Westminstenders: The Tunnel or Bridge

RedToothBrush · 06/10/2020 15:18

Apparently negotiations are in the black hole of the EU tunnel or should that be on the back of the fantasy of the Boris Bridge?

Another week closer to complete meltdown.

I'm guessing that our world beating customs solution will be based on blackboard and chalk.

Although I just tried again and ticked “strongly disagree” for everything and it basically told me I was unemployable.

OchonAgusOchonO · 08/10/2020 23:39

Maybe it's linked to the yellow pages and just throws in a random entry from there?

Jason118 · 08/10/2020 23:40

Surgeon, or hotel porter, or yoga therapist, spoilt for choice!

SwedishEdith · 08/10/2020 23:41

According to that questionnaire, I could be a boxer, a funeral director, a micro-brewer or could lead a team of Royal Marines commandos.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/10/2020 01:04

I also got astronomer, Royal marines officer

Additionally judge, coroner

There were 192 job suggestions in total, so plenty to choose from !

Far right terrorist plots like this are the inevitable consequence of Trump deliberately encouraging the violent far right:

Six people charged in plot to kidnap Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/oct/08/six-people-charged-plot-kidnap-michigan-governor-gretchen-whitmer

Whitmer, a Democrat, has been the frequent target of protests by often heavily armed anti-lockdown groups
who have launched numerous demonstrations against her efforts to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
....
Whitmer’s moves once caused Trump to tweet “Liberate Michigan” as an exhortation to his supporters against her policy.

As news of the foiled plot unfolded, many commentators fingered the president’s words as a contributing factor to the alleged conspiracy.

Former FBI agent and national security commentator Asha Rangappa asked pointedly:

“Who knew that Trump and Fox News’ exhortations to “liberate Michigan” might lead to an attempt to harm the governor and lead a coup? Completely unforeseeable.”

Truss tells it like it is

notimagain · 09/10/2020 07:12

Maybe it's linked to the yellow pages and just throws in a random entry from there?

Given that despite the massive number of layoffs in the Aviation industry it offered me (amongst other things) Airline pilot and also Cabin Crew I don't think it's linked to anything in the real world.

TheABC · 09/10/2020 07:42

Hey, at least Truss is being honest, for once.

Let's give credit where it's due.

lonelyplanetmum · 09/10/2020 07:42

What nonsense that questionnaire is. I'm the least sporty person in the world-defining stressful memories from school at bring picked last my captains for teams in hockey, netball etc. Also I am worried about, and distrusting of, the gambling world and exploitation of those with addictive personalities etc. Some of my jobs were :

Track and field athlete
Retail betting assistant
Bingo announcer

DrBlackbird · 09/10/2020 07:49

It's a new government personality quiz? Allegedly to suggest careers? Hmm My best conspiracy guess is that it's the creation of DC to collect and store information about users to develop voter profiles now that his pals at Cambridge Analytica have shut down. Grin

Jason118 · 09/10/2020 07:49

The questionnaire is obviously reusing the A level results algorithm.

pointythings · 09/10/2020 07:58

Well, the questionnaire offered me sectors I have worked or work in - Education, Government, IT - and some of the jobs I've had. But food and hospitality? I think not. For me it wasn't completely ludicrous, just didn't offer anything unexpected.

I'm being made redundant at the end of the year, so who knows what will happen? Fortunately if I don't get found a job internally, it's NHS redundancy with 13 years of service, so financially things will be OK.

Meuniere · 09/10/2020 08:01

I’ve done it too.
It offered me areas where I’ve never worked and NOTHING about what I’ve done (and I’ve had jobs in several areas).
I mean hospitality and retail? I’m a scientist with a master level in 3 different areas.

FWIW many people on twitter have done that test. And many researchers ended up with jobs such as tree surgeon.

HesterThrale · 09/10/2020 08:51

Haha I was given ‘border force agent’! I’m surprised they’re not suggesting that to everybody as I guess there are openings in that area right now.

Also jeweller, market trader and judge. Like nothing I’ve ever actually done. Hilarious.

SunnyUplandsOhNoTurnipSoup · 09/10/2020 09:04

It came up with a couple of things that sounded plausible:
Technical architect, baker which I could like (v different from local government) but prefer to eat rather than bake bread, information scientist, social care but also:
Athlete 😂
IT security coordinator
Cake decorator
Prison instructor
Funeral director
Fish frier
Market trader

Sostenueto · 09/10/2020 09:10

Nanotechnologist
Healthcare worker
Factory machine worker
Researcher
Archeologist

Mmh! No idea why I got that list being as most of my answers we're leaning towards creative.

bellinisurge · 09/10/2020 09:11

I was given "actor ".
Fuck wits never fail me with their fuckwittery.

TheElementsOfMedical · 09/10/2020 09:27

That questionnaire is absolutely ridiculous. I wonder how much it cost us, and whose crony got the gig?

Clavinova · 09/10/2020 09:29

My best conspiracy guess is that it's the creation of DC to collect and store information about users to develop voter profiles now that his pals at Cambridge Analytica have shut down.

How apt you should mention Cambridge Analytica -

7 October;
"Cambridge Analytica 'not involved' in Brexit referendum, says watchdog."

"A three-year probe into the misuse of personal data, centering around the activities of the firm, has now ended."

"But it [the ICO] found Cambridge Analytica was not involved in the 2016 vote "beyond some initial enquiries made...in the early stages" around UKIP."

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54457407

Incidentally, my career suggestions were: criminal intelligence analyst, psychologist and archaeologist - in fact I did seriously consider applying for an archaeology degree in sixth form. I also received the general heading of 'Government Services' - no comment.
Wink

notimagain · 09/10/2020 09:32

. I wonder how much it cost us, and whose crony got the gig

From the aviation jobs POV the credible answer to which cronies would be those venture capitalists running Aviation Training Organisations....they have expensive courses to fill.....

DGRossetti · 09/10/2020 09:56

I took the questionnaire and it suggested ...

Government advisor Grin

Only kidding. I don't need to take it to know that "government advisor" ain't a job it's going to dish out. Much like "Monarch".

What a crock. What an absolute waste of time and money. Still, I don't think it's taken much talent away from Google or Microsoft or Apple.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/10/2020 10:06

Senate Majority leader McConnell supports Trump all the way .... just not when it comes to his own personal health and life

Julie Tsirkinn@JulieNBCNews*

MCCONNELL: “I haven’t actually been to the White House since August the 6th.
Because my impression was that their approach to how to handle this is different from mine and what I suggested that we do in the Senate, which is to wear a mask and practice social distancing."

Legit · 09/10/2020 10:12

Bill Esterson
@Bill_Esterson

The government has given PPE Medpro a contract – not advertised to other bidders – to supply 25 million gowns for health workers. PPE Medro was set up 7 weeks earlier. It has close connections to Tory Party donors.

ListeningQuietly · 09/10/2020 10:14

So, let me get this right
the only person who got a remotely sensible answer from the Government quiz was
Clavinova
It gets better and better Grin
