“In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”

Not George Orwell but often attributed to him. But a powerful statement with resonance nonetheless

The worst of it, will be to realise that the past 10 weeks have been for fuck all for the UK. It may have saved a few lives, which sounds great on paper. But if it's only saved them to experience the horror of the next pandemic, it's a questionable gain.

Meanwhile, the haphazard, confusing, contradictory, science-lite approach of the UK has left very little that could be reliably counted upon to inform our response for the aforementioned Next One. It's the epitome of Level 1 in the Capability Maturity Model, for management nerds...

There are five levels defined along the continuum of the model and, according to the SEI: "Predictability, effectiveness, and control of an organization's software processes are believed to improve as the organization moves up these five levels. While not rigorous, the empirical evidence to date supports this belief".

Initial (chaotic, ad hoc, individual heroics) - the starting point for use of a new or undocumented repeat process.

Repeatable - the process is at least documented sufficiently such that repeating the same steps may be attempted.

Defined - the process is defined/confirmed as a standard business process

Capable - the process is quantitatively managed in accordance with agreed-upon metrics.

Efficient - process management includes deliberate process optimization/improvement.

Johnson trying to go on the attack, accusing Starmer of being 'negative' and by implication pro-virus. Also flat-out lying about T&T being up and running on Jun 1 and deflecting on his earlier promise not to relax lockdown until we were below Level 4.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/06/2020 12:20

Cycles and cars don't mix

Agreed. Keep Death off the roads, ride on the pavement.

On China, we must note the progress to full democracy of Taiwan and stop persecuting them for the sake of licking Bejing's arse.

ListeningQuietly · 03/06/2020 12:24

DGR
in my city they have blocked off loads and loads of roads to cars during lockdown
and reduced four lane roads to two
to make proper kerb separated cycle lanes
they actually seem to be copying from the fantastic Ghent example
and it is working

so you with DW will have the pavement - and cyclists will have half the road
good result all round
(if she gets a powered chair, look up the adult buggy boards for the back - such a blast)

Taking essentially political refugees would be problematic for NZ........ (don't get me wrong Auckland has a huge Asian population) , but the NZ economy is very reliant on China. China is not afraid to throw its weight around. With the economy taking a hit with Covid, and election around the corner..... I don't know how much a Jacinda will actually want to get involved in that..... and certianly why the fuck would they do it for the UK?

QuestionMarkNow · 03/06/2020 12:58

However, will people in the UK really want an influx of people who are ethnic Chinese?

I did wonder what was the point of kicking EU citizens out and stoppig them from 'jumping the queue' to do the exact same thing with HK....
People who voted brexit won't be hapy with that!

TheElementsOfMedical · 03/06/2020 13:12

Johnson trying to go on the attack, accusing Starmer of being 'negative' and by implication pro-virus.

It worked so well with Brexit: if you didn't BeLeave and get behind Brexit and ignore all the evidence of reality, then you were a talking-Britain-down-doom-mongering traitor whose negative mental brainwaves were literally killing unicorns.

I don't see why it wouldn't work with the same target audience.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/06/2020 13:18

...Also, "We owe it to the victims" to do XYZ, which is such claptrap as cannot be topped.

Peregrina · 03/06/2020 13:37

BA is only one so far intending to do this.

I've heard indirectly, (from someone who knows someone who works for BA!) that they have been getting rid of people and then re-employing them later on worse terms. Covid-19 has accelerated this process. Why let a good crisis go to waste, hey?

DGRossetti · 03/06/2020 13:43

Taking essentially political refugees would be problematic for NZ........ (don't get me wrong Auckland has a huge Asian population) , but the NZ economy is very reliant on China.

As will be the post-Brexit UK ...

I imagine even now, Beijing is letting it be known that if the UK even dreams about taking refugees (i.e. money) out of HK then it had better wake up an apologise.

mrslaughan · 03/06/2020 13:51

Yes BG - but Jacinda isn't stupid ....she's not going cut of her nose to spite her face...... whereas the uk government?

DGR - that is unbelievable- kind of ......

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/06/2020 14:39

"MPs must from now on demand that he shows that his ears are as empty as his head"

I suppose he could try a suppository, or does he only talk out of that?

pussycatinboots · 03/06/2020 14:54

@DGRossetti

I bloody said that to DH today!!! That's why the scruffy git is keeping his hair longer in a failed attempt to cover it up!
MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 03/06/2020 15:12

I've had a look, and it looks like he has peculiar ears that create a shading effect.

The pictures are inconclusive.

He just has a weird flap of skin in his right ear
That's no way to describe DumCom

prettybird · 03/06/2020 15:15

According to the Spectator, it is fake news - although I can't be bothered clicking through to the article itself and using up one of my "free" articles.

pussycatinboots · 03/06/2020 15:18

Would that be the Spectator that Mrs DumCom works for?

pussycatinboots · 03/06/2020 15:21

I thought they'd use the "CV has damaged his hearing" excuse if it was found to be true.
It's damaged his understanding judging by his lack of answers in PMQs.

FliesandPies · 03/06/2020 15:23

I can't see an earpiece in the photo but I can see right through to the other side

Until I'm paid for it, my postings should always be assumed to come with a health warning Grin. Even I don't believe them sometimes.
