First off, comrade Hilda has been busy in the propaganda dept! Praise be to Hilda! The dear leader will appreciate and reward your efforts with a cushy job in the newly opened Ministry of Bullshit. ✊🥀

Specials board.

⭐️ Snacks.

•Salty Bar nuts
(we always have too many)

•Marrow crisps,
I know you all hate them, but we had a glut and needed to do something with them. 🤷🏻‍♀️😬

⭐️ Mains.

A festive choice of...

•’Properly Stuffed’ “Christmas voting” Turkey.

•Festive Glazed Gammons.

•Goose that laid the Gilded socialist egg.

•’Whigs’ in blankets.

•Sauce for the Goose and Sauce for the Gander

•Brussels’ sprouts.
Divisive, yet still popular in some quarters...

•Neeps and tatties.
Grown in Corbyn’s Communist plot and kindly gifted back to us by the SNP.

⭐️Festive Drinks.

•Rebecca’s long Baileys.
Seems nice enough, but can be vicious if you have too much.

•Corbyn’s Victory Gin.
State sanctioned by big brother.

•Bag in, artisan Earl Grey Cocktail.
A Boris election special.

•Red flag Rum.
for the singing socialists among us.

•Egg nog.
Gifted by Trump. Sticks in your throat a bit, but it’s polite to drink it and pretend to half enjoy it anyway.

•The #ClassicDmitri.
Shaken and stirred. A Russian Vodka based Cocktail, shrouded in mystery and intrigue. No one really knows how it came to exist, but all we know is, that it might have happened. Somewhere. And now it’s on the menu. Enjoy!

⭐️Desserts.

•Imported Panettone.
Get it fast, I’m reliably informed we will never ever have it again post Brexit.

•Traditional Christmas pudding.
have a good look for that old fashioned sixpence inside, we might need it when all the money runs out.

•Damson jam steamed pudding.
I’m told by the suppliers, that It’s like the infamous Mumsnet chicken, we can get eleventy billion servings from it and still have more for the freezer.

As always, welcome to all who pass through this place, but, as ever please observe the sign above the bar. If you can’t read it. It says...

DON’T BE A TWAT.

And for the person who said earlier on “all politicians lie” - congratulations Dominic Cummings would be very proud of you
Politicians have always sometimes lied to some people some of the time (welcome to life). But these lot lie as a matter of policy deliberately and most of the time. And you are falling for it - which means rather than getting fallible human leaders (the past) you are now getting deeply cynical authoritarian leaders... the genius is to convince you that everyone is as bad as the other so you can choose the lies you personally prefer... it worked a charm in the 1930s...

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 07/12/2019 00:16

Evening Milkyway, what are you drinking?

I can highly recommend the #Classicdmitri? 🍸

Don’t drink - which is possibly one of the reasons I find this election so depressing. But always up for an orange juice Smile

Milkywayfan · 07/12/2019 00:20

Sleep well - and will keep an eye on the thread in between normal weekend life and actual canvassing. Smile

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 07/12/2019 00:20

Orange juice 🥤 on the bar for you! Night!

Epic “ Cocktale”

I though that was deliberate Blush

Milkywayfan · 07/12/2019 00:30

And if anyone needs something to read with their cocoa (or late night red wine) strongly recommend this thread by a telegraph journalist on NI

If I have linked right - if not try peter foster pmdfoster who is much cleverer than me on the trade offs and balance we have to decide first
Cottage pie mentioned mid thread !
Night all zzz

You're so right!

Corbyn, McDonnell & chums are serial deniers of truth - especially wrt their terrorist sympathies & actions of the past.

Definitely shades of the 1930s I agree - even down to the antisemitism.

You might have missed it but there was an article linked previously (the last thread I think) about how Marxist theory underpinned Hitler's National Socialism & I do think this is relevant to the current climate wrt Corbyn & co

Walkingdeadfangirl · 07/12/2019 00:55

I ate Milkyways when I was a child. Now I am an adult I realise they are bad for me. 😫😫😫😫

Milkywayfan · 07/12/2019 01:07

Completely agree with you about corbyn and anti semitism - look at what has happened and it is clearly anti semitism

One of the sheer joys of this election is that both main parties have moved to the extremes with strong echoes of the 1930a which is why I won’t vote for either of them. Long known that extreme right and left end up in same place
And I also over did milky ways in the 70s - now try to eat only the odd one Smile

DustyDiamond · 07/12/2019 01:12

The sweet you can eat between meals without ruining your appetite!!

I disagree that the Tories have lurched to extreme tbh - people say that Brexit is an extreme right policy but I don't think it is

The Tories policies other than Brexit are pretty centrist imo

DustyDiamond · 07/12/2019 01:31

The red 🚗 and the blue 🚙 had a race....

