Apparently we need a tunnel. Just like we needed the £53 million failed Garden Bridge.

Nice little earner for anyone involved.

It looks like the House of Sturgeon is slowly crumbling

I think it’s more that Salmond is imploding and he’s trying to take Sturgeon down with him.

He’s so fixated in revenge that he’s content to damage the indy cause to get it.

Good

MrsLaughan I'm very glad they are speaking up about the aid cuts to Yemen, it's appalling.

Clavinova I did spot that, it's a lot of money. I'm not sure that Johnson should be doing the same. The photo in that Daily Mail article from the other day had a picture of Samantha Cameron's kitchen and it looked fine to me Grin.

Clavinova · 02/03/2021 15:22

The kitchen must be 10/11 years old now - it looks new for the Michelle Obama visit in May 2011. It's a pretty standard kitchen to be honest - I can't see a problem with a new one after 10 years. Daily Mail article from Jan 2015;

A UK Registered boat can stay in EU waters indefinitely at the moment.
It's the British owner/crew who are subjected to the 90/180 day rule.
Don't bother asking me how I know - it's a sore point Confused

There has to be a comedy film in there somewhere.

@KonTikki are you planning an expedition?
@KonTikki are you planning an expedition?
It's almost writing itself.

So a bunch of numbnuts decide they need to smuggle some banned Cadburys chocolate into the let's-portray-it-like-Nazi-Germany EU.

Due to a hilarious mishap where they use a car satnav instead of a proper nautical one (they are Brexiteers after all, so that's easily believed) and a pisspoor understanding of geography (see previous) they find they are sailing towards "Paris, Texas". By the time they realise their mistake, they've been at sea too long and need to disguise themselves ....

As a review I once read might say "It has go-fast straight-to-video stripes down the side".

DGRossetti · 02/03/2021 16:50

Why the UK isn't trusted ...

www.theguardian.com/law/2021/mar/02/uk-failed-to-inform-eu-countries-about-almost-200-killers-and-rapists

The conviction of 109 killers, 81 rapists and a man found guilty of both crimes in UK courts was not passed on to the criminals’ home EU countries due to a massive computer failure and subsequent cover-up, the Guardian can reveal.

The most serious cases are among a total of 112,490 criminal convictions not sent to the relevant EU capitals over an eight-year period due to a catastrophic computer glitch, which some fear has put lives at risk.

The scandal largely involves dual nationals, who are only rarely deported even after lengthy prison sentences, leaving EU member states potentially blind as to whether those convicted of crimes in the UK have since entered their country.

The revelation will be highly embarrassing at a time when UK police forces are often relying on goodwill for continued cooperation on the sharing of information after the loss of access to EU databases due to Brexit.

🐿 Santa Claus was probably originally from Turkey - Saint Nicholas is thought to have been born in the city of Patara in the 4th century and became bishop in the city of Myra, in the province of Antalya. Therefore, True BeLeaving ToryBrexitannian patriots must get their knickers in a twist about Turkey joining the EU and also about people pointing out that this was not going to happen. 🐿
Wasn't St George turkish?
DGRossetti · 02/03/2021 17:12

Wasn't St George turkish?

A much better way to put it, is that he most definitely was not English.

HappyWinter · 02/03/2021 17:16

True Clavinova but I think the problem is that Boris lives beyond his budget, there's been a few stories about that, and it sounds like Carrie has expensive taste. I'm guessing there will be an expected amount for any redecorations and they are going beyond it, otherwise it wouldn't be a problem.

HappyWinter · 02/03/2021 17:18

I'm more worried about the government cutting the aid budget to Yemen. That will have catastrophic consequences for the country. The UK was always good at helping other countries, I'm worried we are moving away from that.

DGRossetti · 02/03/2021 17:34

The UK was always good at helping other countries,

Nowhere near as good as it's been at helping itself though.

A UK registered boat may be able to stay in EU waters indefinitely, but what about if/when it returns to the UK?

There seems to be a problem with Returned Goods Relief www.rya.org.uk/knowledge-advice/current-affairs/Pages/Brexit.aspx

While continuing to sell arms at great profit to the Saudi regime.... another thing that I am sure will not have escaped the Biden team.

Interesting comments, I watched the video and read the article and it didn't appear he expanded on what sovereignty we are "pooling" with the United States. A shame really, it was an interesting point he raised.

Suddenly I have images of the folks from the Hamble and Lymington with their boats in EU waters while they sit in the tenders just into UK waters.

St Peter Port must be laughing a LOT

Same principle of pooled sovereignty as with any trade deal. Trade deal with US means US corporations can lobby our Parliament for input into our laws and regulations, and take the U.K. government to court where our laws impact their profits. Cf Philip Morris vs Aus government. Court case cost $40 million.

US business also wants to get its hands on the NHS. Hence recent takeover of GP practices with 500,000 patients in Camden by US insurer.

HappyWinter · 02/03/2021 20:40

Yes, we have an awful lot to answer for by selling arms to the Saudi's. I got the phrasing wrong, we were good with aid. Not so great with the other things like not fuelling conflict in other regions with our dodgy arms sales. It shouldn't be allowed to happen, I'm guessing the defence industry are good protecting their interests by lobbying government. The failure of informing the EU about the criminals is terrible too.

Kamala Harris has a fair chance of becoming US President herself. If she does, can we expect visas and green cards for any UK citizen who wants one? DS2 (aged 12) might work for NASA after all; 'Vote Kamala!^

Both of her parents were degree educated before they immigrated to the US - her mother from India. Interesting statistic here;

Indian-Americans are the wealthiest group of immigrants in the US. AAPI Data says Indian-Americans are the highest earning ethnic group in the US with $139,000 median household income while the overall median US household income is $61,372 as per the US Census Bureau.

Hopefully Rishi Sunak will be our next PM, although you can console yourself with the fact that Keir Starmer has promised not to use a veto on Turkey, or any other EU candidate country, if he makes it to Number 10 and we rejoin the EU. We all know that non-racist Rejoiners wouldn't dream of vetoing any candidate country that met the criteria for joining the EU - the veto was just a trick.

If the U.K. & US signed a trade deal facilitating movement of peoples then yeah. Otherwise it’s a bloody stupid question.

Clavinova · 02/03/2021 21:35

If the U.K. & US signed a trade deal facilitating movement of peoples then yeah.

Have the US and India signed a free trade deal? I thought her parents were able to immigrate to the US because they were both pursuing doctorate degrees - having already obtained degrees in their home countries. You called me a racist because I posted that Indian doctors, dentists, engineers, lawyers, business entrepreneurs and computer programmers were likely to be granted visas to the UK. I was expecting something more from Kamala Harris - you implied that she had a higher moral standard. But what you're saying now, is that if Kamala Harris becomes US President one day she would only facilitate comprehensive immigration into the US for UK citizens as part of a trade deal that benefits her own country as well. Very disappointing.
