General Election Weather Forecast

This is a General Election special forecast thread Confused

Disclaimer: Obviously at this point in time I have no clue what the weather will be like for the GE! It's way too early. Also, I'm an amateur meteorologist with a busy life and I am definitely wrong sometimes. Grin

However, I'll try and keep the thread updated with any notable weather and any indications as to what the weather may be like on GE day.

So generally benign weather for a few days, apart from in the SW where leaflet deliveries will be soggy!

Saturday and especially Sunday sees some very wet and windy weather with gales. Especially on Sunday. Challenging conditions.

Then I'm afraid the weather is possibly going to get really really bad in central southern areas on Monday, if current charts pan out. GFS shows extreme rainfall. Fortunately it's five days away. Let's hope it moderates!!

Thereafter, starting to settle down hopefully for the first half of November, chilly though, before we possibly return to some very wet and windy weather into December.

I've got a crazy busy couple of days coming up after today, so next detailed update Saturday :)

If you have a neighbour who might struggle to get to the polling station, offer them a lift. Also let people know about postal voting, although I do have concerns about them getting lost in the Christmas post. Proxy voting is an option also.

As a local party we used to offer lifts to older and disabled people, but other parties kicked up a fuss and said we were pressuring people (we absolutely were not), so it was stopped. It's a shame, as poor weather often means a low turnout.

Very valid points :)

We've got the potential royal mail strikes too.

So, colder conditions prevail this week, with the weather thankfully settling down after Saturday's deluge and gale fest ( in the south)

Damp in places this week, and the potential for a little snow over hilly parts of Wales and just possible the Cotswolds on Thursday/ friday.

Somewhat hilariously, the long term model CFS (confidence level I guess at

The Christmas santa snow forecaster has had a chance of 5% for snow in some areas predicted since last February. I think it is the default setting. I occasionally checked in mid summer as I left the tab open.

Good idea. I'll bet Piers Corbyn has given Jeremy his forecast! Grin

I think canvassing and leafleting will be the last thing on people's minds in parts of Yorkshire.

In the mean time, campaigners be aware, yellow warnings for heavy rain for Northern Ireland and parts of southern England.

The met office contingency planners forecast seems to have struggled with November's forecast. Although we are still under westerlies, we've ended up on the cold side of the jet stream with, so we are under a polar maritime regime (winds from the north west). So it is colder than perhaps anticipated and looks to remain so for the short/mid term.

Some hill snow in northern parts tonight and there is a wider possibility of hill snow Thursday/Friday.

Looking forward to election day (768 hours away) just for fun at present as of course it's bollocks at this stage. Milder, wet in the north.

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Weather's looking pretty stormy for many parts tomorrow. Any insights?

CrunchyCarrot · 10/12/2019 13:55

*I mean on Thursday!! (Wishful let's get it over with thinking on my part) Grin

The forecast for tomorrow isn't great - cold front coming in early so when polling booths open in the SW, it will already be raining. The whole country will experience a band of rain, for some this will start as snow over higher ground, especially in the north and Scotland. Beefy showers look likely throughout the day almost anywhere.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 12/12/2019 09:27

Cloudy, cold and some light rain here. The sun is trying to break through though.

Dontlickthetrolley · 12/12/2019 09:45

Wet, wet, wet here in pig with a blue rosette shire
