Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

We are temporarily under new management but worry not, the ship is still steady as we sail on to 12 December. A quick recap of the events of the last week or two:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔😂🤣😂🔥💨⛈🌥🌦🌤☀️

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

All fun and games then (I stepped away from the fingers in their ears brigade a while ago but I am glad you all called them - I used to but gave up for my own sanity). That's why DD2 turns my internet off an hour before my bedtime - saves me being grumpy in the morning after a bad nights sleep ruminating - she's not a morning person so 2 of us would be beyond the pale. She and DD3 are still going to have to do their own hoovering though cos their room is such a tip.Brew

Highly recommend Peston this morning.

Always used to rate him above Neil for economic analysis and he's proving it just now.

Pointing out

  1. the impact of Labour's dividend tax proposals on low earning small businesses (plumbers, coffee shops, hairdressers etc etc etc)
  2. the lack of focus on families struggling with in-work poverty in the Labour manifesto
  3. the problems in making big payouts to WASPI women like Diane Abbott and Theresa May rather than focusing it on those whom the benefit system should be protecting.

His twitter feed has lots of links and analysis.

Also very hard to argue he is anything other than Left of Centre.

“ That's why DD2 turns my internet off an hour before my bedtime”

Brilliant! Could I borrow her please?

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 12:18

@GreenishMe , it was made after 10 pm. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't much traffic on the thread at that time. It should have been jumped on immediately but I don't think you can infer that all Westminsterenders are Nazis or indulgent of Nazi imagery from that.
Not all of them are Corbynistas either.
I'll just leave that additional observation there.

derxa · 28/11/2019 12:23

.

GreenishMe · 28/11/2019 12:39

Bellini, I'm not inferring that at all.....I know that isn't the case.

My observation was the complete willingness to ignore that comment (which probably stunned them as much as us) because it was made by 'one of their own' - which certainly wouldn't have been the case if it had been made on an alternative thread. Also, I'm a little confused as to why you keep painting a slightly less than honest picture of the actual event.

I didn't want a long drawn out debate about it, I was simply trying to balance out what really took place alongside your version of it....that's all.

Perhaps we could now both just leave our observations?

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 12:52

"Less than honest"?Hmm you mean I am lying?
Not surprised you want to leave it there. That's a shitty thing to say.

GreenishMe · 28/11/2019 12:59

Really??

I cba anymore with this convo. If people are interested enough, they can see for themselves which account is more accurate.

Enjoy your indignance Bellini....not quite such a long delay today.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 13:02

Weirdly, I'm awake now. But I wasn't at 10.20 pm when the offending post went up.
Or maybe I'm lying about that @GreenishMe

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 13:05

Afternoon, all.

Back from the suppliers with, well, fresh supplies and a fresh mind. My apologies to Walking and any other non-meat eaters for failing to cater for their dietary needs Blush. Put it down to my temporary madness. The breakfast welcome tray now includes not just the customary tea, coffee and bacon rolls but also fried egg barms and sautéed mixed mushrooms on lightly grilled sourdough with a soupçon of garlic and thyme.

By 'eck, chuck! I've been modelling myself on Bet Lynch in her glory days (but with a Liverpudlian accent and minus the leopardskin and the chandelier earrings) and now we've gone all flaming posh bistro. Still, you can't do enough for good customers, can you?

I reported that post and got a mass email this morning from MN Towers so clearly it was inundated with complaints. That restored my faith in human nature. Please can we just leave it there now? We have a genial atmosphere here in the Arms and right now, in the most volatile election I can remember, we all need a little haven of sanity where we can freely exchange views (conflicting and otherwise) without the bile we see elsewhere.

I picked up The Times while I was out, just to cheer myself up with that poll map, and it has scads of pages where it drills down into the data and compares/contrasts with what their journalism team are hearing on the ground so will offer up any interesting snippets once I've had time to digest.

