I'm not making a song and dance about it. I'm not falling out with anyone over it. I dont want to debate it. I'm just sad about it.

And that's ok.

Anyone else with me?

It is sad. But actually, those who wanted to leave have now got what they wanted. They got their democracy, so they can be satisfied and will hopefully stop complaining.

Now we can regroup and focus on rejoining, maintaining good relationships with the other member states and reminding the rest of the world that at least 48% of those who voted in the referendum are open-minded and didn't want this.

We mustn't let the narrative be that the UK is a parochial xenophobic island. We are not an insignificant proportion of the UK population and we speak for the UK too. We need to focus on keeping our voice and being heard.

Peregrina · 31/01/2020 10:01

Then just keep repeating 'time will tell won't it' every time they spout nonsense.

And when they whine about not getting Drs appointments, or food prices rising or having to get a green card and international driving licence to drive abroad - "Well, that's what you wanted, isn't it?"

PetuniaPorcupine · 31/01/2020 10:02

I'm angry, disgusted, ashamed and also very sad. I no longer want to call myself British and will avoid doing so unless it's absolutely necessary. I feel an incredible amount of anger towards the people who voted to leave and even more hatred towards the politicians who were responsible for this disaster in the first place. I'll be avoiding the news for a few days, not that I can stomach watching Boris on a good day.

TooMuchBloodyChoice · 31/01/2020 10:05

I’m actually pleased I’ve seen this thread as I thought I was alone in feeling quite sad about it. I was talking to my DC this morning about how today marks a sad day for Britain and it makes me feel really very down about it.

I’m not ok with a country that wants to be so isolated and also so anti trade/anti multicultural. Of course things have changed since imperial Britain was created - and I don’t think it’s a bad thing.

I will miss the benefits it gave me and my children and I can’t get over the sadness that they’ll grow up not being part of the EU and how that mean free movement and new experiences. I only hope their generation will be the marker for inclusivity and change which means that the UK may rejoin the EU at some point.

TheElementsOdeToJoy · 31/01/2020 10:05

I'm sad, and ashamed, and angry.

I agree. Once I've had time to mourn and calm I'm trying to think of ways to strengthen and retain our bond with the EU and its people, at least as an individual and no matter how small.

AlexaShutUp · 31/01/2020 10:06

I'm desperately sad. I cried when watching the MEPs singing earlier this week. It's such a backwards step.

I'm ashamed today to be British.

minipie · 31/01/2020 10:09

I’m sad. Depressed about what this says about this country and embarrassed about the way our politicians have conducted themselves.

CrunchyCarrot · 31/01/2020 10:21

I awoke today feeling 'flat' emotionally and sad. The weather is suitably grey and unpleasant, too. I'm not thinking about rejoining, if we do that will be very many years down the line. I'm worried the UK will break up, Scotland leaving at the very least, that's very sad to contemplate. I hope it will not turn out as badly as we fear because we (and our descendants) are the ones who are going to suffer.

Sossadtoday · 31/01/2020 10:26

I'm so very very sad, I can't believe it's happening, the dreaded day is actually here. All those marches, petitions, letters - I'm so glad I did everything in my power to try and reverse it, I can hold my head high but oh god it's so hard 😢🇪🇺

CatChant · 31/01/2020 10:47

I am sad and angry. I remember the optimism and friendliness of the atmosphere at the London 2012 Olympics and I wonder how all that goodwill became the narrow-mindedness and xenophobia unleashed by the referendum.

I will never forgive the morally bankrupt and craven politicians on the right and the left for bringing about this fiasco.

pointythings · 31/01/2020 10:51

I am sad too. My DDs and I are biding our time and planning our departure. I am so glad I have always refused to take British citizenship because it would have meant giving up my Dutch citizenship. Now at least we will have somewhere to go.

As a country the UK (and mostly England) will have to find a cure for its national tendencies towards singularity, xenophobia and delusions of Empire before there's any chance of rejoining any international collaboration.

Cohle · 31/01/2020 10:54

I'm sad.

I look at the way we have worked with Spain to evacuate citizens from Wuhan and I'm sad that cooperation like that may become rarer.

Peridot1 · 31/01/2020 11:08

I’m sad too. I’m Irish but live in UK. Flew back from Dublin to Bristol yesterday and only realised later it will be the last time there will be no passport control.

I cried watching them sing in Brussels. And was incensed by bloody Farage and his gang. Utterly embarrassing. How fucking dare they!

DontFeedTheAnimals · 31/01/2020 11:21

Yep. And I live in one of the most Brexity brexit lands, so I dare not discuss it in public.
But I am sad. And silently worried about what laws and protections this government are going to change now we've lost a layer of protection.

DontFeedTheAnimals · 31/01/2020 11:23

And when they whine about not getting Drs appointments, or food prices rising or having to get a green card and international driving licence to drive abroad - "Well, that's what you wanted, isn't it?"

And they'll bleat: "We didn't vote for this, the EU made us do this to punish us"

KizzyWayfarer · 31/01/2020 11:28

We are staring down the barrel of climate catastrophe. Yet they choose to waste billions of pounds and the equivalent in human energy and time, not to mention ripping up all our international goodwill, on this twattery which no one can come up with any actual practical benefits of...? Feeling flat and grey about it but despise those who lied to get us to this point.

CobblersandHogwash · 31/01/2020 11:30

So sad.

We are going to lose so much. For nothing.

elsaisannoying · 31/01/2020 11:31

My neighbour across the road has hung a giant British flag out of his window and put up bunking. Knob.

TheyAllFloat · 31/01/2020 11:32

Sad here too.

I understand this had to happen as a result of the referendum but, personally, I am very sad about it.

a12345b · 31/01/2020 11:38

No. Not sad. But angry. Will make my plans and leave before the country becomes even shittier. Leavers are welcome to it.

katmarie · 31/01/2020 11:41

Sad here too. Wondering what the future holds for my kids. Also I realised today that I will need to renew my passport soon, and I don't want a blue one. :(

ElenadeClermont · 31/01/2020 12:00

I am sad, but mainly angry. So angry.

BonnesVacances · 31/01/2020 12:07

My neighbour across the road has hung a giant British flag out of his window and put up bunking. Knob.

That's one benefit of Brexit. It's outed all the knobs. GrinGrin

IslandTulip · 31/01/2020 12:34

Glad to see the brainless post on the first page telling us off for talking about Brexit on the Brexit board got deleted Smile
