I'm not making a song and dance about it. I'm not falling out with anyone over it. I dont want to debate it. I'm just sad about it.

And that's ok.

Anyone else with me?

This is our Star, look after it for us

I hadnt seen that...lovely

mylaptopismylapdog · 31/01/2020 19:17

Sameday of course you are right as a younger person! My grandfather and great uncle fought in WW1, my dad in WW2. They all died young like many others in Europe and beyond, Have you ever been to a wedding where the fathers were all dead?

PatellarTendonitis · 31/01/2020 19:21

I'm sad, but pissed off, too. This is dumb AF!

Roussette · 31/01/2020 19:22

And thank you @DioneTheDiabolist for starting this thread. It's a safe corner to express our sadness at what is happening.

As James O'Brien said on LBC ... it's the hope I've had trouble dealing with, now that's gone.

Bobbybobbins · 31/01/2020 19:24

I'm sad too Sad

Sameday · 31/01/2020 19:24

Yes. We’ve all got relatives who were killed in the war.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 31/01/2020 19:25

But why are you sad?

FenellaMaxwell · 31/01/2020 19:26

Nice to see @MilkTrayLimeBarrel proving my point about inability to just read the facts laid out in front of them....

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 31/01/2020 19:28

Just get on with it - it's a fact. We are not joined at the hip to the EU state and the majority of us do not want to be.

Dreamersandwishers · 31/01/2020 19:29

@Roussette
Thanks for that link. It’s lovely. I am so disappointed it’s come to this.
I am so sad for what it may mean for our future
FWIW I am a boomer .

Roussette · 31/01/2020 19:33

@Dreamersandwishers

Me a boomer too.

Sunshinegirl82 · 31/01/2020 19:34

@milktraylimebarrel nice bit of empathy there. What did you gain from that post? Maybe have a think about why you felt the need to say anything at all.

Roussette · 31/01/2020 19:34

Just get on with it - it's a fact

I think we know that? Hence this thread...

DioneTheDiabolist · 31/01/2020 19:35

Thank you for posting that link Rousette. The sentiment of dignified sadness is beautifully summed up in the message This is our Star, look after it for us.Sad

I'm sad too.

I keep thinking of John Dunne and wondering how we got here.

I'm sad for my kids and the long term economic hardship and that it will be harder from the explore and travel, and to leave the uk if they want to.

DateLoaf · 31/01/2020 19:37

I feel sad too. Wish we could have somehow avoided this.

TheCrowFromBelow · 31/01/2020 19:38

I’m not a boomer but it doesn’t stop the DCs calling me one Grin
My DMum has put a euro flag up she’s definitely a boomer.
We are both sad today Sad
Love the Star

Roussette · 31/01/2020 19:39

I wish too. There was a huge movement fighting this but December knocked it on the head.

Ohffs66 · 31/01/2020 19:41

I guess if you're someone who lives in Britain with no plans to leave, is married to someone British, works in Britain, goes on holiday once or twice a year and plans to retire here then I can see why perhaps you wouldn't think it's a great loss

I'm so sorry if I offended anyone with this! I wasn't trying to imply that anyone in this position couldn't be sad or wouldn't understand, I was just trying to think about how someone (i.e Hester) actually couldn't understand why we would be sad, and this was literally the only possible reason I could come up with (i.e. he/she sees it as not having an impact on them at all).

bestbefore · 31/01/2020 19:43

It's all just so sad. My parents were born during the war and to me the EU was an amazing achievement in such a short space of time. To leave now seems crazy. Like people have short memories of how the world has been and what had been created.
Someone near me has union flags all over their house, I want to tear them down Sad

sweetheartyparty · 31/01/2020 19:50

I'm sad about it and avoiding all the news today. Maybe we can send a 'Farewell sad to see us go' card

midwestfornow · 31/01/2020 19:57

Just get on with it - it's a fact

You are a very unusual person if you have never felt sorrow about something because it is a fact.
Often it is because something is fact that it causes sorrow.
It is not possible in life to dictate other people's emotional responses to events.

Squigglypig2 · 31/01/2020 19:59

Me too. A victory for stupidity.

Dividednation · 31/01/2020 20:02

I'm sad and still angry. I've tried not to be but I am. Fucking livid about it. Just saw Channel 4 News report. From a pub in South Shields with the customers all having a Brexit party, wearing Union Jack t-shirts, drinking pints, waving flags and singing kareoke and chanting stuff. I felt sick. They all looked over 70, and in no way represented the future. They didn't even sound like they fully understood the Brexit withdrawal agreement. Sorry but they didn't. FFS.

Roussette · 31/01/2020 20:07

I'm an old sod and I remember entering the 'Common Market'... 67% voted Yes. 33% No. That was a big thing. I was a teen and remember thinking Wahoooo I can go to Europe and find exciting adventures!

And then it moved on to the European Community and the Maastricht Treaty...
And here we are. Out.
