Brexit Arms: Election Night Lock-In

Welcome to the Brexit Arms - it's going to be a stormy old night! We're about to be buffeted from right to left and back again with no real idea what the landscape will finally look like in the morning. All are welcome to weather the storm in the warmth and safety of the Arms - but please remember this a hospitable establishment so let's try and keep it that way.

We're kicking off the evening with our Back to the 70's theme night while we wait for the big main event to unfold. The juke box is loaded with all your 70's favourites. Feel free to dance round your handbags but please, no dancing on the tables…. this could be seen as having too much fun.

As always, we've got a nice big pot of PG Tips on the brew and Camp coffee by the mugfuls in addition to our usual alcoholic beverages.

On a serious note, we know that tonight's events are going to cause some upsets. With this in mind, the mint imperial bowls on the bar have been filled with Diocalms and we urge all our customers to make use of these. There should be enough to go round as long as nobody starts trying to stockpile. We simply cannot risk the need for plumbers to unblock our loos on Friday morning, as they could have been called out on strike by then.

Landladies on duty tonight will be:

20:00-22:00 Greenish (with Babychams, Cherry B's and vol au vents)
2200-midnight Twattage (with Classic Dmitris and cheeseboard)
Midnight-0200 Singing (with stiff brandies to calm the nerves, plus a selection of fresh nuts)
0200-0400 Hate (possibly with Albanian delicacies and a hangover cure)

We'd like to get the glitter ball turning with this absolute classic:

….fingers crossed similar scenes will abound in the Arms by the end of tonight. Enjoy!

P.s. When ordering drinks between 8pm and 10pm please supply your own drinks emojis. Thankyou!

Indeed it is epic, I feel such relief too, we can mostly forget about it now and trust them to get on with it!!

Mournful atmosphere at work however....
When I got in my car I yelled gratitude!

I do feel sad however seeing older people from deprived areas explaining why they couldn't vote for Labour anymore... Saying people like thornberry and Tom Watson saying they are thick and stupid... That's really sad, they were loyal to the Labour Party their whole lives....

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 17:22

Is that Steve bray gone bezzerk?

Is that the Mad Remainer with the loudhailer?

Has anyone told him that Bray is just his surname, not an lifetime instruction? He doesn't have to personify it.

notangelinajolie · 13/12/2019 17:27

Yes, thanks Lily I'm feeling much better.

Refighting the tired old arguments of the referendum? That ship has sailed.
Second referendum? That ship has also sailed.
Denying democracy? That ship has sailed too.

Absolutely couldn't agree more.

One thing all these MP's should take note of is that real democracy happens in the privacy of the ballot box.

Haha Beth Rigby on Sky has just said that Labour are now a Metropolitan Rump Party. The Rumps - I like that Smile I feel strangely giddy today and I don't think it's the Pina Colada because I've only had one.

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 17:32

Beth Rigby? She must be stuck in the first stage of grief.

Give me Andrew Neil any day. Even Jeremy Paxman. They are hard-nosed interviewers but they are equal opportunities hard-noses interviewers. They give no quarter to anyone.

A little late in the day but here is today's Telegraph cartoon.

These are our choices now.

ah no, you can have and own your victory, but DON'T diss Beth Rigby! I love her, she is the opposite of your classic blonde, well spoken political reporter (naming no names Laura K). Seriously, dissing Beth will NOT go down well. Red Wine please, or is that a tautology?

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 17:55

😁Yolofish, 🍷 for you.

Confession. Beth is an acquaintance. Trust me. She's almost certainly stuck in the first stage of grief. Grin

yolofish · 13/12/2019 18:53

singing tell Beth I bloody LOVE her! She is so refreshing as a political reporter. huge fan Wine

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 19:31

Popping back in for a catch up - still haven't slept 😩

That cartoon sums up exactly how I feel today - it's exciting!

And it is indeed just the end of the beginning...

I do honestly think it'll help everyone to move on now there will be no more fighting about whether or not we actually Brexit - that should never have been in question at all

The real fight should always have been how we Brexit, but Corbyn & McDonnell were too obsessed with game-playing & sniffing for power/humiliating TM to see the bigger picture 😟

This is now a golden moment - Labour can sort their shit out & become a credible alternative finally, hopefully Lib Dems will take stock of how bloody awful & unpalatable to the majority their obsession with woke ideology is.

