Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

It’s been an eye opener for me, that’s for sure.

HateIsNotGood · 28/11/2019 05:57

Morning All - apparently I think I am up early working, but I appear to be here instead. I'm making coffee if anyone else wants one.

I went and read the other thread - well done to Epic and co for calling out on the Goebs parallel, some things really need saying, even RTB eventually called it in "bad taste" before conveniently going to bed.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 28/11/2019 07:17

What thread are you all talking about?

Hollycatberry · 28/11/2019 07:20

Well done Epic and Lily for showing them their arses. But in line with approved ministry of education script, they ignore, deny or try and gently explain it. Their true colours have been shown, god knows what they post elsewhere. Imagine we see here is tip of the iceberg

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 07:22

@Hollycatberry , tbe Goebbels nonsense is uniquely bad. You don't see shit like that on the thread normally. Plenty of stuff you'd disagree with I expect but not shit like that.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 07:25

@dirtyrottenscoundrel the Westminsterenders thread. I flit between the two and often get shouted at on both. Slightly less on here at the moment because I currently keep my opinions to myself on here and just enjoy the free snacks. Grin

Hollycatberry · 28/11/2019 07:26

I agree bellini I’ve not seen posts like that before and it’s disappointing to see. Discussion can be held without needing references to Nazis. That poll being released last night, and causing a few waves, isn’t an excuse for it either. I get emotions are running high but some ppl need to log off for a bit if they can’t post sensibly.

MeganBacon · 28/11/2019 07:32

Morning all Brew. Just caught up on the other thread, you are right to call out that nonsense. The stupidity of it against the background of anti-semitism in the Labour Party they are supporting over there is mind-boggling so they need to be reminded that there are people listening to their public chat. Generally though I expect common sense will prevail- let’s wait and see.
Also just caught up on Dom’s very carefully worded bat-missive reminding us all that anything can happen in two weeks and we can influence people around us positively.
Have a great day y’all.

Saucery · 28/11/2019 07:46

It’s all getting rather heated and nasty now, which is a shame. I’m sure those threads didn’t have that tone in the early days and I valued the contributions on there even if they didn’t chime politically with my own Sad

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 28/11/2019 07:49

Thanks bellinisurge - I don’t read that thread anymore, I used to in the beginning but not anymore, just not interested enough in what they’re saying.

The extreme left & extreme right attract very similar people anyway, best to avoid both.

DustyDiamond · 28/11/2019 08:04

The stupidity of it against the background of anti-semitism in the Labour Party they are supporting over there is mind-boggling so they need to be reminded that there are people listening to their public chat.

That's the crux of it really

To suggest the way to increase Labour's chances in the current context is by 'being more Goebbels' is crass & naive(?) at best.

There are contemporary examples she could have cited without the genocidal, antisemitic associations.

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 08:14

Morning all! Normal service is restored after a slight diversion last night. Sunlight shines in the Brexit Arms; no dark corners in here.

Kettle's on. There's a full tray of ☕️ and another one of bacon rolls, so please help yourselves.

I'm off out to the suppliers as we seem to be running low on gin and that would never do.

I'm thinking we may get extra attention today and possibly new visitors because of last night's intervention. In the spirit of bonhomie, please offer them a drink. No peanuts available, sadly, as the Landlady is nut-intolerant but there are still plenty of Fruit Loops available at the far end of the bar.

The extreme left & extreme right attract very similar people anyway, best to avoid both.

Precisely so, DirtyRottenScoundrel. My old Economics teacher, the one who escaped Occupied Holland, carefully laid out a side-by-side comparison in the behaviour and actions of right-wing totalitarians and left-wing totalitarians and invited us to spot the difference. There wasn't one. He urged us to abhor extremism of any kind. I've never forgotten what he taught us.

Dusty, it's the casual acceptance that was such an eye-opener. I am heartbroken that there are Jewish people in this country who feel they have to keep their bags packed just in case. Now I understand a little more why they do.

