Right MrsWeds, finally got my finger out and sponsored you!

Come on paws, man up!!!! Get DS on your back, get the car seat in one hand, and perhaps an ice-cream roulade in the other and run like the wind Wink. Yes, I agree there is a limit.... ha ha.

hatwoman · 16/05/2011 15:40

hi everyone - so much running! anyone would think this was a running thread.

moshi - so glad you've had positive news. I hope they can get on with the op soon and that all goes well.

iread - congrats on the half.

not much running here (makes a change) got out for a short 2-3 miles during the week but then everything went a bit pear shaped as dh came a cropper on his mountain bike and broke his arms. yep you did read that right. arms plural.

thankfullly neither break is very severe and the doc has just told him they'll heal without a caste. they're both still pretty painful but now he's been told that the pain doesn't mean he's doing awful irreparable damage he's happier. I give him 10 days max before he's back on his bike.

hatwoman · 16/05/2011 15:42

forgot to say - I'm feeling better. still feeling a bit nervous about the tripping thing but on balance am feeling ok.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 16/05/2011 16:11

Shock hatwoman, both arms!!!

That must have hurt! Hope his bike's okWink

Glad you are feeling betterSmile

peachsmuggler · 16/05/2011 16:12

Glad to hear you're feeling better Hat. My god, your DH sounds as hard as nails!!!! Hope he heals quickly!

MoshiMoshi · 16/05/2011 16:33

Congratulations to Iread on your first half and a fab time! You must sign up for another one now and aim to get below 2 hours as you just KNOW you can do it!

hat - what bad luck for MrHat! How able is he around the house (I mean as a result, not generally!)?

No running today but a nice hour of ballet with stretching and barre work which resulted in a Eureka moment when I was working my inner thighs and glutes instead of my quads when extending my leg from first position and demi-pointing, pointing and then drawing it back. 'twas very exciting!

Planning a nice medium-long run tomorrow.

MoshiMoshi · 16/05/2011 16:35

PS Forgot to say thank you so much to all for your positive thinking. It really does help and that is what makes this a special thread. Nobody on here is a negative thinker nor the type to dwell on adversity but, at the same time, everyone is incredibly supportive and sympathetic to terrible news. Go us!

DrNortherner · 16/05/2011 16:47

hat 2 broken arms?! Oh God. And why no pot? Poor dh. Hope he is a good patient.....

I am doing a drill session tonight, then a point to point race tomorrow with my club that should be interesting.....it's only 3 miles but they handicapp the faster runners and in theory we all arrive back together. That means I will be setting of first, and will get chased by the super fast lot...not sure I like the sound of it tbh. But could mean I get a super fast time by my standards? Am debating on chickening out and going for a nice 6 miler instead......

hatwoman · 16/05/2011 17:38

DrN - that sounds fun. I don;t have the competotve drive to try to catch up with the person infront but if someone's breathing down my neck I'll push really hard to stop them over-taking

Wheelybug · 16/05/2011 17:54

ooh dear Hat - two broken arms, that doesn't sound good (states bleeding obvious...). But I agree - he sounds hard !!

Am liking the sound of all these South Downs stuff, having grown up spitting distance from them. But must remember I have enough challenges on my list at the moment ....

pawsnclaws · 16/05/2011 18:21

Evening all - reeling with the news of hatwoman's DH, I had visions at first of him bound up in plastercast like a mummy, both arms to his sides. What a nightmare. If it was my DH he would instantly become totally incapable .

Did a nice speed session in the gym following the Moshi formula . I don't know about you lot, but the speed sessions really get me sweating. I get off the treadmill bright red and looking like someone has squeezed a sponge over my head, then have to go and pick ds3 up from the creche - I swear sometimes they wonder what I've been up to.

DH is working from home tomorrow so he can look after ds3 while I drop the car off then jog back. I just had to empty the car out, good God what a mess. A carrier bag full of crushed up raisins, crisp fragments, tissues, scribbly bits of paper and dried up pens - we're a driving biohazard zone.

drivingmisscrazy · 16/05/2011 18:43

paws your car sounds like ours - not helped by the addition of various allotment related items (old pots, bits of string, netting, plant labels, empty seed packets, plus lots and lots of mud) and DD related items (old bits of dandelion, assorted sticks and stones, plus the usual food detritus...

...also I usually run after I drop DD off, for that very reason :)

cestlavie I'm afraid that I usually structure my week's running around whatever social events might be taking place (I am bound to add, 'if any')

v sorry for hat's DH - that must be very painful...

