Westministenders: Crisis, which crisis ?

BigChocFrenzy · 29/02/2020 18:25

Main crises facing the government:

. Negotiating a Brexit deal with the EU
. Coronoavirus
. Floods
. Allegations of some ministers - and Cummings - bullying civil servants
. More trouble threatened from Turkey / Syria

Unfortunately with all these parallel crises, we have a workshy lying arse as PM
and the worst collection yet of incompetents in Cabinet
who seem to have decided on a strategy of bullying their civil servants to avoid hearing any facts that don't fit with current Tory party ideology

In our household, it's 'mind your Coronavirus' every time someone coughs.

And at work (I'm in the NHS) none of my stuff is getting done because all our decision makers keep getting pulled away to work on managing Coronavirus.

But hey ho, we have our sovereignty back and blue passports, right?

Revolting picture of BJ and Hancock,
each with the designated government symbol for "I'm working hard" of tie tucked into shirt

They'll be writing a slogan on a bus soon .....

Raab felt unwell after returning from abroad and hence self-isolated
His COVID test came back negative

(I always suspect that any foreign politician who has to meet Raab then has a rabies test sharpish)

@lonelyplanetmum
You should be very proud of your DD.
Such high moral judgement from one so young Grin

Funkycats · 01/03/2020 06:31

Thank you for new thread.

I actually cried today (I am sick I should add, I am normally more resilient but it got to me today). How fucking sociopathic brexit is. The lack of empathy and individualism is staggering.

I lived in this bubble believing equality was the common goal of politicians. The odd one may have been misguided or corrupt, but on the whole they wanted the best for the country. So i thought.

I am 45. This realisation - like taking the red pill - had happened over the past 5 years. Was I naive before, am I overdramatic now or is this reality and ever has been so?

yoikes · 01/03/2020 07:49

who I know exactly what you mean

squid4 · 01/03/2020 07:56

Same, @Whowantstogotothepark
This winter has felt like the death of hope
Oh well at least there's a pandemic coming to keep me busy...

Mockersisrightasusual · 01/03/2020 08:41

So coronavirus battle plan: 1) register retired health professionals.

  1. Deploy cast of Holby City, Call The Midwife etc, and hope that people will be reassured.
TreesSandSea · 01/03/2020 08:44

😂 Mockers

You heard it here first....

NomDeDieu · 01/03/2020 08:44

PMK

Mockersisrightasusual · 01/03/2020 08:46

Jenny Agutter can take my temperature if she wants.

NomDeDieu · 01/03/2020 08:53

@Whowantstogotothepark, same here both on account of politics (and democracy) and on the subject of equality between men and women.

I’m also wondering if it’s me being too negative, living in a bubble that convince me it’s that bad if if actually I finally have seen how things actually ARE.

HenHarrier · 01/03/2020 08:53

Jenny Agutter can take my temperature if she wants

Even in the American style?

Mockersisrightasusual · 01/03/2020 08:57

Any style she likes.

How many times have I watched Walkabout?

Peregrina · 01/03/2020 09:22

Looks like the announcement of the forthcoming happy event didn't come quite soon enough to blow the story of Priti Patel entirely off the front pages - although the Sunday Sycophant is doing its best.

I know old fashioned Tories who take the Sunday Torygraph, and Johnson being divorced from a wife of many years, and having a baby with a woman young enough to be his daughter, is not really the sort of behaviour they normally approve of. But because it's lovable Boris, they will have to mute their disapproval and pursed lips.

HesterThrale · 01/03/2020 09:22

Who sorry you feel like that; it does feel like there’s no good news atm. Surely something hopeful will have to happen soon?

Sorry to quote the DM but this was interesting. It seems Cummings has his own advisers, who are as batshit as he is. Suggesting we could import all our own food, like Singapore: ’which is rich without having its own agricultural sector'..

'Britain doesn't need farmers', leaked emails claim: Major new Whitehall storm erupts over incendiary suggestions made by Dominic Cummings' adviser after Number 10 brands senior mandarin who quit over Priti Patel row 'Sir Calamity'

It’s notable the Mail seems to have more anti-gov stories lately.

Covid 19 is said to pose most risk to over 60's
Doctors are said to make the worst patients
So how sensible is it to bring old doctors into contact with potential virus carriers?

Peregrina · 01/03/2020 09:25

Ah yes, a country with a population less than the size of London. Still I am sure the Leavers will rise to the challenge of importing food for more than ten times the number.

Peregrina · 01/03/2020 09:28

Covid 19 is said to pose most risk to over 60's

What a miracle though - kill off the old folk so solving the care crisis.

(Said tongue in cheek because I am over 60 myself.)

Mockersisrightasusual · 01/03/2020 09:31

Covid 19 is killing almost exclusively over-50s, and so far no kids.

Well, I'm sure they can remember how from the days of Cecil Parkinson ...

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2020 10:26

It's depressing isn't it?

Thanks BCF.
