No, not yet, but soon. Just 24 more sleeps until we legally leave the EU at 11pm on 31 January and finally enter the transition period after what seems like centuries of argument, dither and delay. We do so with hope, optimism and a determination to be a good friend and neighbour to the EU, but for now, no one said it better than Winston Churchill.

“This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning.”

The Pub Rule is the same as it always was: all welcome but only if you leave goadery outside. The first drink is on the house.

Lisa Nandy was interviewed by Andrew Neil tonight. She was nice (I like her) friendly, had reasonable answers (complained politely AN didn't give her enough time, shrug).

But... she didn't come across as a strong leader (no experience), I didn't understand her position on Trident, or Brexit, she had some weird policy about socialism Confused and also wanted to nationalise everything Corbyn did.

Lots of sound bites, no substance, which is a shame as she was my preferred candidate.

A question for y'all

Boris has said that he'll get a trade deal with the EU done before the end of 2020, no more extensions.
What are the key points you hope to see in the deal
that differ from the current arrangements ?

Walkingdeadfangirl · 15/01/2020 21:39

What are the key points you hope to see in the deal
If that is a genuine question....
That we are not in the SM or CU. Not controlled by the ECJ and we aren't paying shed loads of money for the privilege.

Next?

SilverySurfer · 15/01/2020 21:45

Sorry but I no longer answer remainers' questions.

I used to but soon learned that no matter what I said, remainers were insistent that I was wrong, racist, xenophobic, stupid, thick as pig shit was particularly memorable and I came to the conclusion that they really had zero interest in what I had to say, they just wanted an opportunity to be shitty to/about me.

I think you will find a lot of Leavers feel the same way.

howabout · 15/01/2020 22:20

Listening do you not have anything to contribute? Would be interested in your ideal trade deal.

Miljea · 15/01/2020 22:34

Well, bit of a shit week for us. Our two EU staff announced their departure from our frontline NHS job this week. Two!

That's 20% of us. We are screwed. Better hoe into happy hour or whatever.

I am so sad that such great, competent staff have decided this situation isn't for them.

And, why does Dusty not consider the deaths of 176 people on Jan 8th, in Iran, as being of note? Something about there being no 'come back' from Iran? Not sure I understand that.

Miljea · 15/01/2020 22:40

howabout to be fair, any 'trade deal ' will be on the EU's terms, or America's, or India's.

I suspect this offers a great opportunity for many. Who gets to benefit remains a moot point. I suspect many on here see themselves as the winners in all this, and yes, some will be.

Maybe that's what this is all about.

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 07:22

Morning, all,

The WAB reaches the third day of the committee stage in the HoL today and is scheduled to proceed to report stage on Monday. No excitement, then, until Wednesday when the Lords' amendments are due to be considered in the HoC.

It's all rather sedate, isn't it? Even PMQs were relatively calm, thanks to the serene authority of the Speaker.

In other news, Momentum is expected to declare at noon today who it has agreed to back as leader and deputy leader but it may not be a foregone conclusion. Members of Momentum have no more of a hive mind than we Leavers do: something that the passing trade might care to bear in mind.

The complimentary breakfast tray today features toasted cinnamon and raisin bagels. Please help yourselves.

Morning all! Brew

Have not posted for ages but have been reading - real life getting in the way unfortunately 🙄

Love the 17 million fuck offs song - will download it later (would be hilarious if it was number 1 on 31st... much gnashing of teeth from the hardliners would no doubt ensue)

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 07:38

Good morning, Dusty, I've been wondering where you were so it's good to have you back. Now if only I could remember where we put Epic for safekeeping...

