EU Settlement Scheme and the app

I have a friend who needs to apply for settled status, her husband and (adult) son also need to apply as do her parents and brother so six of them in all.

For various reasons none of them will find it easy to do the process themselves so I am thinking of offering to help them do it. What I wanted to know is does anyone know if I can use my phone for all six applications?

Has anyone used the app? It looks quite simple but that might be deceptive.

I'd suggest having a look at www.the3million.org.uk/

You should find helpful info and links to organisations that can provide support if you need it.

Yes you can! I have just started applying for EU settlement for myself this week. I am an EU citizen, but my DH is British. I also had to apply for my mum this week who is also an EU citizen.

I couldn't download the app onto my phone (too old ) so asked DH to download the app on his phone. We used his phone for both me and my mum to do the initial bit : take a photo of your passport, scan the passport chip, take a photo of yourself, enter information etc.

The app was generally OK. Taking a photo of yourself/person applying was a real pain. For example I had to take my mum's photo about 20 times before we got it right, it is very fussy ( e.g. the app kept rejecting the photo because it was too dark, unable to see her eyes, due to background items in the photo) But we got there in the end.

The other bit of advice is make sure before you start you have everyone's National Insurance number, an email address and a mobile phone number they could use and you know their DOB..

Once you have done the intial passport/ID verification bit for them, they can complete the application by themselves on any computer.

Hope that helps.

Yes you can :)

I forgot to say, every time someone logs in to complete the application process online, it will ask where it should send the new security code (to a mobile phone or email address) Yes, that's right every single time! You cannot proceed unless you enter this new code each time. Since you are maybe helping 6 people, it may be better to have different mobile phone numbers or email addresses for each person as it can get very confusing if you just use your phone or your email address for everyone!

Thank you so much, you have all been really helpful. :)

I think I may do them in pairs, in theory we have a little while. The oldest people that need doing are in their late 80s and are quite bewildered about it all so I think I will leave them until I am confident about what I am doing.

My friend called their call centre and they stayed on the line with her while she did it and helped her through, you could do that for the first one then you may be more confident with the rest?

Sounds like a fucking nightmare. Good luck.

didn't bother with the app. apparently my phone is the wrong model. But local city council were doing this, so i just went there and there were no problems.
