The Brexit Party aren't doing one.

The Labour Party apparently can't afford theirs.

The Conservatives will just lie anyway.

And the LDs got upstaged by Prince Andrew's resignation from royal duties for being a fuckwit.

3 weeks to go...

@alsohuman

Spelling and grammatical mistakes irritate almost every well educated person I know.

There is so much elitism in this comment..... I am actually really well educated - but as a dyslexic/dyspraxia spelling and grammar are difficult. Don't judge a book by its cover.......
I am far more interested in the substance of what people say rather than how it is delivered.... and that includes accent.

DGRossetti · 22/11/2019 18:30

Apropos of nothing, I am now in a very grumpy mood having just discovered that HIGNFY is delayed by 30 minutes for more pisspoor BBC politics coverage. Which could just as easily be put on BBC3 at anytime really, for the quality of it.

I was just about containing it after last weeks schedule disruption removed 3 of the only programmes we would have watched over the weekend ...

Oh well, at least I have "Digging For Britain" saved for tomorrow afternoon. (I like to think of Prof Alice Roberts as local, since she's based at Birmingham university. DW is fully aware Grin)

MockersFactCheckMN · 22/11/2019 18:32

Can't have upward mobility without a little bit of downward mobility.

We could start at the top and get Andy Windsor a job as a greeter at B&Q.

dreichwinter · 22/11/2019 18:33

@mrslaughan as a fellow dyslexic with an accent I couldn't agree more!

BigChocFrenzy · 22/11/2019 18:34

"Buccaneers Brexit" may be the stupidest phrase that Tory Brexiters have used
(there is a lot of competition for that title ! )

Peter Foster@pmdfoster

Again, this is not to attribute blame, but really to despair.

Johnson's route to Number 10 was to subscribe to a "buccaneers'" Brexit that has no foundation.

We'll run to stand still,
all the trade Anglos+BRIICS = 0.2%-0.4% GDP uplift over a decade v -5% GDP for hard FTA

Do they draw lots for position ?

Tom Newton Dunn@tnewtondunn

I hear Jeremy Corbyn is up first for his @bbcquestiontime grilling tonight,
followed by Nicola Sturgeon, then Jo Swinson and finally Boris Johnson

Somerville, shame you apologised. The Make a Wish woman isn’t doing it for you or your child, she’s doing it to feel good about herself. Sounds really frustrating to have money sloshing about that could do good and see it missing the target because they haven’t asked people in your position what you need.Grr.

Peregrina · 22/11/2019 18:41

Now if there were crowds waiting for Boris Johnson to appear - well they would be better off going home or going to the pub, because he doesn't bother to do public appearances.

thecatfromjapan · 22/11/2019 18:42

I'm getting a lot of Tory messaging on my Twitter feed.

It's aimed solidly at Generation Viagra.

It's all about re-accessing a lost virility.

'Make Britain Great Again', 'Unleash the UK's Potential'.

Honestly. So much of Brexit is about the mid-placed assuaging of the trauma of ageing.

They'd be better paying for therapy, rather than inflicting Brexit on the young.

☹️

I'm an older person myself. Ageing isn't fun. But it happens. And you do gain wisdom. And often have built love-filled life around you.

Why destroy the opportunities of others, and the future, just because you no longer shine with the pulchritude, promise and power of youth?

Dusty01 · 22/11/2019 18:43

I don’t pay much tax now but if I earned enough to pay more I wouldn’t voluntarily do that under this government because they wouldn’t use it for schools or the NHS would they? A big reason that I hate the Tories is that they choose to spend their money on shit. Their priorities are all wrong.

BigChocFrenzy · 22/11/2019 18:47

Dmitry Grozoubinski@DmitryOpines

Johnson Statement: "They said I couldn't get the WA reopened and I did."

No one anticipated your conceding a border between one part of your country and the other parts, applying the tariffs, and checking against the regulations of a bloc you won't belong to.

You got us.

thecatfromjapan · 22/11/2019 18:47

None of that is off-topic, Somerville.

I'm so happy your daughter's prognosis is good - and so utterly sad to hear how hard things are. Especially the unnecessarily hard things.

