Our final week in the EU...

The UK played a huge part in the fight to liberate Europe from extremism partly because it recognised that we are all human and all deserve respect and equality.

Ordinary working people did. Having just been reading about the Mitford sisters it brought home to me just how anti -Semitic the upper and upper middle classes were and how they were quite happy with what Hitler was doing. He eventually went too far even for most of them and they started rewriting their personal histories quick smart.

colouringinpro · 31/01/2020 10:56

Just wanted to pop in and say a huge thanks to everyone on these amazing and informative threads, esp RTB. I'm steering clear of everything online now as it's all too sad (LedByDonkeys you're amazing too).

See you on the other side...

Less than 12 hours to go

DGRossetti · 31/01/2020 11:15

just how anti -Semitic the upper and upper middle classes were and how they were quite happy with what Hitler was doing.

Going back into history, it's because only Jews could lend money, so most of Europe ended up in hock to them. Hence anything which helped remove them (and the debts they held) was seen as a good deal. Then someone in the Vatican discovered that there had been a terrible mistake, and Christians were allowed to lend money after all.

I don't really have much time for religions and peoples imaginary friends, but the way Islam cracked the thorny problem of money lending is interesting. Just goes to show what you can do with a bit of imagination, to return to an ongoing theme of these threads.

Fewer, Mystery

yolofish · 31/01/2020 11:33

Actually, I have thought of one GOOD thing about tomorrow... it's not January anymore! Just walked round the garden, things are coming into bud, snowdrops and primroses are out

derxa · 31/01/2020 11:35

It's been something that's happening for some considerable time. The warnings about this movement aren't new. And every journalist worth their salt should understand how the culture war works and to try not to feed it because it undermines the very principles of their profession. Yet most are either blind to it, or fully paid up disciples of it. I agree.

MysteryTripAgain · 31/01/2020 11:58

Fewer, Mystery

Less than of fewer. The physical effect is the same. UK is closer to leaving the EU every time the clock ticks.

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2020 12:02

Less than of fewer.
Ah. Right.

DGRossetti · 31/01/2020 12:14

Sometimes when you can't describe how you feel in words.

Less than of fewer
Ah. Right.

Another remoaner who thinks that if a leave supporter makes a typo then Brexit has to be cancelled.

Less than or fewer than it is the same physical reality.

As this is being typed UK is now 10 hours and 30 minutes away from leaving the EU

pointythings · 31/01/2020 12:40

You would think that those glorifying England's independence would have a little more concern for its language. If that was a typo, I am a langoustine.

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2020 12:42

Or a beluga.

MysteryTripAgain · 31/01/2020 12:49

If that was a typo, I am a langoustine

If you look a a standard QWERTY keyboard you will see that the R key is above the F key. So in haste (or excitement) it is easy to hit the wrong key.

More desparation by remoaners.

As I look at the wall clock UK will leave the EU in 10 hours, 14 minutes and 50 seconds.

sovielverloren · 31/01/2020 12:55

Just popping in, in deep desolation, to share a horrible coincidence of timing which only serves to rub my nose in it. My new passport (henceforth to be known as the crappy passport of Little England) will arrive tomorrow.

Cupofteaandtoilet · 31/01/2020 13:01

Why are you on these threads Mystery? You're just trolling and being unnecessarily goady. Surely you have something better to go with your time?

MysteryTripAgain · 31/01/2020 13:02

My new passport (henceforth to be known as the crappy passport of Little England) will arrive tomorrow.

Incorrect. I am answering posts.

Cupofteaandtoilet · 31/01/2020 13:07

Less than 12 hours to go was in answer to which post?

MysteryTripAgain · 31/01/2020 13:10

Less than 12 hours to go was in answer to which post?

To all posts that suggest Brexit; is wrong (even though it was a majorit yvote), those that continually promote "we know better", etc.

AuldAlliance · 31/01/2020 13:12

Mystery is not answering anything much but is apparently sitting staring at a wall clock and posting with increasing vehemence on random Brexit threads to inform people how many hours, minutes and seconds are left before 11pm.

As symbols go, it's quite apt, I suppose.

TheElementsOdeToJoy · 31/01/2020 13:18

For many Leavers, pretty much the entire point and pleasure of Brexit, apparently, is that it causes discomfort to the evil enemy Remainers. Hence the gloating and goading. Because the idea of exacerbating the discomfort of enemies is titillating.

Perhaps we could help our new patriotic TruBrit Winners by offering to increase our discomfort - I'll go first: I shall wear my pinchy boots that never properly broke in, and I shall put skimmed milk in my tea.

(Although perhaps voluntary enemy discomfort doesn't provide the same level of psychosexual stimulation? 🤔)

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 31/01/2020 13:21

Incorrect. I am answering posts

Yes

Cos calling people remoaners isnt goady in the slightest

Name calling isnt goady at all Hmm

StarryGazeyEyes · 31/01/2020 13:23

Re racism becoming normalised, Katie Hopkins being utterly repulsive is no great wonder to anyone, but she's been well played here. The shocking thing to me is the impunity with which she speaks, and she's not alone in the current climate. I reckon that's the most frightening thing about this whole shitfest. here

Frankiestein402 · 31/01/2020 13:25

What mystery is not saying is which of the EU institutions/agencies s/he wants Boris to negotiate relationships with - because s/he hasn't a clue. Trade is just one aspect of our relationship with the EU.