I didn't say anything remotely like this

Yet more lies from the Arms's pet Pinocchio 🙄đŸ¤Ĩ

Not remotely surprised that 20% of đŸ¤Ĩ colleagues quit work either tbh - must be draining to navigate the minefield of non-truth every day 🤷đŸģ‍♀ī¸

DustyDiamond · 16/01/2020 07:42

Been very distracted with other stuff Lily - 14 yr old has fully embraced 'teenage twat' mode now & it's proving a bumpy ride... 😩

Also back at work & a massive backlog from being off over Xmas 😩😩

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 07:53

You may have a point, Dusty Grin. I've often wondered whether some posters are every bit as disagreeable in RL as they are on here but I wonder no more.

Fourteen year old DS...my sympathy. One day, you'll look back on these times and smile. Hopefully.

I live in eternal hope as ever Lily 😩😂

His big brother emerged as a lovely young man at about 16 & half - am hoping the same applies with this one...

Unfortunately, youngest has always been my 'spirited' child so I fear the next 2 years will be exceptionally bumpy 😱

ListeningQuietly · 16/01/2020 09:04

howabout
I'd like the trade deal that protects workers rights, food standards, environmental protections and the UK's service and finance industry.
luckily its tried and tested

What trade deal do you want ?
Genuine question ...

howabout · 16/01/2020 09:28

Listening I prefer a trade deal which leaves the UK Govt, as appointed by UK voters to protect workers rights, food standards and environment protections. In all 3 areas UK standards exceed the EU and the direction of travel will likely be to increase the margin. The UK is not seeking to outcompete EU exporters and as a net importer of goods from everywhere has an opportunity to demand higher standards imo.

The EU single market in services and finance does not currently exist. However I believe common sense and pragmatism will prevail in maintaining access to International markets for the EU via London. Mark Carney seems to think maintaining Independence for London is preferable and that would also be my instinct.

howabout · 16/01/2020 09:42

Morning all Brew

Big welcome back Hug for Dusty. I am similarly afflicted with stroppy DD2. She of the cured tonsils is doing her prelims and flexing for all she's worth cos her nose is out of joint from her big sister being back for the best part of a month.

You could try playing 17m F* Offs to your DD2. I have been riffing on Big Ben Bonging alliteration all morning to avoid being drawn in. DD2 is 17 and showing no sign of mellowing out but she takes after DH and me so there is little hope. Grin

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/01/2020 09:55

Morning all. Just bought '17 Million Fuck-Offs', makes me proud to be British. They can all go and FUCK-OFF (who is the weird one in the glasses?).

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 10:02

Morning, Howabout, DD2 is just doing that thing of testing the boundaries. You'll both come through it Smile

Mr Lily and I have been invited to a dinner with Dominic Raab on 31 January, when he will propose a toast at 11pm to mark our independence.

Actually, it's not Dominic Raab. I only said that to get Dusty's immediate attention. It's the Attorney General, Robert Buckland. And it won't just be me and Mr Lily. There'll be hundreds of guests. We'll probably be hiding somewhere at the back of the throng.

Even so, the AG must be so excited. Grin

Lordy! You tease...!!

Coppersulphate · 16/01/2020 12:14

Just bought the 17 million f...k offs.
I thought the weird one with the glasses was Corbyn. Perhaps not. But whom?

SingingLily · 16/01/2020 13:10

Lordy! You tease...!!

I could always ask the AG to pass a message to Dom for you, Dusty. After all, if I can manage to get Yolo's name into a conversation about grammar schools with Beth Rigby and make it sound unremarkable, saying "Tell Dom Dusty sends her love" should be a breeze. Grin

I thought the weird one with the glasses was Corbyn.

SmileCopperSulphate, you could be right. However, what really cheers me up is the fact that Jezza managed to acquire an even bigger 23 million F-offs in the GE - including two million from his own Labour voters.

He's done more to unify the nation post-Brexit than anyone.

OP posts:
howabout · 16/01/2020 13:36

Bit of top trolling from Brendan O'Neill:

"Sadiq Khan is moaning about the Brexit celebrations planned for 31st January. He should remember that more Londoners voted for Brexit than for him. Brexit is more popular in London than he is".
