If EU membership was such an economic 'disaster' for the U.K. then how come we were the fifth richest country in the world during the period of our membership
Never been convinced that UK is, or ever was, the 5th richest country in the World. Economies are measured in turnover as opposed to profit. The large banking system distorts the UK figures big time.
For example, who is richer? The company that has a turnover of £1 Billion, but does not make a profit or a company with £100 Million turnover that makes £10 million profit?
Since UK joined the EU its individual growth has been about 44%. Over same period EU has grown by 26%. Reason for difference is that the wealthy EU members are subsiding the weaker EU members. Never forget that of the 28 EU members only 10 pay in and 18 take out. How is that sustainable?
There are no economic forecasts suggesting that we will be better off after membership is ditched
Depends which reports and newspapers you read.
In order for Brexit to move us from the 'disastrous' position of 5 th place - we would need to rise to 4th,3rd,2nd or 1st position internationally
Not possible as expanding economy such as India will soon displace; Germany, France and the UK down the world rankings anyway.
