I'm not promising to be the resident landlady, and I can't even hope to moderate the discussion or offer up great memes etc because I don't know how, but here's opening the next iteration....

First drink is on the house.

I do wish posters wouldn't assume that anyone who pops in to criticise the Tories/Conservatives and Unionists (hollow laugh) is by definition a Jeremy/Labour fan. It's really not that hard to understand.

This is exactly why I’ve given up with the WA threads.

Everyone on there hates the Tories and moans incessantly about them but, although most are probably socialist by nature, most accept JC is shite.

What is the point in moaning about the Tories when the alternative isn’t any better?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:19

“So while you sit here and mock the Labour manifesto, remember what you're all voting for...”

Followed by this.

“I do wish posters wouldn't assume that anyone who pops in to criticise the Tories/Conservatives and Unionists (hollow laugh) is by definition a Jeremy/Labour fan. It's really not that hard to understand.”

Yep Clear as mud.

Anyway, I WISH that some posters would understand that Labour is the only credible opposition. Hence why we mostly discuss their Barmy policies in contrast to the Tories and don’t touch that much on the others.

Oh and I also WISH, that posters wouldn’t try to police our discussion constantly, whilst there are eleventy billion other threads that confirm their own position.

Bearbehind · 22/11/2019 10:21

Well said epic

SingingLily · 22/11/2019 10:25

I'm still waiting for someone to express a sanguine view about people like Priti Patel having another five years to allegedly apply the thumbscrews to the poor. I am still waiting for someone to admire the alleged dishonesty of the Tories pretending to be a fact-checking organisation etc... Congratulations to all of you."

There. Fixed that for you, TwoFingers.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:31

I don’t think anyone here has lauded the Tories as the Panacea of all things political.

Merely that they have at least half a grasp on what it takes to run a country. And let’s be honest, this is largely a pro brexit thread, so no great surprise to ANYONE, that the overwhelming position here is to vote for the Tories right now. Although I think that upsets some, as we are all expected to be frothing BXP/Ukip/Tommy Robinson lovers. The fact that we tend to be normal, middle of the road, moderates and centrists, does not fit at all with the usual narrative, it’s something that really sticks in the craw for some.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:36

Just an addendum to my last post. Overwhelming position of ‘leavers’ voting Tory here I mean, I know that we have some remainers in here too, with difficult choices to make. Smile

time4chocolate · 22/11/2019 10:42

time4 Labour is extremely unlikely to get in, so don't worry your head about that. However, I love that you have a crystal ball that tells you what life will be like post-imaginary-Labour government, but are willing to place your faith in the various unknowns that Brexit will bring, particularly given the charlatans who are promising it to you

I’ll take Brexit over Labour (with this particular manifesto) any day as would, I imagine a lot of businesses.

I’m more than happy to contribute as we all need to but when you have a manifesto that is predominantly funded by taxing the millionaires/billionaires you have a huge problem when they say they don’t want to play that particular game anymore - to see that could be problematic is not so much rocket science or crystal ball gazing, more common sense.

I am very much a floating voter (until recently) who is sitting patiently waiting for a middle ground party to appear but I think I could be waiting a long time.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:43

“time4 Labour is extremely unlikely to get in, so don't worry your head about that.”

Jeez, only just spotted this patronising comment. Lovely. Hmm

twofingerstoEverything · 22/11/2019 10:46

No-one is 'policing' your discussion, epic. But why do you suppose there's an absence of dissenting views on here? Could it be because you're (collectively) 'policing' this thread, or at least creating a hostile environment for anyone who doesn't share your views? I read across a range of threads on MN but don't devote my life to it, unlike some. I enjoy the Westminsterenders thread, but it moves too fast for me, so miss huge chunks of it, whereas this is a pretty slow-moving Bexit thread - probably because of the lack of tolerance of other views, which deters people from posting - so manage to keep up with it and make the occasional contribution. I don't really care if it's welcomed or not, or if epic gets her silly glitterball out. I think that's a pretty peurile response actually. Anyone can post on any thread on MN, but I think there's no harm in pointing out that the Tories are responsible for huge inequalities in this country and are unwilling to take responsibility for it - hence the ref to PPatel. IMO they have been downright cruel to the poor and disabled and I believe a vote for them is certainly a vote for more of the same. Personally, I would never be comfortable giving - or even temporarily lending - my vote to a party capable of such actions.

singing I don't recall any poster on this thread making any views known about Priti Patel or the fact check thing so how do you come to that conclusion? Your support of Boris/Tories/lack of any critical discussion of anything the Conservatives do ever has led me to that conclusion, ie. this thread paints a picture of a group of people who support everything they stand for. Unfortunately, that includes, their lies, heartlessness, etc.

SingingLily · 22/11/2019 10:47

as we are all expected to be frothing BXP/Ukip/Tommy Robinson lovers

😂Epic

Tommy Robinson is great! I won't hear a word said against him. He'll come out at short notice, fix a leaking pipe and not charge the earth. Proper tradesman - 60-ish, lovely West Country accent, mad about Bristol Rovers. That's the one they mean, isn't it?

twofingerstoEverything · 22/11/2019 10:48

the alleged dishonesty of the Tories pretending to be a fact-checking organisation etc.

