childcare beyond 3 mornings a week).

sfxmum · 10/07/2011 09:35

Good luck master Smile

Driving I run for very similar reasons I have to be careful not to obsess and not to become too dependent on it. Running is great but it has to be one of the things that keep me together rather than 'the one'
Keep it pleasurable and challenging

Happy running

EmmaBemma · 10/07/2011 09:50

Morning runners! had a couple of days off this week, visiting a friend up north, then 4 miles yesterday and my long run today: 9.25 miles, in 1:25. Felt harder than last week, though I suppose it is the longest I've ever run, and my hip was giving me some trouble. Stupid hip. I don't know what its problem is, sometimes it plays up on shorter runs, sometimes not, and last week on my long run over the same route it didn't bother me at all - I don't know what that's all about.

Does anyone here take supplements for joints? Would you recommend them? I can never work out how reliable the evidence is for glucosamine & chonditroin etc, and they are very expensive. Omega 3 and cod liver oil are cheaper, but I haven't really done much research into those either.

Good luck to those running today.

Themasterandmargaritas · 10/07/2011 10:40

I survived and got a PB of 2.04. It was great fun, back after a roast lunch with a full report. Grin
