Congratulations peach!! Seems to be the year of the girls or maybe runners tend to have daughters rather than sons.... Wink

driving Your DD1 will be delighted with her little sister and fingers crossed all well with scan - I'm sure it will be. My DD2 and DD3 are inseparable (there's only 16 months between them though Grin) - I took some lovely photos of them today in the woods, must update my profile on here, they are so old now in comparison.

MoshiMoshi · 18/07/2011 20:55

Driving and peach - if you don't already have it try to buy the book, "There's A House Inside My Mummy". It was the only book about a baby on the way that I didn't mind reading over and over (and over!) again. It was great for my DS who was nearly 2 when DD1 arrived.

driving - That leg was seriously grooooosssssss!

EmmaBemma · 18/07/2011 20:58

Glad all's well peach, and hurray! though that sounds a really alarming ten minutes, and good luck for your scan on Wednesday too, driving. I'd be nervous too - all scans make me nervous - but I hope you get only good news.

My first dating scan with my younger daughter, the sonographer was ominously silent and so was my husband. Just as I had been with my elder daughter, I was convinced something was wrong. I couldn't see her screen from my position and was only aware of my husband squeezing my hand. After what felt like hours of staring through the gloom at the ceiling but was possibly Blush less than a minute, I eventually managed to whisper, through tears, "is there anything there at all?"...turns out she could, thank god, see the beginnings of my little girl - she just wasn't the chatty type.

fannybanjo · 18/07/2011 20:58

Moshi hope you don't mind me asking - how old are your DC? Smile

MoshiMoshi · 18/07/2011 21:14

fanny - DS is 8, DD1 is 6, DD2 is 4 and DD3 is 2. No twins so four pregnancies. And four natural deliveries (eek for my pelvic floor!)

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 18/07/2011 21:19

Hi all,

I realised that I should have added myself into the race list for RFL yesterday, so have done so at the bottom of this post.

I was quite tired for the race as we went to the lake district last week and did big cycle rides, climbed the old man of coniston and went swimming in coniston water. Can I just warn you that if you are thinking the Windemere wheel cycle ride is an easy ride - it isn't!! Essentially moutain biking which was even more fun with a large toddler on the back of the bike.

The RFL was good overall. Hilly for the first 2km, then fairly easy going. A little bit of rain but that was fine. I am a bit disappointed in my time of 36 minutes, I had wanted to be closer to 30 minutes. Although some of it was due to the fact I found DP just before the finish line and he refused to hand me DS for a sprint over the line holding toddler aloft triathlon stylie finish! Perhaps he thought I'd drop him ...

I just really enjoyed it and it is also very humbling reading everyone's signs on their back about loved ones.

I've entered a 10k for October and added this in below, so am looking to you lot to get me through! Also trying to decide which distance at the Blenheim triathlon to do next year. Sprint - more challenging field. Supersprint - shorter distance, more laid back and more likely to be able to talk some friends into doing it.

Sounds like everyone is running well, and congratulations to the ladies who had/are having scans x

fannybanjo · 18/07/2011 21:23

Moshi So you have similar to me but a 6 year old too.. Smile phew you must have your hands full. I have dd1 8, Dd2, 3 (4 soon) and DD3 2. You've 3 girls as well - I always say I run because it's the only valid excuse I get to be out the house for a couple of hours!! Older they get the longer my runs become.... Grin. Wouldn't change it for the world though - we'll never be lonely hey?? My pelvic floor is better after Dd3 than it was after Dd2 for some strange reason. All natural births too. However if I
Skip I do need to wear Tena Ladies GrinWink

DebiTheScot · 18/07/2011 21:37

Great news peach Smile and fanny I've got 2 boys.

My geeky mad friend who I did the tri with has analysed all the data and I've found what I'm good at! I was 4th in our category at the 2nd transition Grin.
I do have all you lot to thank for one stat though. In the last tri my bike and run positions were similar (2/3 down I think) and yesterday out of 41 I was 14th in the run and 27th in the cycle. I would not have improved that much if it wasn't for this thread.
(it is worth mentioning that there weren't any super speedy people in my race as there was a 'full' tri the same day so they were all in that)

I might be tempted to do Blenheim next year if I can get over water fear.

peachsmuggler · 18/07/2011 21:42

Thanks everyone. I've heard of that book Moshi, I'll look into getting it. DD asked the other day where the baby would come out of me and I said it would come out of...."my bits!!". I don't know what posessed me. Bits, indeed. Blush

fannybanjo · 18/07/2011 21:44

Debi bang goes my theory about runners having girls... Wink.

drivingmisscrazy · 18/07/2011 21:46

fanny I think it's the blokes wot decide about the boy/girl thing...

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 18/07/2011 21:55

you know you want to! Blenheim is a good one to start with. You could always try out some outdoor swimming beforehand, not sure where you are in the country (south maybe?), but Redricks Lake in Sawbridgeworth near Chelmsford is an outdoor swimming lake. I went there to get over swimming in a lake fear, and once I had managed to put my face under once, it was fine to b ehonest.