I don't want Scotland to break away, but there might be scope for a more federalised type of union instead of complete separation?

All in all, everything is up for grabs now!

On Laura & Beth, I really like the both of them - Beth gets a lot of stick from the right & Laura from the left - it's rubbish for the pair of them really, they can't win 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm off to try & get some sleep now I think - my eyes are starting to roll back into my head like a great white 🦈 😩😩😩

notangelinajolie · 13/12/2019 19:42

Beth was sitting on the floor in a long white coat outside number 10 earlier. I think she was trying to not get noticed standing next to Boris's campaign team. It didn't work - white is such a bright colour Smile

What happens next? Will there be a new cabinet?

The80sweregreat · 13/12/2019 19:42

Move on? Brexit will carry on for years and years! People just don't realise it yet.

DustyDiamond · 13/12/2019 19:44

Am back - is anyone watching Sky News??

The protests outside and all the shouting!!

"Boris Johnson not my Prime Minister"

Socialist Workers Party banners 🙄🙄🙄

Singing for Jezbollah

AutumnRose1 · 13/12/2019 19:47

Dusty I literally just had mum on the phone saying “hasn’t anyone started a noisy protest yet” and I said, no, that will be tomorrow!

Mum right again. (She also predicted a landslide victory).

Saucery · 13/12/2019 19:48

Move on to actually being able to start Brexit process, 80s. Which will be good.

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 19:51

😂🤣Will be seeing her over the Christmas period, Yolofish, and normally would be glad to. However, I'm not sure how I'll tell her without (a) making Yolofish sound like a codeword and (b) admitting I'm on Mumsnet. Grin

The80sweregreat · 13/12/2019 19:51

I'm not disputing that moving on from brexit will be a good thing, it's just that it will still take ages that won't!

AutumnRose1 · 13/12/2019 19:57

Oh, I see the protest was organised from 5.30

Thank goodness I wasn’t in work today

Thistimetomorrow · 13/12/2019 20:03

Good evening patrons. Didn’t sleep much last night.
Dusty I saw on one of my Facebook groups that they were staging a protest tonight in Downing Street. They’ve named themselves the People’s something or other, and more news from my least favourite person - Gina Miller she admits new plot to wreck Boris’ Brexit by halting his deal.

notangelinajolie · 13/12/2019 20:03

I'm watching Dusty The children are having a tantrum and throwing their rattles out of their prams.

Thistimetomorrow · 13/12/2019 20:06

Singing you could say Yolos a friend you met in a bar. Not telling any lies 😁

XingMing · 13/12/2019 20:10

My DH said he knew the result sub-consciously before he woke up because I was trying so hard not to wriggle with excitement at 4:00am. That's what 30 years of marriage does to communication skills. He can read my body language asleep. What mystery is left?

I really hope that Labour do serious thinking over the festive season, and return to HoC with determination to (a) enlist the input of their more successful predecessors, like Alan Johnson and David Blunkett, and (b) willing to tackle some of the really heavy cross party lifting that needs doing on the UC fiasco, the NHS and social care. IMO, all three are too fundamental to be left to party spinmeisters.

If the credible members of the Labour party lend their weight and ideas, the end result will be far superior to anything one party could achieve alone. Please talk to Frank Field, for example. Then, next time, I can consider voting for my rather good Labour candidate, who very carefully ducked any mention of his 'leadership' in every piece of campaign literature.

I am glad it's done, but also excited to see what happens in January. And I'd like to take this lend of my megaphone to wish you all a marvellous and very Merry Christmas.

Drink anyone?

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 20:18

😂🤣😂🤣Thistimetomorrow

AutumnRose1 · 13/12/2019 20:22

Xing why thank you 🥂

I like Frank Field too.

RaiseaGlasstoFreedom · 13/12/2019 20:34

That's amazing I'd frame that singing.

Perfect.

XingMing · 13/12/2019 20:35

Autumn, I know we've crossed posts in the last few weeks, but person-to-person, please know that none of it has been personal.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 13/12/2019 20:35

What is all this nonsense coming from the wee Sturgeon?

In the 2014 referendum she got 1.6 mil votes to leave
In the 2015 election she got 1.4 mil votes
Yesterday she got 1.2 mil votes

How is that an overwhelming mandate for another referendum?
