Brexit

What are you most looking forward to POST-Brexit?

I was a remain voter, and voted tactically against the Tories. I lost.

But onwards and upwards! We’re getting Brexit in January, like it or not, so I was just wondering what everyone was looking forward to the most?

I asked on a different pro-Brexit thread but nobody gave me an answer.

For me it’s the 350 million to the NHS with no trade deals with Trump. Or the continuing Peace in NI with no messing around with the GFA. Or the trade deals we’ve been promised without any reduction in standards.

I’m so ready to be convinced of how brilliant Brexit will be! Let me hear your positives, please Flowers

@Clavinova - why are you so concerned about Erasmus? It’s good to have but probably not on anyone’s radar when there are trade deals, MFN issues and supply chain to protect first.

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:17

With a full cost of living loan and 280 a month should add up to over 12k for the year. Most should be able to cover the cost of Erasmus using that.

None of mine got 1k a month to live on!

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:18

Erasmus is on Clavs radar as she thinks it shows that the EU only benefits the middle class.

She's wrong as usual

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:23

No doubt she'll be desperately googling away now.

jasjas1973 · 28/12/2019 14:32

Like it or not, the move from grants to mtce loans is about parental support, my DD gets 7.4k (max is 8.7k) pays 5.5k in rent, has to pay out all her placement costs up front, inc accomodation and travel, needs a laptop, printer, books.
She works as a community carer during hols but still needs help as she needs a car for this job... just had to have a new clutch fitted, so what she earned this xmas has gone.

Erasmus at least provides extra support for those from poorer households and according to that Edinburgh Uni site, the (70%) grant is paid within 2 weeks of start of the overseas course... and the grant is on top of the student mtce loan.

However, in the event of a no-deal, it will up to the overseas Uni to accept the govt's payment guarantee....... for students in the program for this academic year.

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 14:32

Erasmus is on Clavs radar as she thinks it shows that the EU only benefits the middle class.

Mostly middle class and high achieving students benefit from a full year away.

With a full cost of living loan and 280 a month should add up to over 12k for the year

If you live at home (UK) and have a part-time job you might not need to take out a maintenance loan.

Thornhill58 · 28/12/2019 14:38

I looking forward not to be self governing democratic country. Able to trade and not to pay billions of pounds to a failing block. My main concern right now is the collapse of the German back and subsequent liabilities that come with it.
I'm also looking forward to inward investment. Too many benefits for the UK.

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:40

You could take one out for a year abroad if you wanted though.

Squirm away clav.

The middle classes will still get to go, the poorer won't even have the chance.

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:40

Why is the EU a failing block? Back this with evidence please

Parker231 · 28/12/2019 14:44

@Thornhill58 - how do you think the UK can replicate or better the current trade deals it has with the EU? Where is the inward investment going to come from?

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:46

The inward investment is going to come from the billions saved from funding the failing EU.

As established last night this is under 1 percent of public spending so has to go far.

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 14:48

Squirm away clav.

I'm not squirming at all - I think you look a little foolish.

malylis · 28/12/2019 14:57

Really? As pointed out the full maintenance loan plus erasmus gives any lower income student plenty of opportunity to go abroad. Your links use no real data, the stuff about high achieving young women benefiting more will be down to them being the largest numbers on foreign language degrees so is easily explained.

Squirm away. Most lower income students take both loans.

Only 23 percent of all students live at home and whilst its higher for low income students still more than 50 percent live away from home. See the " Away from home" study.

You look rather foolish. The majority of low incone students live away from home

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 15:13

Comments such as:

"Does Clav always run away?" "She's wrong as usual" "Squirm away clav" make you look intelligent do they? Wink

TheSandman · 28/12/2019 15:16

Scottish Independence.

malylis · 28/12/2019 15:24

But you did run away right in the middle of a debate.

desperate googling and endless c and p don't make you look clever at all.

Care to comment on the data I just gave you?

No?

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 15:26

But you did run away right in the middle of a debate.

It was 11pm!

malylis · 28/12/2019 15:28

Or was it because your figures got pulled apart?

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 15:44

Or was it because your figures got pulled apart?

You said my figures were out of date - at least I was quoting Erasmus stats - you haven't quoted any.

Care to comment on the data I just gave you?

Yes - the Sutton Trust, Home and Away Report? Using data from 2014/15 and 2009-10?

Much too out of date to be of any use according to you. Wink

Clavinova · 28/12/2019 15:50

I really do have to go out now. Grin

Peregrina · 28/12/2019 15:52

I am not quite sure what is eating Clavinova - her side won; she should just be happy to let events play out.

Mind you, I recall one Nigel Farage crowing a few months ago. Remind me how many seats his party won a couple of weeks ago.

malylis · 28/12/2019 15:53

The data you used was prior to changes in Erasmus, please tell me what has changed since 14/15 ?

Your claims are erroneous, the whole "only benefits the middle class" schtick is crap and has been proved so.

run along now

ListeningQuietly · 28/12/2019 16:27

At least will will get lots of razor clams

CrissmussMockers · 28/12/2019 16:29

Oh yes, modern dynamic GB sitting back and watching while the German economy collapses.

Nurse, the screens.

malylis · 28/12/2019 16:33

It has to be said all of those rubbing their hands about the German economy (grew faster in two quarters this year than the UK, faster for the last 10 years, lower national debt, fiscal surplis, current account surplus) don't really know much about economics nor the impact of the German economy stalling on the UK
