Apparently negotiations are in the black hole of the EU tunnel or should that be on the back of the fantasy of the Boris Bridge?

Another week closer to complete meltdown.

I'm guessing that our world beating customs solution will be based on blackboard and chalk.

Where are you Shrill?(broad area)

A couple of weeks ago - before a lot of unis had gone back (I think Scotland had been back a week) I saw stats of where they linked transmission back to, and far and away in was educational settings.... schools, unis and colleges. Bloody depressing

RedToothBrush · 07/10/2020 19:47

I think I have to be honest on this but the idea of the pubs shutting here, I think will push a few people over the edge given the excel spreadsheet bullshit.

If you are the type to be still going to the pub, then shutting the pub is probably at this point only likely to push you into non-compliant social gathering elsewhere.

I am not convinced it will stop the problem.

Just leaving this here, I know this is one of your favourite Brexit supporting politicians.

Yes. We've had 2 so far this term and got a 'reminder' today. I am in Northumberland
prettybird · 07/10/2020 20:13

Nat 5 formal exams (the Scottish equivalent of GCSEs) have been cancelled and will be based on school produced work.

The Highers (and presumably Advanced Highers) exam diet has been put back 2 weeks to 13 May.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/10/2020 20:45

Saw the Nat 5 news, good that it’s been decided now so that everyone knows how it will work.

I’m warning DS that the same might happen with GCSEs (but since it’s The Boy Gav in charge any decision will be last minute and panicked).

CornwallLass · 07/10/2020 20:46

I am a headteacher in the south of England and we are being told repeatedly that primary school closure is the absolute last resort. Weekly meetings with the local authority who speak weekly with the DfE. I currently believe this. We must have the facilities in place for immediate remote learning for those in self isolation so it might be linked with that.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/10/2020 20:48

Just to add, school (local academy) is doing lots of in class tests based on past papers, so teachers will at least have data on which to base assessments.

SabrinaThwaite · 07/10/2020 20:50

DS’s bubble is the whole Year 11 group - so if one youngster gets a positive test the whole year is off for 14 days. It’s only a matter of time I’m sure.

Oh I’d love that to happen in england too. It would be good for dc2 (due to sit his GCSE).
borntobequiet · 07/10/2020 21:06

I know that if I were still in secondary all my KS4 and 5 groups would be doing weekly assessments and their results carefully recorded.

Ding dong! Round 4 ...

mathanxiety
Tbh, I took up the Leaving Cert schadenfreude comment just for the lols of watching a certain poster pontificate on a topic they were clearly not at all familiar with, with the bonus of inability to address relevance. It was fun while it lasted...

You didn't appear to be enjoying yourself.

...but I feel moved to note that that poster knows exactly what comment of hers revealed her ignorance ('vague' was a polite understatement on my part) of the Irish university application and admission system because she didn't include it in her confused screed above.

I didn't claim to know much about the Irish university application and admission system - it's not a test! You asked me what I knew and I replied; "I do know a little about the Irish Leaving Cert." In fact, I think you only challenged a few words of my paragraph.

You asked me to look at some data in one of your posts - did you find anything more recent than 2014/2015 in the end? You skipped that reply. Actually, don't worry about it now...

OchonAgusOchonO
Apologies to everyone else for the derailing. I know the squirrelling is obvious but I was just curious as to whether there was any hint of rhyme or reason to the posts.

I think you've taken curiosity to a whole new level!

You obviously can't come up with an argument as to why your post was relevant. Fair enough. I accept that and move on.

I haven't conceded anything - especially in view of the illuminating discussion you've had with mathanxiety this evening - I feel like a 'matchmaker' now. Grin

Meuniere · 07/10/2020 21:16

I think they already do that at my dcs school born.
They’ve also been told they need to look at the mocks as if it was the real exam.

ListeningQuietly · 07/10/2020 21:16

My DS was tested on admission through A&E
Yours will have been too
but they are rugby playing boys so shrug if we ask

I’ve always been a fan of properly set, structured, supervised and assessed coursework. It can vastly enhance learning.

The PM is in trouble - and he could be about to face a parliamentary defeat over the 10pm pub curfew

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-the-pm-is-in-trouble-and-he-could-be-about-to-face-a-parliamentary-defeat-over-the-10pm-pub-curfew-12098504

The prime minister is in trouble because Keir Starmer has switched tactics on Coronavirus

< FINALLY ! The Opposition should be requiring the govt to justify further actions, instead of just trundling passively through the Yes Lobby every time >

Until now, he has supported all Downing Street's restrictions in England.
No longer.

At today's PMQs, the Labour leader signalled that Labour's support for measures would not be automatic.
He went on to question whether there was a scientific basis for the 10pm curfew, something many Tories want to know too.

Although Labour hasn't formally announced it's voting against the 10pm curfew when it comes to the Commons on Monday, all the signs point to this.

This is important since a parliamentary defeat for Mr Johnson has become a mathematical possibility if enough Tory MPs now join in.

This would be a massive Commons moment:

a signal that MPs do not have confidence in Mr Johnson's coronavirus policies and an extremely serious blow to Mr Johnson's authority.
....
Downing Street insists the vote is going ahead as it stands.
But the first rumours - courtesy of the Evening Standard - have emerged that Number 10 is considering a whole rethink of the policy anyway.

Make no mistake, if this happens it will have been a consequence of the Commons starting to take back control of coronavirus policy.
