Brexit divorce bill

When does this get paid? How much is it? I read somewhere that we'd been handed a bill for a million last night but now can't find where I read it (on a thread somewhere).

It was a BILLION. Handed to us at 11pm last night. How many NHS/teaching salaries could that have covered? Still, we got our country back, right?!

What happened to the £39 billion that was talked about?

Got our country back from where? Is what I'd like to know. I didn't realise it was missing or had been held hostage. Brexit has cost so much and not just in monetary value. A complete waste of resources.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo That's the divorce bill and still needs to be paid. The £1 billion is our annual payment to the EU, up from one million last year. No concessions now we're no longer a member.

Ah, I see, thank you. I'd read that people were complaining about the bill of a billion. Made me laugh. Politics should be an essential part of the curriculum like maths, English, and sciences.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo I couldn't agree more. A colossal waste of money just so people can wave their Union Jacks and crow that Britannia rules the waves again.

The divorce bill to be paid in full over the coming years, plus the continuing membership fees even though we are not a member during the extension to the extension, and possibly the extension of the extension to the extension after Dec 2020.
