New thread.

General election 12th December 2019. Results out on Friday 13th. Unlucky day for some.

So this election is unusual in that it will focus primarily on Brexit and referendums with domestic issues tagged alongside, for some parties.

Britain elects @britainelects

One pollster told me they thought Labour has to stay below 30% and the Conservatives need to be consistently 8/9pts ahead if Boris Johnson has any hope of winning a majority.

The squeeze has begun.

ListeningQuietly · 04/11/2019 18:15

Farage on LBC
indeed, if he'd been a candidate they would have had to drop his show
but as the director of a company that runs a party he is fine Hmm

placemats · 04/11/2019 18:17

Seriously Flouncy? Smile

It's good to see sensible tactical voting in Northern Ireland. All differences aside to get the result for the majority who voted to Remain.

The rest of the UK ought to listen and watch.

Also I'm just going to leave this here.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt.

Clearly some people are above the law.

'Slam it in the microwave' What does this even mean?

Farage isn't on LBC

ArseDarkly · 04/11/2019 18:27

Looks uncannily like the back of a taxi interview with a fired candidate from The Apprentice who unwisely bought 1000 pumpkins on the 1st of November. Grin

SwedishEdith · 04/11/2019 18:30

The leaking of the Russian doc will have far more impact in a few weeks time. Too early atm.

Don't know why but very surprised at the Woodcock/Hardman romance.

Hasenstein · 04/11/2019 18:31

Farage isn't on LBC

Are you sure? I thought he'd had the early evening slot for ages. I only know this because I have it on in my car to listen to James O'Brien, then often forget to change over, so get into the car in the evening to hear the frogman's less than dulcet tones (before I can hit the right button to get him off).

Or has he dropped it for the election period?

prettybird · 04/11/2019 18:33

Dh says he though Ian Dale was taking over Faragit's slot from tomorrow.

ArseDarkly · 04/11/2019 18:34

Sorry Hasenstein, that's what I meant - he's not on at the moment. Usually he's on mon-thurs evening and sunday as well so it'll be a welcome break! God knows what all his regular callers are going to do without him Shock

To be fair I can't abide O'Brien either but for quite different reasons

ArseDarkly · 04/11/2019 18:37

Eddie Mair's doing an extra hour to cover

HesterThrale · 04/11/2019 18:40

So it seems that Cummings has gone...

Dominic Cummings passes election baton to softly spoken Australian Isaac Levido

On Thursday the prime minister’s chief adviser and mastermind of the 2016 Leave vote told a meeting of government aides that he would not be taking charge of the Tories’ general election campaign.

If that isn't a name for a Marvel super villain, I don't know what is ....

Ellie56 · 04/11/2019 18:56

What does BJ actually think?

"Most with ambitions for high office put the “I” into politician, but Mr Johnson’s use of the first person is notable, even for a columnist. He refers to himself every 112 words, which over 15 years is a lot."

So Bozo thinks about himself excessively. And this is news? Hmm

ArseDarkly · 04/11/2019 18:57

From 'The Australian' -

Levido is well known to Johnson, having been Crosby’s lieutenant on the 2015 and 2017 British elections and a failed attempt to win the London mayoralty for one of Johnson’s close Tory friends, Zac Goldsmith.

He sounds great

FadingStar · 04/11/2019 19:09

It's fantastic. Sinn Fein supporting the unionist Lady Hermon. Putting Remain voters and remaining in the EU first. Even though Brexit could fast forward reunification. If NI can do it, surely the others can.

Clavinova · 04/11/2019 19:13

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt.

Actually, as PM it's probably advisable not to wear a seat belt for security reasons - in case he has to duck down (not that BJ is very agile!) or be bundled out of the car quickly.

RedToothBrush · 04/11/2019 19:13

Paul Waugh@paulwaugh
Lindsay Hoyle has what appears to be a speech in his hand...does he know he's won?

Result imminent for third round

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 04/11/2019 19:13

Through to round 4 unless Bryant or Hoyle withdraw

RedToothBrush · 04/11/2019 19:14

Cummings is a civil servant who works for the government not the Tories.

Thus he wasn't ever going to take on the election role. At least not formally...

TheABC · 04/11/2019 19:30

@SwedishEdith, agreed. We have not heard the last of the Russian document.

Between that and Johnson's new election advisor, I feel like I'm an onlooker in the next Bond movie.