Bellini, you were fully justified in what you said on the other thread and I noticed your post was minimised too. There was no big outcry last night. In fact, there were several puerile attempts at support. I was disgusted with them then and I'm still disgusted now....so time for me to get out in the fresh air, breathe deeply, and be thankful that for the moment, we still live in a country where we can call people out for such contemptible behaviour.

Rant over! As you were...

And exactly what Dusty has posted - the wtf levels of lack of self-awareness and current context are pretty astounding.

I read the other thread from time to time because I tend, as I do in most things, to try and discover how those that think differently to me achieve their opinions. They also generally amuse me when I cross-ref between threads when they claim to have 'shut other threads down' - recently the AIBU 'Tory' threads were apparently full of "racism". I hardly ever post on there anymore. Tho last night I ventured onto the AIBU 'Changed Vote' thread challenging Labour and the NHS dossier.

Anyway, it's a new day today, let's see how Labour continue their downward spiral today. It is sad - I had originally seen Corbs as Labour leader as a positive thing - not so now.

Maybe when they have Jess Phillips as Leader I might change my view.

AMRAFP · 28/11/2019 08:28

I lurk on both threads...
Your faux outrage last night cut no ice with me 😂

AMRAFP · 28/11/2019 08:31

Oh and cut the "my vote might be up for grabs in the future" shit
You don't get the moral high ground if you vote for BJ - you're going to have to own the consequences I'm afraid.

Saucery · 28/11/2019 08:35

A change of Labour top rank would be ideal, but I fear Momentum/Militant are so embedded it will be difficult to rise from the ashes. Not that it’s going to be easy for the Tories to get back to their core values if they get rid of the 🤡s.

HateIsNotGood · 28/11/2019 08:36

Well it wouldn't with you AMRAF now would it. Are you staying for a drink and a natter - what can I get you?

HateIsNotGood · 28/11/2019 08:37

Where are you placing your X AMRAF, do you know yet?

Saucery · 28/11/2019 08:44

Just looking at my postal ballot paper. The female candidate has not given her address. What a state this country’s democracy is in if some candidates feel unable to state where they live (I assume it’s in fear of reprisals, as that’s the only reason that would be acceptable).

DustyDiamond · 28/11/2019 08:46

Oh and cut the "my vote might be up for grabs in the future" shit

I've used that phrase consistently!

It's true 🤷🏻‍♀️

Believe it, don't believe it, whatevs

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 28/11/2019 08:57

Ahhh... THAT lurker. Hmmm.🧐

“Your faux outrage last night cut no ice with me”

We haven’t heard from you for a while. Your timing is always very specific. Of all the times you decide to pop up again, it’s to defend the goebbels comment and poke fun at us for being outraged and rightly calling it out? Not sure that shows US in the bad light you are attempting to shine frankly.

If that’s what your side are selling, you can keep it.

AutumnRose1 · 28/11/2019 09:00

I can’t eat this early
Can my bacon roll be kept warm please? Not a euphemism Wink

I have voted Labour and Conservative in the past.

I don’t think I’ve seen this level division in the past but that might be because of how social media puts it all out there.

Bearbehind · 28/11/2019 09:02

The other thread has the ability to rewrite history despite what was actually said!

No one pulled the poster up on that comment, in fact someone actively supported it, then RTB had a strop (not sure if it was about the person making the comment, the person supporting it or the intruders on the thread)

I’ve said before it’s become toxic, the latest polls appears to have made things worse

Walkingdeadfangirl · 28/11/2019 09:13

Morning all, is there a veggie option for a cooked breakfast?

Just been watching Barry Gardiner on Sky news, apparently its all Boris' fault that Corbyn's Labour has become antisemitic. Confused

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 28/11/2019 09:15

Agreed Bear, the lack of Outrage and then reposting the post, having rinsed it through the Speakwrite, as if to make it more acceptable, I find deeply disturbing. I’ve always known we (the two threads) deeply disagree on many issues and in principle that’s ok, but the glibness of that whole comment and subsequent attempts to quash any concerns has really exposed an uncomfortable gaping sore there, a side to some of them that actually chills me a little. God, I hope that poll is right, if this is the kind of shit that labour are bringing to the table, I am
even more worried than before.
