UK/EU customs...I'm confused

Hi,
We currently live in Germany but would love to go back to the UK to see family. Normally, we drive because it's easier for us. I have tried to find out what items we would need to declare at customs when we drive back to Germany after a visit. We'd like to pick up my nephew's old bike for my DS to use next time we go back to the UK. Would I have to declare that as "expensive sporting goods" on the way back? I'm really confused.
(I also need a new laptop and would have bought one in the UK to get one with a QWERTY keyboard...but not sure I'm allowed.)

There are exemptions for "personal effects" and moving house.
Your local expat FB group will be able to help.

As the UK Government pages are months out of date

If you are taking goods that are more than just personal effects, then they need to be declared and you might need to pay tax on them. Or you could buy an ATA carnet which permits the temporary export of items, which lasts a year. If you buy a laptop in the UK then you should declare it when you enter the EU and might have to pay tax / charges on it.

Yes, Brexit is shit.
