We are seeking an extension. Apparently. No prizes for guessing why.

There is no news but COVID news. And that's all there will be for a long time.

Enjoy your stockpile and your sunny uplands it brought.

Keep safe.

I think that's what he said sos

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 17:22

Yep, as with the days after the referendum, NS got a grip immediately and looks competent,
whereas the 3 UK PMs have looked "in office but not in power"

Doesn't mean I normally think her aims ally with mine,
but she knows her job and does it well

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 17:30

Italy has had falling numbers of new cases and deaths for 2 days now

However, as I posted earlier, we need a week's figures to have any kind of reliable trend:
Germany's figures for both were also lower the previous 2 days, but today has higher new cases and new deaths again.

For all countries, new measures probably take at least 4 weeks to affect deaths
and - for the UK - the testing is too sparse to be very meaningful in comparisons to other countries.

Italy and UK on much the same curve for total deaths, just with the UK 2-3 weeks behind

There is some hope that the UK deaths curve is increasing more slowly than Italy's did

  • I thought this earlier too - but very tentatively and it may change again.

So sorry yoikes I'm hoping the morphine means your aunt no longer knows too much about it Flowers
For foodbank, what is most useful - money or groceries. I'm trying to work out how best to be supportive in this situation.
As a part time carer, I'm struggling with wanting to socially distance vs offering up my time to do a bit more, and I don't know what to do for the best.
I see my current clients as my priority, and don't want to put them, or me and DH at risk.

AuldAlliance · 23/03/2020 17:49

Flowers Yoikes

Grinchlywords · 23/03/2020 18:36

Just heard message to nation at 8.30 - on PM programme. Anyone else?

yoikes · 23/03/2020 18:37

How are you grinchly?

I'm feeling oddly tearful

ClashCityRocker · 23/03/2020 18:50

Yup he's addressing the nation at 8.30.

All brits abroad have been advised to come home now if they want to come home.

Grinchlywords · 23/03/2020 18:51

Hello Yoikes, been thinking of you too. I think we all feel on edge and scared. It must be especially awful for you with your aunt so very poorly.

I am very much better thank you. Recovery has been as rapid as the onset was, but still feel a bit fragile and under the weather.

Going back to work tomorrow ( from home of course) to get some semblance of normality. Although I am public sector and the implications for my corner of the Civil Service are seismic.

Things have taken on a dream like quality almost.

I am doubling down on the self care, what else can we do?

yoikes · 23/03/2020 18:59

Well, I've just eaten a whole pack of jaffa cakes...does that count as self care?? :)
Trying to keep some semblance of normality for the dc but its hard - harder after today I expect.
Glad you're on the mend...i was SO worried about you!

mrslaughan · 23/03/2020 19:07

Grinchy - so pleased you are feeling better, have been looking out for you all day.
Don't overdo it though will you? I have heard people talking about feeling better, then doing too much and feeling awful all over again.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:15

Sounds like BJ has finally been persuaded to get serious

  • inevitable after the “Domoscene conversion” happened

Try not to worry about the message to Brits abroad:
It seems standard procedure with a lockdown to bring home all citizens who want to return, as flights in & out will probably be for essential travel only.
Germany brought home about 150,000 Germans in 9 days because of our lockdown

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:18

That's excellent news you have recovered Grinchly

Please don't return ft to even WFH until you are fully fit - this kind of virus can really hammer your strength for quite a while
Can you can ease your way in for a couple of weeks ? Your work sounds stressful

Yoikes 💐
Thinking of you

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:23

SadSad Probably happening elsewhere too in Europe and the USA

Not all will be CV either

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/23/spain-distributes-650000-testing-kits-as-coronavirus-deaths-rise-steeply

Soldiers drafted in to help Spainn^ tackle the coronavirus pandemic by disinfecting and running residential homes have found a number of elderly people abandoned and dead in their beds,
according to the country’s defence minister.

Songsofexperience · 23/03/2020 19:28

I have heard people talking about feeling better, then doing too much and feeling awful all over again.

^This.
Don't be like me. Had double pneumonia 2 weeks ago (suspected covid). Worst chest pain ever, fever, aches etc the lot. I couldn't walk up the stairs without pausing in the middle. Felt better 3 days ago and went for a short walk and worked the whole day. Now I'm in bed again feeling crap! If it is covid and you are still fragile please be very cautious and take time before you work your normal routine.

Grinchlywords · 23/03/2020 19:32

Jaffa cakes are the epitome of self care! Smile

Songsofexperience · 23/03/2020 19:34

Indeed!
Though I lost my sense of taste/ smell weirdly too. Grrr

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 23/03/2020 19:34

BCF old people dying alone is an inevitable, if terrifying, consequence of lock down. Sad

Mockerswithnoknockers · 23/03/2020 19:39

Hold Up, Mother, it's that Mister Johnson he's a proper gentleman and no mistake, come to address us all on the wireless at half past eight.

prettybird · 23/03/2020 19:39

Loss of taste/smell dies now seem to be a recognised symptom in otherwise asymptomatic people - so given that you also had other symptoms, it would seem to be additional proof that you had Covid-19. Look after yourself Thanks

Grinchlywords · 23/03/2020 19:40

I am being careful everyone thank you. Lots of rest, fluids and paracetamols still.
Work are saying do it gradually and are being super flexible.

Grinchlywords · 23/03/2020 19:44

Metallic taste in mouth is another apparently. I had that also.

BigChocFrenzy · 23/03/2020 19:48

contender That report sounded like at least some were in care homes, not their own homes

Carers ill, manager got ill .... or too scared ?
Anyway, noone to care for the residents who just died of neglect - probably thirst

The Spanish minister said people would be prosecuted if they abandon their responsibilities

yoikes · 23/03/2020 19:49

My poor aunt :(
All alone. After a life spent serving others:(

Songsofexperience · 23/03/2020 19:54

So very sad yoikes 💐
