Brexit

I'm feeling increasingly distressed

When watching the news, listening to Suella Braverman or Liz Truss talk utter bollocks to justify the UK breaking the WA.

I just can't help but cringe. It is so so bad. Brexit itself and the time we demanded of the EU for negotiations was bad enough. But this is beyond bad. It's so dishonest it's embarrassing.

I mean how can the UK govt blame the EU for Brexit not working ? They've clearly acted in bad faith signing the WA, knowing they would try to strongarm and bully the EU to change the agreement at the first opportunity. The aim was clearly to just sign ANYTHING to "get Brexit done" and then renege asap.

These are the actions of a dishonest bully. I do not recognise the UK government. I just can't bear the embarrassment I feel when confronted with this reality.

I'm just wondering if it's only me feeling this way.

No. You are very much not alone.

FrancescaContini · 15/06/2022 22:50

No. I can’t watch or listen to the news at the moment. The government are horrifying.

Hesperatum · 15/06/2022 22:57

Totally agree OP. Boris and his acolytes have no moral compass and no coherent policies. Cameron allowing the vote on Brexit made a monumental error. The result. UK’s international reputation thoroughly trashed.

AmIAJoke · 15/06/2022 22:59

Horrific. They are literally riding rough shod over international law and human rights.

I haven't really watched the news since the referendum. I used to be an avid viewer. Now I can only bear it online.

Who could take over from Lord Geidt? Who could honestly say or think that they could do the job with this absolute shower of shite.

Peregrina · 18/06/2022 20:54

No you are definitely not alone. Worse still they are now whining that it's all the Remainers fault. A Remain Brexit would be not having left the EU, or would at least have stayed in the CU and Single Market.

You hear Truss and Braverman babbling on and wonder if they ever listen to themselves.

artisanbread · 18/06/2022 20:58

I feel disturbed every time I hear Suella Braverman talk about anything. How did someone who comes across as so dim get a law degree and rise to the position of attorney general?

The lying is disgusting. It seems to be Tory policy now though. Just lie about everything because nobody trusts politicians anyway. So long as they keep getting away with it they will carry on.

HMSSophia · 18/06/2022 21:01

It's the worst of times. Horrific.

RudsyFarmer · 18/06/2022 21:10

I wouldn't say I'm finding it excruciating. We're trying really hard to extract ourselves from a very complex legal situation.and unsurprisingly it's not going well. We need more mediators and diplomats. Politics is so dogmatic currently. Just people shouting each other down and warring. Same with social media. Nobody wants to listen, nobody wants to discuss. Things are not bla k and white. There can be more than one truth. It would be true to say that the UK.is not cooperating and nor is the EU. There is bad faith in both sides. Life is not a goody and baddy cop show.

SweetSakura · 18/06/2022 21:19

I totally agree. This whole sorry mess was utterly foreseeable.

thistimelastweek · 18/06/2022 21:32

Brexit was a lie, start to finish

Turns out that it's a lie that Boris delivered brexit against all odds.

If the Irish protocol is overriden, we are returned to the impasse that prevented Theresa May's brexit. By that logic we are pre-brexit. It hasn't been delivered. Just another lie.

bellinisurge · 04/07/2022 10:34

These dickwipes will be out soon (I hope). Even a "compassionate conservative/one nation" type Tory would be better than this bunch of criminal incompetence (assuming Labour don't provide a credible alternative).
As with all teenagers, we will all have to pick up the pieces.
So, yes, there's a lot to feel negative about. A lot to feel stressed about, op.

mrsmootoo · 01/08/2022 19:05

No, just posted similar topic in AIBU. Am still very angry.

bellac11 · 01/08/2022 19:09

I feel the same, Ive barely paid much attention to the details since the vote occured,, I cant cope with knowing the reality and what 'we've' done to the country, a huge piece of self harm

Its put paid to plans I had about buying a cheap little property abroad where we have family, I could look at Portugual as they dont have a price minimum but then I was trying to work out the details of how often you can visits or how long you can stay, being able to register for utilities if you're not a resident etc etc

And while that is a 'first world problem' as people like to say - its the fact that someone has taken my rights away from me to have that freedom and what the 'benefits' are to take my rights away from me have been proved to be non existent.

Argumentativearmadillo · 01/08/2022 19:09

Totally agree with you OP. Boris and co and Brexit are all abhorrent