Finally, back in my chair after several days of flogging east and west across the country. Please, whoever wins the election, can we do something about the blasted road transport network. We lament productivity statistics, and wonder why and how they're so weak. I can tell you: it's because from 5.30 am onwards half the working population from East Sussex to Somerset is stuck in a traffic jam caused by roadworks where no one is on site.

Any of the tea and bacon rolls left over from breakfast?

Huge thanks to Lily for looking after the pub when I absconded and keeping the place humming along. Flowers for the middle of the bar.

soniamumsnet · 28/11/2019 13:16

Just dropping by to ask people to avoid personal attacks in this thread. We've had a few reports. Hopefully things will get back on track now.
Peace and love.

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 13:16

Welcome back, Xing, and a big thank you for leaving the place sparkling and fully stocked. Tea and fresh bacon roll here for you - after flogging yourself through the meandering road networks, you need the sustenance!

OP posts:
SingingLily · 28/11/2019 13:24

I quite agree, @soniamumsnet and take this opportunity to remind all customers of the pub rule:

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Now, back to kitchen duties. Honesty box is under the till. Help yourself to top-ups.

Goebells? I've missed all this! I was out all last night and have been working this morning.

Some excellent news, one of my WASPI friends yesterday cast her postal vote for the Conservatives. She's a Remainer, but she doesn't believe that Labour could fulfil their promises to give so much away to so many, without there being huge negative repercussions throughout the economy.

I see from the news that Labour are changing their strategy to focus on Leave areas. Too little, too late I think!

Saucery · 28/11/2019 14:05

I had a letter from Boris this morning. How nice of him Grin
At least he has limited himself to one sheet of A4 rather than the avalanche of dead trees Jo and her LibDems are shoving through my letterbox, some of it not so cunningly disguised as a local newsletter.

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 14:12

Every little helps, Limer, and I'm disappearing under a mountain of LibDem junk mail too, Saucery. Are you in the West Country as well? Somewhere in the Amazonian rainforest, at least one tree has died in vain - at least as far as this household is concerned.

Here's today's newspaper art, just to cheer everyone up.

Nowhere near you, Singing , they must be spamming the entire length and breadth of the country Shock.

bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 14:20

I've had not a single piece of election literature through my door. Apart from my actual polling card.

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 14:21

That won't so much for their green credentials, will it? Still, on the plus side, the next door neighbours' black Lab is expecting a litter on Christmas Day and they've asked us to stockpile papers for them. It's heartwarming to think the LD spam will be put to good use after all.

AutumnRose1 · 28/11/2019 14:22

I’m in London and get lots of Lib Dem leaflets.

I retract my statement about sharing my vodka as I’ve decided to watch Question Time tonight for the first time in years. No, you can’t count on me to keep my word Grin

Limer · 28/11/2019 14:24

I had a Labour leaflet through the door from the current MP, not a mention of Brexit Grin That's a mistake Grin

Saucery I'm very encouraged by my WASPI friend, there are loads exactly like her throughout the country. And she's got tons of family/friends that she's telling!

howabout thanks for the Peston recommendation, I don't like the sound of his voice, but reading his written words is much better!

SingingLily · 28/11/2019 14:27

We're stocked up now on Tanqueray gin and Fever Tree tonic behind the bar now, Autumn, in case you run short. Told you we'd gone all flaming posh bistro.

Bellini, I'm still mystified about our Labour candidate. No leaflet, no online presence. How do I know she's even real?

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 28/11/2019 14:34

Our Labour candidate (sitting MP) is very active on Facebook- where us old guts can see him - and has apparently been on the estate near us. But not our street. HmmGrin. You would think it was a one party state for all the activity of any other party in our area. Tumbleweed.
And we are in a Labour Leave area which, according to the YouGov poll thing is not as safe a Labour seat as it used to be.

LouiseCollins28 · 28/11/2019 14:40

Labour message in Leave seats will be interesting. Exhibit A is this pack of nonsense from one E. Miliband. Oh dear Ed, Oh dear

Is there a link to where you saw/read Peston @howabout? My Labour sister in law is a huge fan, maybe it’ll help to swing her.