I have friends working in healthcare in a range of settings - and the story is the same everywhere.

It's awful.

ArseDarkly · 22/11/2019 18:49

Do they draw lots for position ?

I wonder which is best? Being first means less nerves waiting around and perhaps the audience are fresher? But, the other candidates can pick holes in what you've said and you can't come back at them.

Jux · 22/11/2019 18:56

I have a faulty heart valve (and MS, and a few other, lesser things). My heart used to be checked every 6 months, with a view to giving me open heart surgery. They haven't seen me for nearly 2 years, no explanation forthcoming, though I've asked. Every morning, somewhere in the back of my mind is the thought "is today the day I drop dead like my brother did?", and every pain in my chest makes me wonder if it's too late now.....

Frankly, today I wanted to die. The thought that we could have yet another 5 years of Tory Robbery, well yes, I would prefer my heart to give up now quickly. I cannot bear the thought that, what with my heart and the MS, I am facing a long slow decline with the NHS declining along with me. I'm tired of trying to pretend I'm alright, I'm tired of pretending that I don't need the social care that I had 10 years ago but which was removed 5 years ago. I'm tired of pretending I have a future in this society, I don't.

mrslaughan · 22/11/2019 18:57

You are right Dusty.

I try to do as much as possible directly, by supporting local food bank and charities.

I still believe and have for some time thought the tories plan is to drive the NHS to collapse.
But it's strange - in our trust the hospitals are literally crumbling, there aren't enough beds , waiting times are huge. In the trust my sister lives in - new hospital, she never seems to struggle to get a gp's appointment. You could cynically say it's because she is in a Tory stronghold- but round here is too......

mrslaughan · 22/11/2019 18:59

@jux 💐

Violetparis · 22/11/2019 19:02

Great to see the footage of the crowds supporting Corbyn, not the usual media narrative from the North. It's the hope that kills you though Sad Have seen footage of them shouting 'Tory, Liar!'. Hope the BBC picked that up too.

ListeningQuietly · 22/11/2019 19:02

(((( Jux )))))
Hang on in there and feel free to rant on here
because one of the cool things on these threads is the diversity of locations, finances, health and education
linked by the impact of austerity ....

I was talking to a friend today who is awaiting a life changing operation he currently only has one hip joint after having to have an implant removed It has been delayed several times due staff shortages and the consultants pension dispute

both avoidable side effects of the ideology of austerity and the impact of brexit emigration

BigChocFrenzy · 22/11/2019 19:04

Jux I'm so sorry you aren't receiving the care you used to get 💐

Shocking to read what some Westministenders are going through, NHS care and also disability benefits Sad

Callous bastards repeatedly putting tax cuts for the better off voters before essentials for the vulnerable

MockersFactCheckMN · 22/11/2019 19:08

In Other News

British ISIS orphans have finally made it home to their familes.

It seems there was a delay because the home secretary didn't want them to return.

(Female canines have an injunction preventing anyone comparing them to Priti Patel.)

“I can’t understand everything that’s going on in your mind,” Corbyn says to questioner who claims he’s “terrified of socialism.” #bbcqt

thecatfromjapan · 22/11/2019 19:10

Oh, Jux, 💐💐.

You're the reason I get my ass out and canvass, deliver envelopes, stuff said envelopes, in the cold.

I'll be doing it tomorrow, and thinking of you.

I can't take another 5 years of this. You can't. Many more of us can't.

And you (and Somerville) remind me that this election is about caring, and helping, and wanting so much more for people who deserve so much better than this.

All love - and solidarity - to you, my Dear. ❤️💐❤️

Hoooo · 22/11/2019 19:12

Love and light to you jux.

Going to be awol for a spell...family issues...take care all xx

Dusty01 · 22/11/2019 19:19

Interesting. Our hospital is literally crumbling too. It’s one BJ visited recently but of course the real thing was missed/went unreported.

A friend’s mum died there last week on a bed amongst more than 100 others lined up on beds in corridors. She had cancer. Apparently this was unprecedented (my friend’s words) Does that mean it’s never happened before? Even so it’s deeply shocking. Words can’t describe the sorrow and shame her family feel that this was how her life ended.