You think it was only alleged, ie. they didn't openly admit to doing this Hmm
Says it all.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:50

GrinGrinGrin

Ok, yes, that’s exactly how it is. HmmGrin

So which of the parties that won’t make a jot of difference will you be voting for then? If you are not voting Labour, why do you defend them so vigorously? I mean to be honest, I don’t really care, as who you vote for is your perogative, but seeing as you are so offended by our right to democratically vote for a party that suits our position, I feel it only fair that you lay your cards on the table.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:54

And speaking of hostile environments, coming from the same poster who told me..

“Fuck off then, you won’t be missed”

After me mentioning my mental health issues, is frankly not just Rich, it’s fucking Minted.

SingingLily · 22/11/2019 10:56

"Morning everyone.

Agree it's pretty dismal. In 2016, I felt genuinely sorry for Americans for having to choose between Trump the Tolerant and Honest Hilary. Many of them had to hold their noses to vote. Now the same choice awaits us. Corbyn and Corbynism never. Swinson and her particular brand of unLiberal nonDemocratism never. Boris will have to do for now.

After that, I'm hoping for massive realignment and some grown-ups to choose from."

My post on Monday morning.

"A typical Gideon cock-up but it's the same principle. High earners will make rational decisions about how to avoid reaching the 100% tax bracket."

My post on Tuesday evening.

"They are all unpalatable, Epic, but for different reasons and in differing degrees: a bit like the Trump-or-Hilary conundrum Americans faced in 2015."

My post yesterday lunchtime.

And you see that as Your support of Boris/Tories/lack of any critical discussion of anything the Conservatives do???

Dear, oh dear, TwoFingers.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 22/11/2019 10:56

So do pardon me if I have a low tolerance for a lovely poster like that.

Bearbehind · 22/11/2019 10:58

Could it be because you're (collectively) 'policing' this thread, or at least creating a hostile environment for anyone who doesn't share your views?

That’s actually funny as well as ironic.

I’ve been hounded off the WA threads for having a ‘dissenting view’ yet I’m a Remainer so actually on their side

I’m more welcome here than there despite be being on the ‘other side’ here

The issue is, and you continue to demonstrate it, that no matter how bad you state the Tories are, Labour aren’t offering a viable alternative to many.

SingingLily · 22/11/2019 10:59

No pardon needed from anyone, Epic. I didn't know about TwoFingers' frankly appalling comment to you or I would have commented on that too.

DustyDiamond · 22/11/2019 11:02

Bearbehind · 22/11/2019 11:02

The posters on this thread are far more pragmatic about what is and isn’t possible in this GE.

It’s utterly pointless being in a bubble where you half hope JC will be your saviour despite thinking he’s a twat.

twofingerstoEverything · 22/11/2019 11:22

I didn't know about TwoFingers' frankly appalling comment to you or I would have commented on that too.

Don't worry. Epic is just scraping a barrel here. Did s/he mention I'd apologised, despite him/her not being able to evidence what I'd said beyond a post deletion? ? Here's the thread and here's my reply to epic in full at 10.42 on 25th Oct (epic was going under a different, mustard-related, name at that time):

Quote:
For anyone who can't read that - I couldn't see it on my phone:
Mustard/epic:
Pops in for a swift half after a short MH break, observes the arms has been colonised once again by the usual frothing, goading, insulting remainers.

Leaves. (Not a pun).

Followed by my post deletion, so don't really know what I said there. There's a fair bit of goady fuckery in the "colonised by frothing, goading, insulting remainers..." bit, but whatever my deleted post said, I sincerely apologise!

I see posters were being deleted left right and centre on that thread, including your very good self.

Unquote

twofingerstoEverything · 22/11/2019 11:27

Bear
It’s utterly pointless being in a bubble where you half hope JC will be your saviour despite thinking he’s a twat.
I don't think JC will be my saviour or anyone else's. I do think he's a twat. I think Johnson is an even bigger, and more dangerous twat, and despise Patel, Duncan-Smith, Rees-Mogg and the other heartless MPs who care nothing for the poor and are comfortable insulting Grenfell victims, etc. I simply don't understand their privileged, heartless mindset, or why anyone would think they have the interests of ordinary people at heart. I'm hoping that Johnson will not get a sufficient majority, although I expect he will, as I'm extremely worried about what will become of the NHS, the poor, the disabled etc. if they have five more years in power.

Bearbehind · 22/11/2019 11:32

I'm extremely worried about what will become of the NHS, the poor, the disabled etc. if they have five more years in power.

Worrying isn’t going to stop it happening - having a credible opposition might have done but it’s too late for that now, especially with Labour’s far left manifesto

XingMing · 22/11/2019 11:33

I see a lot more Vote Labour posters and placards in the expensive streets than on the social housing estates. Not without reason was the Socialist Workers Party dubbed the Collective Unconscious in the 1970s. Nowadays they are same cool, woke, prosecco-quaffers with high-earning professional spouses, who think disrupting commuter traffic with XReb is a jolly jape.

They fail to understand that capital is highly mobile and that it will fly south to more hospitable climates at the first sign of frost.

OP posts:
SingingLily · 22/11/2019 11:36

By all means criticise the policies of any or all parties on here, TwoFingers, but leave out the ad hominem digs and please stop assuming that you know anything about me, my views or my political philosophy and therefore my moral compass based upon your selective reading of my posts on a public forum.

Happy to engage with you on honest political discussion. No more, no less.

Deal?

DustyDiamond · 22/11/2019 12:01

despite him/her not being able to evidence what I'd said beyond a post deletion? ?

😂😂😂😂

Your post was bad enough to get deleted yet you're citing her inability to evidence your words as some sort of deflection?!

Sometimes posters are beyond parody 😂
