Westministenders: Crisis, which crisis ?

Main crises facing the government:

. Negotiating a Brexit deal with the EU
. Coronoavirus
. Floods
. Allegations of some ministers - and Cummings - bullying civil servants
. More trouble threatened from Turkey / Syria

Unfortunately with all these parallel crises, we have a workshy lying arse as PM
and the worst collection yet of incompetents in Cabinet
who seem to have decided on a strategy of bullying their civil servants to avoid hearing any facts that don't fit with current Tory party ideology

'Lock down' going well here. People seem very cautious and concerned about virus but are treating the shut down as an unexpected holiday. Most people from our village seem to have gone to their summer houses on the coast. I'm off for another week (already had a week off due to a cold that has cleared up nicely). My husband will be working from home for 4 weeks, to be reassessed at the end of the easter holidays. Parents have had one on one meetings with teachers today to talk about what should be done with school work for two weeks. Health visitors are coming visiting (not coming in to) all houses with children to discuss hand washing technique and hygiene precautions. Hand hygiene videos are going to be shown on TV from today. All seems very much in control. I imagine its because people very much trust the government and will take advice knowing there will be economic casualties but that will be dealt with later. I think the UK gov don't have this well of trust to draw from and so it's probably wise to use reverse psychology to get people to stay at home.

In the same way, I frequently think that if a foreign politician said loudly that the Brits should leave the EU because they are not welcome, then 'Remain' would have won! :)

It's certainly to not overwhelm the NHS but also to not admit that it has been run down so much. And agree, lots of the 'it's only flu' brigade are also real but that's what astroturfing/influencing does.

(Mind you, DM did have over 1,000 VHS tapes in her collection when she passed ....)

Recorded off the telly? Do you still have them? There are academic orgs that might like them as there’s a copyright exemption.

Yeah ... it was her hobby circa 1983 on. somewhere I had a photo of the pallet my DB crated them up on for removal about 10 years ago. Some did get transferred to DVD, but no idea where they are now. I wasn't around for that ...

Friends cancelling parties
the M25 running at 70 miles an hour on a Friday evening
trains packed
Waitrose sold out of loo roll and pasta
surreal

love the fact that I still have my Brexit stash of all essentials

Since this is the Brexit forum, it would be interesting to consider what parts of getting Brexit done (if any) are in direct conflict with what's needed to effectively deal with COVID.

They banned UK experts from going to meeting of EU experts to discuss the best way to handle the pandemic as it would give the impression that we might actually need the EU and therefore weaken our hand in negotiations.
