I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

In Cloud-Cuckoo-Corbyn-Land, every cuckoo-filled cloud has a silver lining - Danny Dyer, Stormzy & Lily Allen will all move abroad Grin

howabout · 19/11/2019 18:46

Maximum salary for bosses. Self-employed luvvies will be OK. Not sure where Graham "I pay my taxes and so should you" Norton will be if the BBC is forced to cap salaries at £350k though. Linniker and co won't have to fret about the tax cos they won't be earning it in the first place.

Was only saying the other day it seems odd to me that a tax payer funded BBC is setting the salaries for the UK entertainment and sporting industry. Actors, musicians and footballers weren't always paid millions.

Would soon shut them all up if they were paid the same as the rest of us too. Find I am wholly on board with JMD on this.

More seriously the disparity between worker wages and bosses has increased exponentially over the last 20 years and I don't think businesses have become more productive or responsive to their customers as a result.

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 18:50

Apparently a 100% tax on incomes over £350k.

They are complete fuck wits aren’t they?

Which part of ‘there won’t be any tax revenue on income over £350k because no one will officially earn it, so there’ll be less in the pot to go round’ do they not understand?

howabout · 19/11/2019 18:56

Bear the workers will all be earning a heap ton more and therefore paying more tax though or the company will be more profitable and pay more CT. In the case of the public sector fewer council fat cats leaves more money to employ care workers.

You are assuming all those on £350k "earn" it. Very far from the case ime.

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 19:02

No, I’m assuming people will either find ways around it or just won’t bother earning it.

Companies will relocate, if they haven’t already been expelled from the LSE 🤔, to avoid this.

No one is going to accept 100% of their salary being taken from them in tax above a certain point, nor should they.

howabout · 19/11/2019 19:16

The UK tax system already causes this. Graduate couple can avoid a heap of tax / childcare costs / graduate tax if they both work part-time. Above £12k the tax rate in UC is almost 100%.
Part of the UK productivity puzzle is that workers on minimum wage tend to be minimally productive.

There is a balance and the current boss premium is far from the historic norm. If people want these sorts of income disparities with those who work for them then frankly I would rather they were in Singapore or Saudi than cluttering up the London economy and turning it into a renty serf society.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/11/2019 19:17

Is their any other country in the world that bans owners from earning more money?

Wouldn't all the decent managers just go work abroad leaving crappy nationalised companies run by the dregs of the pot.

SingingLily · 19/11/2019 19:20

or just won’t bother earning it.

What happens when NHS surgeons reach their maximum pensions cap and get hammered for tax if they continue over a certain amount? They go part-time or retire and then waiting lists for operations get longer.

A typical Gideon cock-up but it's the same principle. High earners will make rational decisions about how to avoid reaching the 100% tax bracket.

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 19:37

I would rather they were in Singapore or Saudi than cluttering up the London economy and turning it into a renty serf society.

I dare say that if this plan went ahead that you’d get your wish

But that won’t benefit this country ultimately

SingingLily · 19/11/2019 19:45

Don't the top 1% of earners pay 28% of the tax take? That's a lot of revenue to lose.

They've got the contacts, mobility and spare cash to just up sticks and move abroad, taking their tax contributions with them.

That's when the rest of us will have to stump up to make good the loss.

Madness.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/11/2019 19:50

So if Corbyn is planning on taking 10% of every companies shares, who do they actually take them off. Isn't this going to cripple pension investments. So Union workers get free shares at the expense of people who are to old to work anymore.

What will that do to society? I suppose labour doesn't mind killing off people who tend to vote Conservative.

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 19:54

So far Labours plans seem to be aimed at pleasing those who don’t have the ability to see the bigger picture and understand how economies actually work and the fact they don’t function in a way that means everyone can be equal.

XingMing · 19/11/2019 19:54

There was something in The Times today (behind the paywall obv) suggesting that the NHS would consider paying the tax so that consultants and surgeons were not deterred from taking extra (needed) shifts that they would actually have to pay to work under the current rules.

Four pints for me please, I'm taking a drink every time Comrade Corbyn says, "the people".

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/11/2019 20:15

Corbyn doesn't even know what camera to look at. Does he have a dodgy right eye?

MeganBacon · 19/11/2019 20:16

Drives me nuts how JC can't keep his glasses on straight.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 19/11/2019 20:17

I was so ready to rumble, but I missed the start! Got it on pause though!

It’s a very odd, stinted format isn’t it? Confused

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 20:19

Corbyns wonky glasses make him look like Jim Royal!

BelleHathor · 19/11/2019 20:22

Present! Evening comrades 🚩🌹🚩🌹🚩, there has been speculation about Corbyns health for months from political "sources".
FRESNEL PRISM LENS POINTS TO ‘CORBYN HAVING A STROKE’

Limer · 19/11/2019 20:25

The live audience are annoying with all the clapping!

JC keeps straightening his glasses, but they're still crooked. Is he squinting because he can't see?

Bearbehind · 19/11/2019 20:28

This country is fucked isn’t it........

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/11/2019 20:28

Those glasses are just getting worse, they must fall off at some point.

BelleHathor · 19/11/2019 20:29

This format is crap 😡