But all Red wants to do is stuff his face 🙄

He eats everything he sees,

And I thought I had a monopoly on insomnia!

which is why I won’t vote for either of them

I'm rather hoping, Milkywayfan, that this means you are voting LibDem. Right now, LibDem voters hold a special place in my heart. There just aren't enough of them and so I do whatever I can to encourage them. In the spirit of goodwill, I raise my glass of #ClassicDmitri to you (my usual tipple is builders brew, so you can see how much this means to me).

And in other news, from the Evening Standard:

"Labour orders no crying on election night.
^
There are reports that Labour members have received training on how not to cry after the exit poll is released. The advice was given at a training day for more usual campaigning, such as "How to act at an election count" and "How to get out the vote on polling day".

A Labour staffer told The Evening Standard: "When we heard that there was going to be a new strategy in the final weeks, I had no idea 'lose, but don't cry about it' was what they had in mind."^

I think this is just lovely. Evidence of a kinder, gentler politics, you might say. After all, we don't have access to the Labour Party's internal polling so it's good to know that they have some organisational skills after all.

SingingLily · 07/12/2019 06:14

Oh, and quite by chance, I read the Peter Foster article before heading over here.

If you are a fellow Telegraph reader, you'll know that Peter has never really got through the five stages of grief regarding his beloved EU. I think he's still stuck in Stage 3 but the Telegraph kindly perseveres with him in order to provide some counter-balance.

Anyway, the point is that Peter forgot to mention that Northern Ireland grows carrots too. No need to ship them over from Lincolnshire at all. In fact, what sort of idiot would do that, because, you know...local jobs...and the environment. Bit of a silly example for him to choose but that's Peter all over.

HateIsNotGood · 07/12/2019 07:42

Morning All - I've brought my own coffee, but I'll fire up the machine and put a packet of biscuits on the bar. Insomnia has been my prob too, thankfully the Leader Debate last night put me straight to sleep, before either had spoken a word.

I haven't had much to say, so haven't posted. But here's a summary:

Boris' speaking style - it has occurred to me that he might have a speech impediment (similar to a stutter) and has done rather well to disguise it over the years.

JC's glasses - I too have this problem, my glasses always go wonky. I think it's something to do with naturally irregular distances between ear and nose heights. They looked a lot straighter last night (before I went to sleep) and if he has an eye problem or has had a stroke people shouldn't make fun of him, ditto BJ and his speaking manner.

Gammon - I saw this offensive term again recently. It's racist and shouldn't be used.

I had a waivering moment this week - the Independant candidate in my constituency is actually Independent, not previously another party in disguise. With some off the wall ideas that I tend to agree with and normally he would get my vote. Tough one for me - but I'm going to hold fast.

McDonnell's webchat - I couldn't really get past how many times he said "let's be clear" but then that's a thing of mine at the moment, clearly. Bellini asked the best question, which he didn't answer.

At last - I heard some utterances from JC and McD this week that I agreed with - regarding the Iraq War, that it has seriously affected the global scale of terrorism, particularly Jihad. They even said this was done under a Labour Govt, but couldn't quite bring themselves to name Tony Blair as the perpetrator, which would have gained more points with me.

Milkyway - agree Get Brexit Started is a better description than Done. Disagree about the Fishing Industry - it's ridiculous that our fisherman export so much and UK consumers eat so much imported fish. It's cheaper, tastier and far more environmentally-friendly to eat our own catches. UK set quotas based on sustainability can still be set.

Wow, that's enough from me for now - just hope I don't get sucked into the hole this weekend, too much other crap to get on with.

SingingLily · 07/12/2019 08:16

Morning, Hate,

Never thought that Boris might have a speech impediment. He does gabble a lot (his written work, though, is always an education; there are always at least two words or phrases I've never encountered before and have to look up).

Jezza's glasses can sit straight sometimes. I get the impression that, ear heights aside, appearance doesn't much matter to him but it's something he has to do for the camera so sometimes he makes an effort and sometimes he forgets.

Only five more campaigning days to go, including today - thank goodness.

Kettle's on. Smile

Limer · 07/12/2019 08:21

Morning everyone, large coffee please (can we rustle up a cappuccino?)

I am obviously much older than some of you other regulars, that Milky Way advert was on when my children were young Shock

Nobody else in the pub last night had seen the debate of course, they were far too busy having fun on their Friday evening! Everyone's sick of the campaigning now, they made up their minds who to vote for weeks/months ago.

I'm going to put up the Christmas tree later. Dig out the Christmas CDs and crack open the ginger wine. Wine