South Downs, lovely - did that walk as a sixth-former, one summer (I was a right dork...); my parents had their honeymoon at Alfriston, as did my grandparents before them.

OP posts:
drivingmisscrazy · 16/05/2011 18:44

just looked at the website for that run - I can actually see myself doing that much more willingly than a marathon. Is that crazy?

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 16/05/2011 18:46

Our wedding reception was just outside Alfriston....

peachsmuggler · 16/05/2011 19:15

Paws, I knew you would find a way to run back tomorrow! Good for you! Smile

DrNo, that drill session sounds hardcore, and you are hardcore. Do it!!!

I am, if anything, getting even more tired. Longing to run, but losing the will to get off the sofa...

drivingmisscrazy · 16/05/2011 19:48

blimey - have you seen this? shocking - such a talent. Sorry about Daily Fail linky

pawsnclaws · 16/05/2011 20:41

Yes I just read it in the Evening Standard DH brought back. Such a shame, I remember him winning the London Marathon - he seemed such a big personality.

wheelybug I've only got a mountain bike with hybrid tyres on it. It is quite a small frame and is quite light for a mountain bike but I am still trying to persuade dh that I need a road bike as well. Unfortunately I'm also trying to convince him I need a digital slr and I don't think I'll get either!

doyouthinktheysawus the south downs way looks like a cool cycle. I don't live too far from it (NE Hants) but have never been down that way at all I don't think.

hat Both arms!!! OUCH!!

Have just done a 4 mile run. I started slowly as I wasn't sure if my tea had settled but then I found it really hard to pick up the pace. It was an ok run though. I need to enter a 10k though as I keep only doing 4 miles as in the tri I'll only have to do 3.

MoshiMoshi · 16/05/2011 22:07

sciencebint - thanks for asking. No date yet but mum is under strict instructions to eat and fatten up as she was weighed and the scales only registered a measly 35.15kg. My sister, the nurse and I all stood there doing the mental calculations and all sort of came to the same conclusion: "less than 6 stone and around 5.5 stone - how could anybody possibly be that light?!!!"
Even at 4'10" it is ridiculously light. My mum has always been a feather weight but I recall her being around the 6 stone - 6 stone and a bit mark when I was growing up.

DebiTheScot · 16/05/2011 22:15

Just checked my run on runkeeper and it had me cutting loads of corners that I didn't cut and running through houses! So I actually did 4.5 miles in 41 minutes which is a decent pace for me.

cestlavie · 16/05/2011 22:17

Sorry to hear that hat - they clearly breed them hard wherever your DH us from! Hope he's back in action soon.

sciencebint if I also spent as much time running as I do worrying about when I'll be able to run I'd be on the fringes of the Olympic squad!

Very sad news indeed about Sammy Wanjiru - really talented athlete and so young. Read a bit about his back story in the papers - grew up running 10K to school and back everyday and had a slightly strange crooked arm running style as a result of carrying his school books under one arm on all those runs growing up....

MrsWednesday · 16/05/2011 22:35

Thank you very, very much for the sponsorship, I am humbled by everyone's generosity (and am now feeling the pressure Grin)

Great time on your half Iread, fantastic achievement! Wise words on the marathon...

I am in tapering hell, convinced my legs are about to drop off (various ailments in both of them), irritable, have over-eaten, am restless, got a cold, tired but can't sleep....ARGGGGGHHH.

Given that my legs are a bit uncomfortable, should I still go for a short run tomorrow? Was planning on doing my usual 5 miles home but have convinced myself I will do myself some damage.

Hat, your poor DH (and poor you, if he's anything like mine as a patient!). I'm glad you are managing to get out and that things seem to be improving.

Rubbish attempt at catching up, am taking myself off to bed and will try harder tomorrow!

drivingmisscrazy · 16/05/2011 22:38

MrsWeds I've got sore legs too! which I almost never have...was going to do an easy 5 miler tomorrow. I probably would if I were you - it might help and as long as you stay nice and slow (generally not a problem for me!) it won't hinder. You've got another day on me, I think - mine's on Saturday...

YeahThatsTheBadger · 16/05/2011 22:55

Grr...Have suffered the same problem as you sciencebint. Typed out a message and it's disappeared.
Anyway, only just getting a chance to properly catch up on the thread-it moves so quick!
Well done iread! Amazing achievement. Smile
Hat Poor mrhat, it sounds painful. Hope he's on the mend soon.
And have sponsored you MrsWed.