MoshiMoshi · 18/07/2011 22:04

Well done cherry! I would go for the sprint at Blenheim as the supersprint is really too short to do any of the distances justice. I think it took me about an hour and 25 when I did it a few years back do you aren't actually going for that long doing the sprint distance. It isn't cheap so you may as well get your money's worth!

Wheelybug · 18/07/2011 22:16

Can also recommend 'there's a house inside my mummy'. DD1 loved it (still does actually). What's your age gap going to be peach ? I have a feeling your dd (1!) is 3 so probably similar to mine ... just a few weeks over 4 years. Whilst its much larger than we planned its worked very well. They adore each other (when they're not hitting each other).

Have been doing battle with my new ipod this evening and eventually won. No more sharing an ipod with dh so no more bob dylan - yippee !!

drivingmisscrazy · 18/07/2011 22:42

our age gap will be 2 years and 10 months - there are a million reasons why...but I am happy with it actually, think it sounds pretty good

DebiTheScot · 18/07/2011 22:57

Can I do the supersprint swim and the sprint cycle and run? Grin I think I'd have to do sprint. As moshi says, you don't get your money's worth with the supersprint. It's blooming expensive.
I have a swimming lake (Mychett) about 1 mile from my house so no excuse really!

Oh and I think I've ground dh down on the bike thing! I think he has agreed that if there is any money left over after we book flights to New Zealand for next Easter I can have a road bike Grin

TheChewyToffeeMum · 19/07/2011 06:41

We had "There's a House Inside my Mummy" too - DD loved it. I can't help but squirm every time I read the line "But the door is rather tight" though!

I think I am succumbing to the post-race cold virus today - I was expecting this as I am one of those people who always gets a cold on the first day of my holiday. I have also had dreadful indigestion since the race - is this common?

My mum asked me if I was planning a full marathon next (she used to be a runner herself but never did longer than a half) AND I got a text from the race organisers saying they are doing a full marathon too next year. Is this a sign??

Driving those varicose veins have put me off my breakfast! (good luck for the scan)

fannybanjo · 19/07/2011 07:50

driving NEVER...!!! I thought we chose the sex just like The Beckhams....?? GrinWink

Tired today - did 4 mile recovery run last night. I think according to RW plan it's a 6 mile steady run with faster end. Now is "steady" a medium pace then....?

Can I ask how all you ladies eat before a long run - do you eat more carbs the night before etc?

MoshiMoshi · 19/07/2011 08:16

fanny - my steady pace is about 60 seconds slower than marathon pace (MP) and 90 seconds slower than HM pace, roughly. It should feel very comfortable but not be too easy. I reckon HR above 140 bpm but not hugely so.

peachsmuggler · 19/07/2011 08:16

Have ordered the book! Lol at the lady's "door" being tight, despite being on her second child... Smile

Wheely, the age gap will be 3 years and 8 months which is longer than I would have liked but will be good in terms of DD starting preschool and therefore I'll be able to give DD2 more one on one time, like DD had.

A shared iPod does not make for a good relationship I fear!

Chewy, it IS a sign, you should sign up!!!! Grin

Debi, well done on the transition triumph! I guess that's part of why people find tris so addictive. There are so
many areas you can work and improve on!

bonkers20 · 19/07/2011 08:41

I have 2 boys. One of 12 and one of 2. You can all appreciate how important it is for me to have time on my own pounding the miles away! Ooooh they test my patience they do. But there is nothing sweeter than seeing your toddler towards the end of a race :-)

ibbydibby · 19/07/2011 09:01

cherry have reposted list and added your race, as think you had c & p'd older version (only noticed because VLM2012 not on it, and that was added by Moshi fairly recently). Hope that's ok.

Thanks Moshi!!

I think I'm going to enter a local 5k, it's end of August so probably good to fit a short race in so I can see if my training has helped... I've only ever done a Race for Life years ago so GNR is (madly) really my first race. I know most people tend to start with 5 and 10 K races but I entered GNR on a whim and NEVER thought I'd get in....Blush. My plan was to do couple of 10k this year but it's not materialised.

EmmaBemma · 19/07/2011 09:46

5.10 miles this morning at hm pace: 44:31. I've noticed that now I'm doing my physio exercises as a warm up, my first mile is about 30 seconds quicker than it used to be when I didn't warm up. That looks forehead-slappingly obvious now I see it written down! But is interesting (to me only, I know), especially as I don't feel like I'm faster. Also, my hip felt almost completely fine, which is just weird. Maybe the strengthening exercises are working already.

Chewy - I think you should go full marathon, for sure! I still can't work out whether I'd ever want to run one. I think I'd better concentrate on getting through the half, first.

bonkers - my 1 year old greets me with squeals of excitement when I come through the kitchen door after my morning run. Squeals and that rapid thud-thud-thud-thud-thud of a crawling baby advancing at speed. Always makes my day.

notyummy · 19/07/2011 09:53

How did that pace feel for you Emma? Could you have kept it up for much longer? I did 5 miles last night, and felt very 'heavy legged' after a circuits session with some quite heavy weights on sunday. I did it in about 42 minutes, which is over 2 mins slower than usual for me, but it felt really hard work!

5 year old DD always pleased to see me after running - but wont come too close. 'You're all sweaty muumy, bleurgh.' Grin
